I have no respect for your brand of "competition" because I don't acknowledge the validity of Blackbox as a means of getting good games. Also, I'm kinda contemptuous of status concepts. Changing my behavior to fit your sensibilities would be an affront to my own self-respect. I'm gonna do what I do. Cope. |

I never asked respect for my brand of "competition". You are free to do whatever you want, I'm free to doubt about it and you free not to give a damn about what I doubt.
With, I'd say, valid reasons (starting game vs Emerging Star Goblins, just to make an example).
Without scientific demonstration (100% games in the Box) I will always doubt.
Box is not a mean to get good games? It's not perfect but, if you can't choose, it's harder to play game 1 vs Emerging Star Goblins (and a series of Stars too).
With GF, game 1 vs Goblins is assured, with Box, not assured.
It's very simple to understand that.
Long story short: you say that the Box is easy, but you don't play 100% of your games there.
You have your legitimate reasons (low traffic time zone, on a hurry to develop your team in time to join the FC), but if you can't or don't want to play in the Box it's not my fault.
I'm not interested in why you don't play in the Box.
You don't play in the Box, fair, and I can't accept games played outside of the Box as valid ones. |

Honestly what are we talking about here? It is a game. As long as I am forced to play with a freshly redrafted season 2 team against any team no matter the number of games played or the TV gap, why are we arguing about SPP farming in GF?
And Matt you admited in your prior post that you need to wait for 4 hours during "prime time" to get ONE season 2 blackbox game. And still you are willing to make the situation worse by further reducing the number of potential opponents?
What for? As lon as there is no 'fair' pairing in regards of games played or TV, SPP farming is a minor issue. IMO.
EDIT: And I respect that the rules for pairing are set as they are to allow the maximum of games. Even if it means that even towards the mid/end season one you can run into some very strange games in blackbox. |

For me a GF team is not a valid opponent, only Box teams are. For me it's better not to find a game at all than playing vs a team I should not even be paired with, because it played with a different mode to arrange games.
When I play vs certain coaches having a developed team, I wonder how they managed to build it to that level (their gameplay doesn't match the team building).
Then, I check their match history and I see lots of GF games.
This is why they managed to build their teams to that level, despite not having a great win rate, they picked worse-than-them opponents in most of their games.
They gained that development advantage easily, then activated in the Box.
It's unfair, it's incredible that I have to explain it!  |

Ok, I guess that is understood now. And I can understand - from you POV - why you want to have the tickmark.
But I guess it has also been described to you why others think that your proposed solution may be problematic in regards of 'general site goals' (allow maximum number of games, increase game volume). And why it would effect others even if only you would tick the mark.
Wouldn't it be better to try and think about alternatives instead of accusing each other?
There are different people on this site. Different people have different goals, values or interests and thus a different attitide to the game. This is a forum and it is meant to exchange ideas etc. But I guess whenever it gets personal one should pause and think... what are we really talking about?
And now I am very honest with you Matt. Even if you make me think about specific topics and provided some ideas which I think are really worth considering. During those discussions - at least to me - it seems that you are only allowing your view as valid and everythinh else should be aligned to that. CR seems important to you, so would like only Blackbox games to be counted and Blackbox teams should be allowed to select to play only against other blackbox-only teams. Furthermore you advocate shorter seasons and lower re-draft budgets to play exactly with those kind of teams you like to play (and only face those). I have no idea if this environment would be more balanced. But I know that it seems you do not get a majority here to support your ideas.
And since this site is made for many... you know where is is leading, right? |

Yes. If there is CR, it should count, not just be a random number. Otherwise, we could just remove CR from the site. I would still play without CR and win rate recorded.

I suggested a shorter Season because, despite what I was told ("Don't worry, farmed GF teams won't be able to farm with the Re-Draft, and why a guy picking on GF should activate in the Box?"), even with Season Re-Draft it's still possible to have super farmed teams. I'm even sure of it, because I experienced it directly.

Yes, but I'm not surprised, as I said many posts ago. Most people here play Season 1, of course they don't care about Season 2+. Many people didn't play vs Cpomb when Cpomb was a thing in CRP, they just picked in Ranked staying away from the Box. Of course they didn't see the issue of Cpomb.
I even said that I will adapt, I will finish the IDT run with the teams I'm using then I will switch approach. I kept on posting because people posted and I wanted to reply (a pastime during the hours of failed Box activations ).
That said, I doubt that having a Box-only option or a ratio GF/Box games or a shorter Season would drastically reduce the number of games played, since most of them are between Season 1 teams.
At least I got that there is no interest in having a serious Box MM.
Let people play Season 1 teams and that's it. |

I still think that people would play season 2+ in the box as well if certain conditions would change. And it would be interesting to know what others think it might be. I have a feeling that it would be
- More volume (leading to more pairing options / lower TV gaps etc.)
- Better balance at higher TV
The first can be adressed by making playing S2+ box more attractive: Create Pull-Factors.
The 2nd would need bigger changes in season setting etc. Thus this is much more complex than the first I guess. |

You'd need:
1. To promote S2+ Box
2. A meta group. (Probably need a "Pure Box" flag added to the API.
3. Promote Majors. More buzz might encourage people to continue those teams.
4. Beg Christer to implement S2+ BBT. You probably need to show him a working meta group first though.
5. Ban MattDakka 
6. Implement MattDakka's option 1. 
A third of people who bothered to vote supported it. Who knows if having to play GF teams is discouraging people. It's a bad poll that does not differentiate between those against it and those who don't care.
3290 people accessed the site in the last 30 days. 1991 actually played a game. There are still (currently) fewer than 50 votes. I guess the "Don't Care"s have it.
I guess that the people most likely to want to play S2+ won't want to keep cutting their teams to 1350.
Most of the people who helped to make this stuff fun have either gone completely or play league only/mostly.
The very rules are against you. The glory days won't come again under these rules. The trajectory is towards lower TV and people calling the players, "pieces". |

Next time I will add an "against it" option to a poll, it's a correct observation.
I didn't add it because it was a poll about 3 ideas, not about a single one, being against it, not caring about it. |
