CBBS SpecialReport: Week 6 Update

It's been two weeks since our last update and a lot has happened during that time. Previously we had two undefeated teams in Hawaii and Cal, but both have fallen to tough conference foes. Thus we have no true favorite right now, although two teams are certainly in great position as they remain unbeaten. The Non-AQ is starting to take form, as there are three top teams that will be playing each other in the next few rounds. With so much to cover, where do we begin?

Week 4 Analysis
-Well we might as well start chronologically. Week 4 saw some huge matchups to start conference play, specifically in the Big Beast. Undefeated Cal (3-0-0) took on unbeaten Nibraskah (2-1-0) in a distinct clash of styles, but it really was no contest. The speedy rats got a quick score on O, then capitalized on a failed pass by Cal and got up 2-0 early in the first half. The lizards tried to protect the ball in the second half but to no avail, although the rats were unable to make the score look as lopsided as the game really was. Meanwhile, two elven teams left their defense in the locker-room, as their offenses were involved in an old-fashioned shoot-out. Hawaii and the BlackKnights went back and forth all game (you'd think that their defenses would learn how to stop the spread after facing it so much in practice,) where the flying Hawaiians eventually won 4-3. There weren't any notable games in the Smack 6 + Oregon, because that conference fails.

Week 5 Analysis
-Finally some signs of life from the aforementioned Smack, as lowly Buffalo managed to tie Oregon 1-1. Not a true league-changer, but another tie puts Oregon at 3-2-0 on the season. Perhaps if they tied again (or especially lost,) enough voters might think their 'Strength of Schedule' isn't good enough to be a title-game participant. Certainly a number of teams in the Beast could benefit from such a thing, though they all certainly have a tough rough left to go. Speaking of the Beast, week 5 saw some very important games for several of their teams. The always-dangerous Minni managed to tie Nibraskah 1-1, putting the rats at the same record (3-2-0) as Oregon (recall that these two tied in OoC play.) Meanwhile Cal was able to bounce back and give Pain (2-2-1) their first loss with a 2-0 nuffling (Pain's dice were redonkulously poor.)

Non-AQ Review
-It's hard to say what new games were played since our last post because the newbies are so far ahead of schedule. So far ahead, in fact, that a week 8 game was already played between Michigan and Texas (2-0 win for the winged helmets.) How could that game have been played when just a few minutes before both teams were waiting on a week 6 and 7 game to be completed? Well, early reports out of Wyoming suggest that Why-Elfing's head football coach took a fancy to not one, but all the cheerleaders at the school and ran off with them last night. The school-board had an emergency meeting to try and solve the crisis, but ultimately decided to shut down the football program entirely due to financial problems at the school. Thus the Why-Elfing program was disbanded, and their week 6 and 7 games were forfeited. As for the rest of the Non-AQ, there are two round 7 games left as the newbies begin to wrap up their regular seasons.

The Next Two Weeks
-Weeks 6 and 7 will be critical for many teams in the league, as there are more key matchups to be played. Minni already knocked off previously undefeated Hawaii with a 2-1 victory in their week 6 matchup, while Yale took on another top Non-AQ team from Va Tech and emerged victorious with a 2-1 win. Round 7 will likely be even bigger, with the huge Hawaii vs PainState game in the Beast, while Oregon and UCon renew their historic (unofficial) rivalry. These results will go a long way to help determining bowl positioning, so hopefully we will all get to watch these matches.

Individual Statistics
-While the performance of teams is the most important, great individual players can really push a team to new heights. So here are some of the top individuals statistically so far:

The best quarterback right now is Hawaii's Bryant Moniz, as he leads the BCS in completions (11) and passing (23).

Two players are currently tied for the league lead in touchdowns with seven, one being Hawaii's Malcom Lane and the other being Nibraskah's Herger, with the uber-rat also leading the country in rushing (99).

Leading the country in casualties is the deadly #23 Jordan 'Da' Todman (RB) from UCon, with seven inflictions of severe pain.

Bowl Picture
-Is it too early to talk about bowl season? Never! Right now the top title contenders are Nibraskah and Oregon, both of whom are 3-2-0 (and recall that they tied each other.) The Waterfoul have a much easier road to the championship, but could it perhaps be too easy? Teams like Hawaii and Cal would like to argue that, as they both sit at 4-0-1 and would love nothing more than a title shot. While a double-Beast championship game (say a 7-1-1 and 6-2-1 matchup,) would be awesome, it's hard to leave Oregon out of any title game given their championship history. But should that even have any implication of this season? Shouldn't their body of work from this season ultimately matter most? Ultimately it is up to each individual voter, as they are a powerful part of the final BCS standings (1/3 of it, technically.) But this debate is just getting started, as we have four weeks left to sort out the standings.

So there you have it folks! The last two weeks were reviewed while the next two were quickly previewed. We did some quick statistical analysis on some of the top individual players, and tried to stir up some controversy in the bowl picture. But there are so many games left this season, and we have some great ones coming up. Best of luck to everyone!

P.E.T.A. Headquarters Las Vegas, Nevada

It has come to our attention that a certain team from California has brazenly on national cabalvision willfully and with forethought tortured a poor defenseless wolf via gangfoul in today's Nevada vs. California matchup. P.E.T.A. would once again like to state that the mistreatment of ANY animal is wrong and should be punished to the full extent of the law. What makes this disgusting incident all the more disturbing is the fact that all of the match's referee's mysteriously choose that very moment to be tying their shoes. P.E.T.A. will be filing a petition with the NCBB to have the match referees sacked and for those responsible for the gang foul on the poor defenseless wolf to be suspended for the rest of the season. We also call on all right thinking Cabalvision veiwers to support P.E.T.A. by encouraging the senseless fouling of Humans and other bi-pedal races instead - they deserve it for all their past mistreatment of poor defenseless animals like London the wolf.

P.E.T.A. is also calling on all fans to ban California games for the rest of the season - lets hit them in the pocketbook where it really counts.

Lon Chaney
P.E.T.A president

I would have interest in joining this league the next time it opens up.

Do I just need to have a rookie team? Or, well, I'm new to fumbbl so I really have no idea how league teams even work. So thanks for any info.

CBBS Week 8 Update

It's been two weeks since our last update and a lot has happened during that time. We're hitting the stretch run of the season (only three weeks left,) and several teams are starting to make their final push for the bowls. There is still a lot of intrigue at the top, where no clear #1 team has emerged so far. The Non-AQ has been ahead for some time now and only has one round of games left before they have wrapped up their regular seasons. So without further delay, let us recap the past two weeks and preview the next two.

Weeks 6 and 7 Analysis
-As previously reported (because it was played early,) Minni knocked off Hawaii with a 2-1 victory in week 6, and then followed it up with a 2-2 tie vs the BlackKnights. Sitting at a respectable 3-3-1, da Gogres only have two games left (vs Nevada, Cal,) to try and boost their bowl standing. Week 6 also saw PainState get upset 2-0 by the aforementioned BlackKnights, but coach TodFa and his orcs got their revenge on Hawaii due to horrendous elven dice. It was a tough two weeks for Nevada as well, with losses to Cal and Nibraskah in back-2-back weeks. Moving on to the Smack, we finally had some signs of competition from the conference. Oregon took the best shots from Georgia and UCon, managing to beat the BullCentaurs (2-1), but tie the Huskies (2-2). With a third tie (and second in conference play,) of the season, could Oregon have damaged their title hopes? Vampirebilt had a solid two week run, with a tie vs UCon and a victory over Georgia. Two no-shows from the Navy program doesn't bode well for them, but at least we know that they've had technical difficulties and thus won't be auto-kicked...though their NCBB membership for next season has to be at least questioned.

The Next Two Weeks
-Weeks 8 and 9 (rounds 5 and 6 in the tournaments,) have several intriguing games that could help determine the bowl picture. In the Beast, Cal has two huge back-2-back games against Hawaii and then Minni. Talk about facing contrasting styles in consecutive weeks, sheesh! Nibraskah also has two tough matchups, first against the surging BlackKnights and then against steady PainState. In the Smack, I guess Buffalo vs UCon is forced to count as the 'marquee' game of week 8, while Oregon has one last chance to slip up during the regular season in week 9 vs Torxas (as their week 10 game vs Navy will be an auto forfeit-win.)

The Bowl Picture
-Right now we have no clear #1 team in the nation, although three have certainly put themselves in contention as of right now. Oregon (4-3-0), remains unbeaten and only has one game left (vs Torxas,) with another game counting as a forfeit win. Thus they could potentially end up with a 6-3-0 record, which is slightly better than Clemson's record last season (5-3-1) when they went to the title game (and lost vs Oregon, need we remind you.) Their opponent will likely be either Nibraskah (4-2-0), or Cal (5-0-1), although if the season ended today it's likely that the rats would get in thanks to their head-2-head crushing of the lizards. But the season is far from over, with Cal having to face Hawaii (4-0-2), Minni (3-3-1), and the BlackKnights (3-1-3), over the final three weeks. Nibraskah also has a gauntlet to try and run through, facing the BlackKnights, PainState (3-2-2), and Hawaii. Whomever emerges from the Beast will certainly be battle tested when they reach the title game, that's for sure.

Non-AQ Review
-The newbies have been ahead of us for most of the season and it's almost time for them to reap the fruits of their labors. Right now I can see ten or eleven BCS teams making a bowl game, therefor we will need several Non-AQ teams to fill the gaps. Azure and his Yale Bulldogs have finished the season unbeaten at 6-3-0, and will likely get a Fiesta or Orange bowl bid. The next bowl-eligble team (aka one that doesn't belong to a coach that also has a BCS team,) would be Eisen and his Michigan Womprats at 5-2-2, who could head to the Killer Lite bowl. Lastly we have Nomad and his Va Tech Orcies, who sit at 5-1-2 and have a tough game vs Sleepy's UTEP dwarves in the season finale. Regardless of the result, Va Tech should get a lower bowl bid, perhaps the Goober.

So there you have it folks! We've looked back at the past two rounds while also previewing the next two. There's a ton of important games left to be played, and the ever-changing bowl picture is slowly taking shape. Who will rise to the challenge and who will crumble under the pressure...well you'll just have to tune in next time to find out! Best of luck to everyone!

The bulls go into there last game having been undefeated in there league run, taking an impressive 5 games and no losses into there game against some unwashed wanabe C Dorfs tarnishing the name of the Bullcentaurs.

so in this epic clash will you be supporting the Bullcentaurs or the Bullcentaurs, choose wisely or it could the the last decision you ever make.

CBBS Week 10 Update

It's been two weeks since our last update and a lot has happened during that time. We have one round left to go before the bowl season, but the picture is still very unclear! Several teams have title aspirations yet only two can make it into the title game. Luckily we have some great matchups this round that should help sort things out. But before we look ahead, we need to look back and see how we arrived at this point.

Week 8 Analysis
-Round 5 action saw a huge matchup between Hawaii and Cal, where both teams traded early scores and the elves managed to hold off the lizards and get another score for the 2-1 victory. Nibraskah and the surging BlackKnights had a 2-2 tie, which could possibly hurt both team's bowl outlook. Meanwhile in the Smack we only had one notable game, as Buffalo took down UCon in an effort to try and reach a bowl game.

Week 9 Analysis
-Round 6 saw Oregon flex their wingular muscles when they crushed Torxas 4-1, setting them up for a huge mismatch against Navy in the week 10 finale. But the Beast saw three great contests, each with bowl implications. Cal and Minni had a hard-hitting battle that ended in a 1-1 draw when both teams could have really used a decisive W. Hawaii and Nevada had a similarly tough battle but in the end, the elves emerged with the 2-1 victory. However the most important result was easily PainState knocking off Nibraskah, handing them their first loss of the season in a 2-1 game.

Week 10 Preview
-The title game remains a mystery as a whopping five teams can make a legitimate argument to be in the game. Oregon is easily the most likely, as they are the only unbeaten team (5-3-0) with their finale against lowly Navy (1-0-7). Thus one of four teams from the Beast will have to rise up and claim the other spot. Hawaii (6-0-2) currently sits atop the conference but has a huge game against another title hopeful in Nibraskah (4-3-1), who is coming off their first loss of the season. These teams are currently ranked first and third in the Beast, respectively, and a win for either would almost guarantee a spot in the championship (as both have a H2H win over Cal, who is currently second in the conference.) Speaking of those silly lizards, Cal gets a chance to get revenge on the BlackKnights, the upstart former-NonAQ team that beat them silly in the Orange bowl last season. Cal has a decent record (5-1-2) but would need a tie in the HvN game and some serious help from the polls, as they lost to both squads. The wildcard still in the mix is PainState, who sits in fourth at a respectable (4-2-2) record. Their finale against Nevada, combined with a tie in the HvN game, combined with H2H wins over both Hawaii and Nibraskah, could perhaps push them ahead of both teams. In theory, maybe even a Nibraskah win could put Pain in the title game due to their recent clash (where Pain won.) Thus these pivotal games will be very intriguing to watch indeed!

Bowl Picture
-Right now we have nine BCS teams with bowl-eligble records, and three new coaches with Non-AQ teams that are bowl-eliglbe. So basically we already know who will likely go bowling, but we still have to figure out where. As previously mentioned, there is a slight traffic jam at the top which will predictably take a while to sort out. Thus the top three bowls will be the most confusing, while teams like the BlackKnights, Buffalo, Minni, and UCon can play for the KillerLite or Goober bowls. The Non-AQ teams that will make a bowl are Yale (Fiesta bound, perhaps,) Virginia Tech, and Michigan. But where they will go is still a mystery, and we'll need this week to figure it all out.

So there you have it folks! A very simple explanation of what is going on this week. Best of luck to everyone!

RFAdvantage Bowl Predictions!

BCS Title GameImage
#1 Hawaii 7-0-2 (.800) +12TD -5Cas
~ Hawaii had a solid season, but we must admit to being surprised at the parity in the college bowl standings this season. What looked to be a close match-up in W/T/L between #1 and #2 was finally decided when considering that Hawaii played in the far tougher Beast division this season.
vs.
#2 Oregon 6-3-0 (.784) +8TD -10Cas
~ Originally we had assumed that Oregons undefeated schedule would earn them the #1 ranking, but 1 less win and the easiest schedule (albeit the fact that their opponents never beat them contributed to SoS deliberations) in all of the AQ pulled them down and substantially behind Hawaii.

We predict an elfy match and a 3-2 OT win by the Hawaii

Rose BowlImage
#3 Cali 5-1-3 (.701) +4TD +9Cas
~ The lizards are favorites in their biggest bowl game. This may be the season they put a nice trophy into the case. 5 wins and the 5th toughest SoS and Cali is a strong bid to take home the Rose Bowl Trophy.
vs.
#4 Nibraskha 4-3-2 (.694) +3TD -8Cas
~ The rats round out the ‘exceptional’ teams of the 10th season. They were the last team to have at least twice as many wins as losses and with the 3rd toughest SoS sit nicely to play in the Rose Bowl.

Cali fails to convert on the premium opportunity and will likely stumble at all the wrong times under the big pressure. Nib:3 Cali:1

DeadEx Orange BowlImage
#5 Black Knights 4-2-3 (.676) +5TD +3Cas
~ The invincible owe their high status to one thing alone, they played the TOUGHEST schedule in all of NCBB and came out with a winning record. They will be challenged by…
vs.
#6 Minni 3-4-2 (.671) +2TD +10Cas
~ The Gogres get their highest ever bowl bid this year due to a winning record and some great play. If their coach proves to be half as smart as his players the Invicibles will be in for the game of their life.

Minni proves devastating to the Invincibles, who will reform their program after this bowl, however do most of their damage in the 2nd half and lose 3:2.

Tossit-os Fiesta BowlImage
#7 PainState 4-2-3 (.662) +2TD +14Cas
~ The once great program has fallen to hard times and will be playing a minor bowl. Although their winning record was better than Minni, their 6th toughest SoS just wasn’t enough to earn them a trip to the Orange.
vs.
#8 Yale 6-3-0 (.659) +12TD -2Cas
~ The same record that earns the Waterfoul a BCS title game shot puts the best non-AQ team, theYalies, into the Fiesta. However having a SoS in the 20’s will do that to you.

Painstate’s experience proves to much for the Yalies in their 1st bowl Pain:3 Yale:1.

Killer Lite BowlImage
#9 UCon 3-4-2 (.631) +2TD +3Cas
~ A disaster of a season and the once proud U.Con. team is filling out the lesser bowl rosters. A barely winning season and the 12th toughest SoS will face U.Con. against…
vs.
#10 VT 6-1-2 (.615) +6TD +15Cas
~ VT did well in the non-AQ and is rewarded with a mid-tier bowl game. They will be tested against an crumbling ex-powerhouse.

VT upsets U.Con. 3:2 in a nailbiter

Wonderbra BowlImage
#11 Buffalo 4-1-4 (.609) -5TD +9Cas
~ The BullCentaurs are itching to lay a beating on someone and have done it all season, they just have to hope to bring their anemic offense up to par and will be a danger in the NCBB once again.
vs.
#12 U. Nevada 3-2-3 (.599) +1TD -3Cas
~ What looked to be a breakout year for Nevada crumbled when their star wolves fell early in what felt like before the season even began. They will look for redemption and maybe a player for the future in this bowl.

Nevada pounces on the opportunity and wins the game 2:1 and picks up a player to be named from the Buffalo roster.

Goober BowlImage
#13 Michigan 5-2-2 (.583) +3TD +4Cas
~ The final non-AQ team to get a nod into this years bowl games Michigan will go in as the only non-AQ team favored in their bowl. Will they perform or give a sub-par performance?
vs.
#12 Torxas 3-2-4 (.579) -3TD +6Cas
~ The orcs don’t understand this game but hey, they seem to like it’s physical nature all the same.

Michigan will take this one falling away, giving up only the late td to make this look like a game in the books 2:1

McNurgle's BowlImage
#Almost Last Vampy 2-1-5 (.485) -10TD -19Cas
~ Snakebitten Vampy will again be the favorite? Least favorite? For the McNurgle’s this season. We expect them to handle Navy with ease.
vs.
#LAST Navy 1-0-8 (.250) -10TD -4Cas
~ The second worst performance by a team in NCBB history, they were able to sneak out a forfeit win to keep them from challenging for that dishonor.

Really, there is NO winners in the McNurgle’s, only the occasional survivor
