WWB Week #4 Preview

Aussie Division

Gortag Warskulls (0-0-3) vs Mudplay (2-0-1) – Mudplay is coming off their 1st loss of the year, while the Warskulls still haven't gotten their act together yet. Expect more of the same for the Warskulls as they make plans for the beheading of their head coach and GM. Prediction : Mudplay by .6

Moxious Mates of Miyuso (0-0-3) vs Tvarnholm Bearskins (2-0-1) - The Bearskins saw their record winning streak snapped by a newly promoted team from the MLB. Obviously they were not in awe of the Bearskins 2004 WWB Banner. The Norse should be able to get back to their winnings ways vs Triple M. Prediction : Bearskins by .7

Saints Diseases (1-0-2) vs Shining Force (3-0-0) – The Force has become this year's surpise team from down under. The league's leading scoring team goes for win #4. Prediction : Force by 0.4

Knights of Khorne (1-0-2) vs Judean People's Front (3-0-0) – JPF pulled off the upset last week to move into 1st place. Khorne won their 1st of the year to get out of last place in the division. The newcomer JPF looks too strong in this matchup. Prediciton : JPF by 0.4

PRE-GAME NOTES: The Despoilers practiced long and hard in preparation for the match and were rewarded with an extra re-roll for the match. Ironforge suffered from some personnel problems however. Uiri Lighthunter (runner) was out for the match recovering from an injury sustained last game. Bkukr Trollsmasher (blitzer) and Ronki Graydigger (runner) were too busy arguing over whether Blood Light tasted great or was less filling and refused to be on the pitch at the same time.

THE MATCH: It was supposed to be a bloody battle on the pitch, and at first it seemed to be heading that way. Just before the match began, a dwarven fan yelled out “Tastes Great!” and threw his beer mug onto the pitch. Strundi Fearcaster (cd blocker) was hit sharply on the head stunning him. The Ironforge cheerleaders gave him a complementary t-shirt with a case of Blood Light and told him to keep up the good work.

Ironforge received the ball and proceeded to drive down the field. Therrax Soulflayer II the rookie bull managed to take down the ball carrier with a lucky hit. Unfortunately, it landed between two rather ugly shortleggers. Hoping to kick the ball closer to his teammates, team captain Lokkr Doombringer (bull) dives onto the ball. To pretty much everyone’s surprise the ball bounces right into his hands and he dodges out of the pack with the ball.

Enraged at this turn of events Terheh Stoneanvil (slayer) blitzes Lokkr and drives him off the pitch. While in the crowd Lokkr is badly hurt when bashed over the head with a now half-empty case of Blood Light. A dwarven fan sporting his new Ironforge t-shirt claims responsibility and is awarded an autographed team beer stein.

Amid the confusion, Zoggo Fainthearted (hobgoblin) picks up the ball and dashes for the endzone. In his haste, he trips and falls flat on his face coughing up the ball. Sensing an opportunity Ronki scoops up the loose ball and throws it to Kimi Battlecutter (blitzer). Out of nowhere Rungi Blooddrinker (cd blocker) leaps (more of a short hop) and grabs the ball out of the air for an interception. Inspired, Rungi blitzes Ronki en route for the endzone and badly hurts him. Ironically, this solves the Taste Great – Less Filling debate and Bkukr rejoins the match.

Far from giving up the dwarves manage to knock the ball loose again but cant quite get to it. Zoggo nimbly grabs the ball and holds onto it long enough to score as the half winds down.

Amazingly the second half picks up right were the first left off. The Despoilers receive the ball and begin to form a loose cage. The normally nimble Scrubbi Yellowstreak (hobgoblin) fails to pick up the ball even with his sure hands. The dwarves smash right through the cage and send a pair of hobgoblins to the KO box. Running out of options Zoggo grabs the ball and tries to hand it off to Therrax. Showing uncommon wisdom for a rookie, Therrax drops the ball to the ground.

Outnumbered now 11-8 on the pitch, Scrubbi grabs the loose ball and heads for the sideline. The dwarves have no problem smearing him into the pitch and bouncing the ball into the crowd.

By now too drunk to see straight the dwarven fan in the Ironforge t-shirt accidentally throws the ball closer to the Despoilers endzone. The dwarves try to get back to the ball but end up tripping over themselves in the process. Seeing his second chance Rungi makes a grab for the ball and heads for the endzone. With dwarves hot on his tail Rungi finishes his speedwalk into the endzone.

Both teams exchange some hits to no effect and the match is over.

AFTERTHOUGHTS: The Despoilers manage to pull off the upset even without their star, proving that lucky dice are far more effective than even a str5 bull centaur.

Most improved player award is given to Rungi Blooddrinker who ended his 11 game spp drought by getting a score, int and cas in the match! Hopefully it wont take him another 12 games to decide to be a part of the team again.

Thanks to Gertwise for a fun match!

WWB Preview Week #4 NA

IronForge (0-1-2) vs Villanous Sinners (1-0-2) - Forge is coming off an embarrassing blowout to the Despoilers while the Sinners must play back to back games vs Dwarves .... fun. Prediction : Forge by .1

Gorgoth_Despoilers (1-0-2) vs Grugni's Grudgebearers (2-0-1) - Another classic bashy matchup in the NA division. Short hair vs short hair. The Despoilers will hope for Deja Vu this week and a repeat romp over dwarves. Prediction : Despoliers by 0.3

Mausoleum of Pain (1-0-2) vs Chaaarge! (0-1-2) - Pain gets to face a beaten up Norse squad this week. The question isn't whether MOP will win, its whether Chaaarge! can stay healthy enough to compete for the rest of the season. Prediction : MOP by .8

Malevolence (3-0-0) vs Judas Priestess (3-0-0) - In the biggest surpise of the year, one of these 2 teams will start 4-0. Preistess will try and get their last licks in before getting "dwarfed" later in the year. Prediction : Preistess by .2

The Despoilers were primed to upset yet another dwarf team. The long practices paid off for em and they received an extra rr for their efforts. Match started with the Despoilers getting perfect defense. Managed to draw a trollslayer into a two dice block my choice. Against my brand new mino. Of course he gets pow/pow! And the mino gets badly hurt.

Undaunted the star bull Lokkr sprints into the backfield to put a tz on the ball carrier. He trips of course. The dwarfs return the favor when their blitzer trips on the following turn. Lokkr sees his opening, standing up and blitzing the runner. Ball pops free and Lokkr snatches it. It takes 5 dwarfs but they finally knock him down and he’s stunned. The aforementioned gang of dwarves get together to ram Gloran’s dirty boot so far up Lokkr’s arse that the poor bull is badly hurt and unable to finish the match.

Throw in a couple stunned chaos dwarves and it 7 vs 11 on the pitch. Due more to a failed GFI by the dwarves than any real coaching ability the Despoliers prevent the Grudgebearers from scoring this half.

Second half continues in pretty much the same fashion. Two more ko’s, three more cas and the Despoilers are again getting thrashed. They do however manage to dish out a little punishment of their own and rack up 3 cas against the bloody longbeards. The fans apparently loved the match rewarding both teams with increased fan factor.

Thanks again to Lurking Grue for a fine match and a quality lesson in the use of dwarven footwear.

The result

Chaaarge! started on defense with the sacrifice of Stone E. Slab who left the game not on a stretcher but on his namesake… Ug was saving his apoth because he had a bad feeling… The defense held and had an 85% chance to score on the last turn before the half. Just needed a single dodge (and had dodge skill – opposing player did not have tackle) and needed to make one gfi and had a RR available… but the player fell…

Second half started with a thrown rock that killed Ramm the 28 SPP star ogre… And Ug was glad he saved the apoth until he found the apoth drugged out as the last bit of life fled from Ramm’s corpse.

Then the second half started with a couple BHs and Chaaarge! held on until the vary end when the Pain scored against the three player defense.

Coach Ug is still shell-shocked from the loss of Ramm as he has never been able to get the funds to field a full Norse team cuz they die off too fast…

Another game that will maintain our CAS ratio.

Notable performances by the Mummy Queen, our ST6 Mummy who scored 3 Cas and by the Mummy God with 2 of his own.
Good game also from our excellent dodge, sure feet Thro-ra who scored a TD and even made a pass !

Who's next?

Judas Priestess 2 - 0 Malevolence

A 2 sided game. Early on it was Preistess with the steal and Malev with the skulls. The worst was a Frenzy move by star WE Luna Tikk that sent her into a 2D against block, and skull and RIP. The Apoth had been used the previous turn. So goes a WWB legen and all-star. The Zons paused for a moment in memberance.

Up 1-0 at half Priest received and quickly sent 2 DEs to the KO box. A sure TD was denied by superb, pulling dice out of their ass rolling to steal the ball, secure it, and send it back upfield. All with 0 rerolls. Just when OT looked inevitable, Nuffle switched again, tripped up a DE and allowed the Zons to score on a long pass in turn 8.

Good luck Hawk next game. Build yourself another WE legend.

Ouch! Week four has been a bad week for the All Star champs of last season. Both Luna Tikk (one of the shining stars of the all star games) and Ramm (star Ogre from Chaaarge!) both dead... Ramm was killed by a rock thrown potentially by Nuffle himselt that killed him and the apoth failed Sad

WWB Week #5 Predictions

NA Division

Iron Forge (1-1-2) vs Mausoleum of Pain (2-0-2) – This will be a test to see how MOP fairs against a team that can take on the bashing mummies head to head. Forge has not played well this year and head man Gertwise has been coaching like he’s got porn on the TV while he plays. Prediction : MOP by .3 (but decreases their avg. CAS per game)

Villanous Sinners (1-0-3) vs Chaaarge! (0-1-3) – When was the last time you saw Norse and Necro teams happy to see each other? Answer ; In the bashy WWB. Chaaarge! is still trying to recover from the last too games vs Zon and Khemri. The Sinners are happy to NOT see dwarves. Prediction : Sinners by .3

Gorgoth Despoilers (1-0-3) vs Malevolence (3-0-1) – A tough game for the elves, made even tougher with the death of all-star Luna Tikk. Who will stop monster BC Lokkr Doombringer? I doubt anyone can/will. Prediction : Despoilers soil …errr spoil the elves by 0.4

Grugni’s Grudgebearers (3-0-1) vs Judas Priestess (4-0-0) – The head to head record between these 2 teams says it all. Grugni leads 2-0. It was a nice ride atop the standings while it lasted. Prediction : Grugni by .7

Aussie Division

Gortag Warskulls (0-0-3) vs Knights of Khorne (2-0-2) – The Warskulls are coming off a bye week after Mudplay decided to take a siesta. They run into a hot Khorne team with a two game winning streak. Prediction : Knights by 0.4

Saints Diseases (2-0-2) vs Moxious Mates of Miyuso (0-0-4) – In week #5 it’s Rotters vs rotten. The humans have forgotten to play defense this year with a record 11 TDs allowed. Their TR is slowly catching up to the other teams, but the gap may still be too big in this one. Prediction : Saints by 0.7

Shining Force (3-0-1) vs Tvarnholm Bearskins (3-0-1) - What once looked like the game of the week may become the blowout of the year as the Bearskins come in short handed for this contest. I’m sure they will be looking for a rematch after this loss. The “force” won’t be with them. Prediction : Force by 0.3

Mudplay (2-0-1) vs Judean People’s Front (3-0-1) – Well the 1st team to show up wins. If both teams show up, this could be a great game. A little bit of speed, power, and coaching finesse all wrapped up in one game. Or …. We could have a double forefeit. Prediction : Double forefeit

Judas Priestess 0 - 2 Grugni's Grudgebearers

The forecasters got this one correct.

The zons actually held their own in the 1st half, getting so far as to steal the ball and attempt a chuck back upfield. Until ..... a dwarf rolled a 6 and intercepted.

Down 1-0 the zons still had 3 turns to equalize. A thrown rock on the kickoff and some unlucky blocks meant no chance to equalize. Second half kick off ...Blitz!.

Still we managed to get the ball until 4 skulls took away most hope. Next turn we brought out the fireball to tra and tie the game. A longbeard dodged it with a 1. No worries, we still had a chance to scmaper off to freedom. Dodge rolls = 2-1.

Game over. The last 3 turns I made the girls lie face down in the mud, thinking about how crappy they had played. I also told them as punishment they would have to play Necro and more dwarves their next tow games.

They weren't happy.

Where have all the elves gone?

Tvarnholm Bearskin 1 - 0 Shining Force

The forecaster weren't so lucky with this one, the Bearskins wiping the frost from their eyes as they awoke from a long wintery hibernation (can't remember when my last game was!), and found themselves matched up against their most hated foe!
The Elves of Shining Force play well and this match was no exception. One of only two teams to have ever defeated the Bearskins in their 20 game history, they certainly made us earn this win!

Both teams went at the ball from turn one and went at it hard in this desperately fought battle. It wasn't often that a player managed to keep his hands on the ball for more than a turn as it changed hands and flew around the pitch more times than could be counted (especially by my boys whose talents lie elsewhere).

I guess we were a little lucky really, but it definately was our undeniable greatness and supreme skill that won through in the end. Wink

Bring it on. Who's next?

Riverbottom Nightmare Band 4 vs 0 Gortag Warskulls

What a welcome to the W.W.B.! We would like to thank league management for giving us this chance to play for the people of such a fine and upstanding league. We also thank the Gortag Warskulls for being such gracious hosts and really getting into the music. We look forward to many more excellent concerts. Full report from Gortag available in the link above.

Chaaarge! 1 vs 2 Grugni's Grudgebearers

We put up a valiant fight in this tightly contested match. It was tight until the Grudgebearers applied their 54 point strength advantage to crush the life and will out of the valiant but doomed norse.

Checkout how the Norse managed to take the lead and then the beating that they got for taking it...
