You might want to consider another even more basic pitch for colour blindness. Maybe white with black dots & lines. Here are some simulations of the three common forms of colour blindness. Not a doctor, so not sure how accurate this site was for its simulations, but you can see it is hard to see the players depending on what you have.

they look okay to me on the pitches, I personally think the only problems are the icons clashing with each other not the pitches. You'd really need to ask someone who is colour blind though, also you can switch to the default pitch at any point as well, and you have the option of abstract icons. So I think we are covered. |

I personally use the abstract set because I have a hard time telling the positionals apart (relatively high DPI display). Not colour blind though  |

I think Sera did the 'Star Wars' league, another great theme.
If there is ever a big client that opens a whole new avenue for icons. All gameboyesque sprites are just a bit too big for the current client, but they would be fine for a client double the size.
At some point I want to develop a 'one piece' game. I have the rules, and a silly amount of icons (theres an underground mob doing a fighter game with them. Would be a blast. |

So I made this as a comparison between the fumbbl cup and the normal one. I don't think anyone can say the dark shade is not significantly darker. Too dark is going to be subjective of course, I just don't like it because I've never seen grass that dark before. I do like the idea of it being better maintained and the double column width colour. I think if the lighter shade of the new pitch was the darkest the pitch got it would be perf.

I don't mind the darkness, maybe a bit lighter. I would suggest a bit more vibrant green. Looks good though. |

FC pitch could be lighter. The current one looks like it's seen heavy rain and there are dark clouds/dusk. |
