Well done Athel Loren! Your victory over the elves of Albion brings us to 9-4 Albion, and even if all of us other looses, we will stil win the ICS!

Thanks ttorvatn. Athel Loren and coach are still celebrating the victory. Given that this (a win of BBoDT when it matters) doesn't happen often the coach could not resist to write an after match report. Totally biased of course. Here it is:

"Athel Loren BBoDT vs Elves of Albion 3:2. A close match that looked like another surefire loss for BBoDT as early as H1 T7 ... Read what happened
EoA receive first. In T3 BBoDT's Farodin Moondancer, assisted by his fellow WD Nuramon Wildfire leaps into the cage and 2d blitzes the Elven ballcarrier. But he snakes the attack and after this fail the EoA star catcher Eldertree has no problems any more to run with the ball into the endzone (in T4). Afterwards BBoDT advances carefully (or so we thought), leaving the bc out of reach of Gibby's wrodge catchers and applying a loose screen to avoid a potentially devastating fireball. But the screen isn't good enough. In t7 the wiz knocks out the bc close to the LOS, a defender is blitzed away, the Elves pick up the ball with their thrower Sparrowgrass, Sparrowgrass passes to a catcher, who in turn races to the other side, out of reach of the surprised woodies except Farodin. Farodin blitzes the ball free for a moment but, laying on the ground, watches helpless as the wrodge Elven catcher, despite resistance from another woodie lino next turn easily picks up the ball again to score in H1 T8. 0:2 and the woodies are once more in dire straits. But speedy Farodin scores OTTD in H1 T8, and BBoDT is back in the game. H2 starts with a blitz of the EoA, which gets catcher Fellstop in ball possesion behind the woodies lines, and AG5 bltzer Rosestaff in close distance to assist. Nevertheless woodie wrackle lino Alvias Beastmanhunter bltzes the ball free, WD Nuramon picks up and immediately advances past the LOS, protected by a cage of woodies. Slightly outnumbering the Elves of Albion and no longer having to fear the wizard the woodies score in H2 T3 after the EoA catcher Eldertree broke into the cage but failed to bring down the bc. 2:2 and 6, repspecively 5 turns left to decide the match. In T3 thrower Sparrowgrass picks up and places himself directly behind the LOS and covered by a tight screen of his comrades. The woodies in T4 put pressure on the cage. Farodin blitzes aside a guard catcher to mark Sparrowgrass while most of the team assists or covers the lone advanced EoA catcher. The EoA try to disengage and mange to build another cage, but one of the senior catchers trips while dodging and seriously hurts himself. T5 another catcher is koed, which means that the EoA are meanwhile seriously outnumbered (7 vs 10) - but still in ball possession. After the EoA retreat the cage once more in T5 (now already clearly in their own half), the woodies in T6 start the first direct attack on the bc. Farodin brings down Sparrowgrass and catches the free ball. However, next turn Farodin is brought down after a successful block from rookie lino Snowstaff. Thrower Sparrowgrass catches the bouncing ball, but can't move away anymore in time, and in T7 after a row of blocks from the woodies finally goes down once more. Blodge lino Nandalee manges to pick-up the free ball despite being in a tacklezone and ends his turn just 4 squares away from the endzone. The remaining EoA desperately run back and try to blitz the ball free, but fail. They mark Nandalee from several sides, but Nuramon in T8 has no problems to bring one of the defenders down, which enables Nandalee to dodge away at +2 and score. T8 H2 and the wooies lead 3:2. Victory is almost certain now - almost. The enraged EoA fans start a massive riot, which causes the referee to turn back the clock - but only after the woodies have set-up to defend against an OTTD and thus leave the flanks uncovered. 2 turns left to score! Thrower Sparrowgrass picks-up backfield and immediately (at +4) passes to catcher Eldertree, who hands over to fellow dodge catcher Fallenbrigt who in turn wastes no time to run the ball deep into the woodies half, ending 5 squares away from the endzone with one flank covered by blitzer Rosestaff. But the woodies are determined not to let victory slip away in the last minute. Half of the team surrounds Rosestuff and Fallenbright, who finally is brought down by wrackle lino Alvias. Kicker Gonvalon makes sure that Falowbright will stay to the ground while Farodin picks up the ball and hides safely behind a wall of his teammates. H2 T8 sees Rosestaff trying a desperate blitz against Farodin. Against all odds Rosestaff gets to the bc, but Farodin, heavily defended by his team has no trouble to stave off the attack. Rosestaff, totally exhausted, goes down and the game is finally over."

Thanks for the match Gibby. Very entertaining, at least from this side. I am well aware that this game could easily have gone the other way.

Tight game from start to Turn 16 Riot as two very diff AV 7 elf teams face off. OT would have been fun, but being an Albionian, the win is just fine. Wink

Bretonnia, you're playing for pride now...

Guess I'll have to win the Cup for Bretonnia then! The rest of the ICS still plays for pride and for the chance at a Royal Pardon!

Gz to Albion and Smeat who gets to draft his conference first.

I must admit I was a little bit of a fool when I picked my draft for this one... I picked it with trying to get the best team to win the OWCC Inter-Conference Shield and forgot that I would be picking a very strong bunch of competition in the Albion Conference!

Well, it looks like it worked in my favour for the Shield, but I came 6 out of 10 in the Conference!

I'll know for next time! Smile

Well, the Expats have lost to the 'Jacks both of their previous meetings, and both 0-2.

However, both of those had something this game should not have - Helmut Wulf. Both those games, the 'Jacks had both the 'Saw and won the coin toss to go first, and the Expats were down several Sauri before you could shout "Ref!"

With only 80k coming their way this time, we'll see how things turn out...

And all that casualty karma that had built up broke loose like a flood on the AV 7 Norse, and the Expats bash their way to a dogfight T8 defensive score and then own the 2nd half for a 2-0 win.

After 8 Seasons, in their 5th playoff appearance, after 3 seasons of finishing 2nd place... Expats are da winnnnerrrrsssszzzz!!!!!!!11111111

An Exceptional Season!

Season VIII was an exceptional one for the OWCC in more ways than one: it was the largest yet, with a total of 32 teams participating in 4 different conferences; the New Bretonnia Expatriates finally took home the title after being the most successful team not to have won the league; and several single-season and all-time records were smashed.

Up until this season, no single player had managed to match the touchdown record set by Timber Jonas II back in Season V (eight touchdowns). However, in Season VIII, not one but three players equalled the record - Wiland Auggener, Antipater, and Crima Clovenhoof. Crima Clovenhoof also managed to break the previous record for most distance rushed in a single season.

What was perhaps more impressive was that the single season record for furthest passing distance, initially set by Harshniz back in the first season and unbroken since then, was finally smashed by another orc thrower - Skarfang, of the Apuccini Avalanches. Skarfang is in many ways the heir of Harshniz, following in his footsteps as a great player in the classic orc passing game.

But it wasn't just a particularly agile season. The single season casualty record, previously held by the formidable Siemon of the notorious Uzkulak Pirates, was also broken by Gorespitter of the Wasteland Vagabonds.

This record-breaking season pushed several players into the all-time record books as well, expanding the number of active all-time record holders from one at the start of the season (the Dishonoured Officer, the record blocker) to four at the end of it.

Jungle Warrior (of the Serpents Coast Scavengers) and Perdiccas (of Palinam Diadochi) are both currently tied with all-time legends Tomas Bot (top scorer) and Urdithane (most completions) respectively, and threaten to remove both from the record books next season, leaving only Siemon from the Pirates at their peak. This is quite a feat; a few seasons ago it seemed unthinkable that Urdithane, the undisputed champion of the OWCC, would not hold a single league record!

The fourth new all-time record holder is Crima Clovenhoof of the Diseased Wasters, who now holds the record for most rushing, totalled across several seasons.

Congratulations to all the coaches who have players in the record books. To see all the current records, visit the OWCC Page and click on "Player Records".
