There's a section about GIMP, but is there anything else?

GIMP is great for arranging imported images, adding effects, etc, but when you want to draw a new image (or draw on an existing one), there are much better apps, and they're rarely mentioned.

Inkscape is my favourite tool for vector images, but not only. Some of the brushes (like the fountain pen mode) are superb.

Mypaint is just the tool artists need. you won't find better brushes.

Krita (a part of Calligra suit) is pretty cool too, but I don't use it much (Inkscape & Mypaint already do the job).

For Linux users, all those apps are in Ubuntu's repository, but there are also Windows versions available. And of course, it's open source. Smile

Thanks Kam, not familiar with those but I'll add them to the forum guides sections.

Yeah the site is very bare bones so far, but we decided to go live early so suggestions like this can come in at the start.

I'm suprised there's so much interest already as there's still a hell of a lot to upload yet! Will try get all my current images onto the site over the next two weeks.

Keep the input coming, I'm not precious about the forum at all and welcome ideas.

Have also added a plug in that allows you to upload images directly as you post, which should make things much easier. Just click the "Add image to post" button at the top when you create a thread or reply.

To give you an idea, that's what I used to draw the template of the note version of the GLN. It took me... what? 2 mins to do it? Very Happy And I'm no artist. Of course, you can do much more complex and / or beautiful stuff with it, but even a rookie can do nice templates with that app.

Another 50 or so images added, and a whole bunch of fiddling with settings and structure done. Also, for the easily amused amongst you I set up a naughty word list that auto changes your foul language to something more family friendly. Feel free to try find them out Wink

Will add any I missed to the list as we go.

Enough for one night I think, time for some fumbbling Very Happy

Added a links section with a bunch of links to completely open-source free image sites I use. Very good quality high res' images for you to adapt. Literally hundreds of thousands of images between them.

Also slightly re-jigged the layout of the various sections of the forum to make more sense.

Will do some more next week, having some time with the family today Very Happy

Free or open-source fantasy art sites links added. About a dozen or so. Includes things like scanned in old fantasty and sci-fi book artworks.
