Arkansas Laserbacks 2 vs Wichitoada State Slanners 1
The day is quite nice, if a bit windy. The Arkansas home crowd really comes out in force, swamping the smattering of Wichitoada fans. Arkansas coach Miyuso chooses tails and wins the toss, opting to receive.

First Half: Wichitoada coach jaradical sets up a "boat" defense with catchers back deep. Arkansas sets up an aggressive line with Warriors square up on the defenders, in the 0 and 1 columns. Two fullbacks await the ball while Beastman Lance Alworth cheats south to the hashmarks as a halfback. The kick goes back near Beastman fullback Jim Benton. The Laserbacks push southward, with ineffectual initial line-blocking, and Benton fumbles the ball trying a pass play. A scrum along the sidelines ensues, in which Benton pulls off a Completion and Arkansas surfs two of the three Wichitoada Catchers and wins control, and pulls in a touchdown on Turn 7 with Benton, after Warrior Bud Brooks Badly Hurts a Linefrog. The two-turn Wichitoada drive is doomed, as the 9-man squad has to telegraph its play and lacks the numbers or skills to power through.

Second Half: Arkansas sets up deep, but with a five-man line. Wichitoada puts up four Journeymen on the line, with Catchers and rostered Linefrogs split wide and a Journeyman back deep. Cheering Fans favors Arkansas. A strong southward push including a Completion from Journeyman Julius Strongstream turns into a frantic zip to the endzone with the ball in the hands of Catcher Hauker Frogcraft, only to see Frogcraft maimed by Beastman Martine Bercher, who steals the ball. Bercher can't hold on, though, and gets thrown down to yield a TD for Wichitoada Catcher Starlight Hop-In.

New drive, same basic formations, except that the "mast" of the Wichitoada boat defense is missing, as it's 11-on-8. The crowd continues to cheer and stomp for Arkansas, and the ball goes right into Brooks's hands. The frogs are all over Brooks, but he soldiers on, not once going down until he makes his way into the end zone on Turn 8 and earns his first skill.

Player of the Week: Brooks. He made several critical plays, wearing the Slanners down early and keeping his feet in the fourth quarter.

UNLZ Communicators 1 vs UB Powermongers 1
The weather is good. The crowd strongly favors the home team Communicators, who call tails on the toss. Heads comes up, and UB opts to receive.

First Half: UNLZ boldly puts both Ulfwerener and three Linemen on the line, in a spread out at the 4, 2, and 0 columns. UB obligingly lines up 9 men on the line of scrimmage. The line-blocking doesn't go great, and though the Powermongers are able to get the ball to the line of scrimmage, they find themselves with nowhere to go and rather crazily elect to punt rather than risk a hit on the carrier. UNLZ Runner C. Smolka obligingly takes the ball and manages to keep himself free of UB's pursuing Beastmen, though Valenzuela the UNLZ Ulfwere suffers a smashed hip trying to, uh, it wasn't clear... and Beastman Chichito Guatelli gets himself a taste of Communicator flesh before Smolka walks it in.

Second Half: UB is at 9 men, vs UNLZ's 8. UB sets up a 101 line with a strong interior defense. UNLZ orients southward, with only three men on the defenders. Still, they get a good shove on the line and on the blitz the remaining Ulfwere, D'Ambrosio, mauls Guatelli, probably a career-ending injury. (The AV roll was a 9; had UB protected its Beastmen there would have been no problem.) Warrior Diego Spallatti Badly Hurts D'Ambrosio's protection, and when he gets blitzed down the UB backfield gets right in UNLZ carrier Smolka's face. A bad turn for UNLZ and Smolka is KO, Spallatti has the ball, and there's no clear way through his protection. The two UNLZ linemen who make their way downfield are rounded up and taken out, netting a Casualty for UB Warrior Damián "Headbutter" Merino. Spallatti hands off to Beastman Alexis "Pijo" Scaravaglione for the Turn 8 TD.

Player of the Week: Diego Spallatti. HIs spirited play saved the second half after UB basically gave the game away on a badly-timed punt.

Week 3

Trojan Flyspecks 1 vs ITBA Tinkerers 1

Trojan Flyspecks coach Morsing wins the coin toss before a Trojan-friendly crowd of 18,000 and elects to kick.

First Half: ITBA coach Garcangel sets up a standard "boat" defense with linemen spread wide in the 3 and 0 columns. The Flyspecks put up a strong front with only one Pestigor, Niels Norgaard, set deep. A Quick Snap and some iffy line-blocking leaves a breakable-looking cage, but the Beast of Nurgle pins down midfield, and a both-down block ends the Tinkerers' turn before they can capitalize. The Flyspecks turn the corner, but a gutsy play by ITBA Blitzers R. Pizzini and Matt D.B. cuts off the escape. Flyspecks Warrior Mikkel N. Hedegaard takes out a Catcher but can't cage up effectively, and Matt D.B. throws a 2d block to open a hole for Pizzini to zip in and 1d blitz the ball free (with a Team Re-Roll), for Catcher Tincho Campo to recover. A Trojan Warrior comically tries to keep up, but Campo zips away. On the other side of the pitch, Matt D.B. suffers a serious injury at the hands of a Rotter, Peter C. Rasmussen, before Campo scores on Turn 5.

ITBA sets up another boat, like last time but with fewer passngers. Rotter Daniel L. Krogh gets himself a Cas, and the drive is nice and dramatic, but nothing really comes of it and the score is 1-0 Tinkerers at the half, with the Tinkerers set to receive.

Second Half: The Flyspecks set up shallow and aggressive, with Warriors and Beast on the line. The Tinkerers, down to 8 men vs 11, set up a southbound offense, one that looks like it's geared to building off of a beachhead rather than running in a quick score. (This coach thinks that was the difference between tying and winning this game, but no more of that.) The superior Trojan numbers let them take midfield to prevent a redirect, and while the Tinkerers manage to break through, they can't get the depth for a proper cage and get swallowed. After much jockeying, Hedegaard gets the ball, hands off to Norgaard, and it's off to the races for a tie.

Player of the Week: This being a tie game I'm going to nominate both Mikkel N. Hedegaard, Trojan Warrior, and R. Pizzini, Tinkerer Blitzer. Both had key plays that led to scores.

ULL move to 2-0-2 with a solid performance in winning 2-1 against OSU.

Finally gotten back to 11 actual scholarship players now as well.

Dice were hot for ULL just now as we rode a wave of POWs and some unfortunate heat exhaustion to the Penn State lads in a 1-0 victory.
