This forum thread is for anything relating to Season 65 of the SWL.

Special Announcement
This season marks a special occasion for the SWL. Not only are we celebrating our 65th season, but we are now 25 seasons into the CRP era and still going strong.
In order to celebrate this milestone there are some changes afoot. The SWL Guide has been rewritten in parts to be up-to-date, while for the fluff-oriented, we have new HoF teams to unveil, and records galore!
We would also like to announce

The BOB BORC CUP

Details to follow...

Links:
HouseKeeping:

  • Divisional Structure
    1 Premier, 4 Conferences, 1 Regional
  • Season Commencement
First round will begin on Monday 30th May with a deadline of 13th June.
  • Axing
PM to the swladmin FUMBBL account by 10pm Monday SWL (Sydney) time if your game has not yet been played. Check out the Guide for more information or check with someone else in chat. Refer to post below for more details about expectations. This is also the method for advising of parking at the end of a season.
  • General
Please be aware that we rely on individual coaches to be active in checking this forum, arranging games against opponents (especially if not on east coast of Australia) and in communicating with Admins. The responsibility is on the coach to enquire, not the Admins to inform. Please feel free to ask any questions, anytime.
  • Trial of Blood
Please be aware that the Trial of Blood is not a chance for teams to grow at the expense of competitive play. Play to win and keep the integrity of the SWL intact. If admins deem that a coach is not abiding by this then the team may have to retrial.

Rules to be brought in for Season 65:

  • There are no specific changes to SWL rules in Season 65

Commish's Comments:

  • Admin are keeping an eye on recent changes (particularly promotion/relegation and ToB) and will review/make changes as and when they deem necessary.
  • Admin reserve the right to change the divisional structure and drafting team's TV/TW limit whenever it is deemed to be in the best interests of the league.
  • Have fun, bring the Fluff and get those games played (I love to hear the Axeman cry!)

The BOB BORC CUP

To celebrate the long life of the SWL, we're looking for something to freshen the place up a bit. So, for a change of pace the SWL is going to run the Bob Borc Cup between Season 65 and 66 in place of the traditional round robin.
For the first time since the Gentleman’s Picnic way back in Season 7, SWL’ers will be able to use their league teams to compete in a knockout competition. Yes, that’s right – your SWL teams! The winner will hoist the prestigious Bob Borc Cup, sponsored by the SWL legend himself (we’re paying him too much!).

The rules:
• Current SWL League Teams Only
• Overtime will determine draws.
• Round One will be 1 week rather than the usual 2.
• Normal scheduling rules apply except that you won’t know your next opponent until they play. As such, we will be strict on extensions.
• Promotions and Relegations from last season will not be affected and will apply for the next season as usual.
• The Draft will be run during the Semi Finals.
• You may park as normal and sit out the tournament.
• Only Golden level twahnlows will be awarded.
• First round byes will be random, with drafting teams ineligible.

The prizes:
• Winner earns a spot on the URN team. If Winner already on Urn team, runner up gets spot.
• Winner of the Cup will get 100,000 gold crowns added to their treasury (pending FUMBBL admin negotiation).
• Winner gets boasting rights as the Bob Borc Cup Champion until the next one is run (potentially eternal).

Q-Pool
Additionally, we will be considering a Q-Pool Tournament for newly drafting teams and those who want to keep their players fighting fit. This will be a short round robin tournament, probably of 4 rounds to give people the usual opportunity to build their teams.

FAQ

Why Are We Doing This?
Our current schedule of 5 seasons per year is pretty full on and pushes the limits of the holiday period while also potentially resulting in player burnout. Instead of the 8 weeks+2 Week break it usually takes to run a season, this tournament can be run in 6 Weeks with a 1 Week break, giving us more flexibility for scheduling.

Also, we believe that the Cup presents an opportunity for different races and approaches to shine. Rather than grinding out draws on the way to a Premiership, a team must go on a winning run and therefore must be able to defeat all their opponents.

Is this going to happen all the time?
At the moment we are going to see how it goes but the plan is to run this tournament annually in the middle of the year. We wanted to give people sufficient notice so are trialling it in the 4th season slot this year.

Tomay’s Power Rankings

Firstly I want to thank CaptainSmithHeart[/b ] and [b]ramchop for the excellent statistical work they have done compiling swl records, their contributions to the league are phenomenal.

1. Slumbering Skink: Back to back, won as favorites. Who’s going to stop them?

2. Wings of the Condor [+1]: Threatening but dropping games they probably shouldn’t.

3. Sotek Sacred Spawning [-1]: Consistent but need to put a full campaign together in prem.

4. Wanja Warriors [+4]: Crazy roster but was it a one time deal for Stu?

5. SWL Fun Police: Can win any game from casualties alone.

6. Error 404 [-2]: Grumpsh interest appears to be dropping, so does play quality.

7. Steaked [-1]: Lucky or good? I’m not sure.

8. Ashamaniac [+4]: This roster is a dwarf coaches wet dream. Is redmaul a real dwarf coach though?

9. Daemon Ex Tesserae [+7]: Should be back in prem next season with better roster.

10. Eu De Toilet [+14]: Roster building, Irgy confidence building. Look out.

11. Striking Thunder Beards [+28]: Manzoo has arrived. Team looking a little underdone but coaching solid.

12. Orcs For Correct Spelling [-2]: Unlucky last season, look solid.

13. Jaegars [-4]: Good building season, time now to capitalise.

14. Urban Nightmare [+3]: One dimensional but can win on casualties alone.

15. Mexican Standoff: [+6] Weakened roster will test Smegish’s resolve.

16. Madness Mountain Misery [-5]: Expected more, maybe rusty?

17. Freezy Trees [+11]: ramchop improving, roster going the other way.

18. Autumns Leaves [+1]: Life’s tough for woodies but these guys toil away and are set to explode at some point.

19. Blackwater Glee Club [+1]: Great roster, poor results. Candidate to skyrocket up rankings.

20. Sphinxes From Mars [+3]: Can’t beat the fast guys but a threat to anyone else.

21. Macabre Morticians: Can win with understrength roster on back of tribalsinner.

22. Altered Perception: Grod may yet be a dark elf coach. Team looks like its off to a good start.

23. Griffon Gate Sentinels [+4]: is Carl back or was it just reggies?

24. PMSL [+9]: Looks set to put it together at some point, when?

25. Chaos All Sorts [-3]: Consistently ok.

26. New World Winers And Diners [-1]: Need a bit of luck to go their way.

27. Horror of Skye [-9]: Will be looking to forget the horrors of last season.

28. High Elvis [+4]: Watch out for these guys this season, I see big improvements.

29. Psych Lab [-3]: Just need a fair conference to get going again.

30. Shiny Beast of Thought: New kid on the block impressed, can the Captain keep the roll on?

31. Office Rats [+1]: DDAmAge improving but suffered some damage.

32. Necromantia [+5]: Promoted too quickly and will relish an easier draw.

33. Fatality 101: Going to need some skillz but a solid base.

34. Banner of the Black Stag: Buuface has been quiet, can he make some headlines in conferences?

35. Colour Of Money: Fun and games.

36. More Than Ballgowns: Roster looks good, Bigbullies could be a shot to improve this season.

37. Hostile Kiddies [+1]: Struggling to get going in conferences.

38. Scavengers: Should be proud of their season.

39. Black as Death: How will they cope with conferences?

40. Prancing Unicorns [-5]: Skywalker!

Must Spec Games This Season

Slumbering Skink vs Wanja Warriors – This is probably the biggest rivalry in the league right now. The trash talking has been going on for the better part of a year. Now they meet in round 2 to decide who gets to delude themselves by claiming the title of champion.

Wings of the Condor vs Error 404 – the two most likely teams to challenge the skinks, this game will go a long way to setting up the season.

Madness Mountain Misey vs Urban Nightmare – hopefully they rip into each other.

Daemon Ex Tesserae vs SWL Fun Police – Likely to decide who takes out the conference.

Sotek Sacred Spawning vs Orcs For Correct Spelling – Same as above and should be an interesting spectacle.

SWL Jaegers vs Griffon Gate Sentinels – HEROES shoot out, should be a fun one.

Colour of Money vs Southern Warpstone Scavengers – This winner will take the glory in this one as the stunty kings for the season.

Altered Perception vs Necromantia – possible a view of generation next.

Eau de Toilet vs Sphinxes From Mars – Luo loves playing the foul vs bash war. The spectators love it too!

High Elvis vs Freezy Trees – Mushroomy gets to take his dad to school!

Team Challenge - Season LXV

Despite a small drive to cull the dual citizens we still have enough teams in the 6 factions for a full draw.

Sadly the Reggies usually a hive of activity for Wastepac fixtures, have none. The 3 DIBBL Invaders teams in Reggies have nobody to play against.

Plenty of games. My tip is that the VILLAINS will collect their first Wastepac Trophy. However, if FOUL continue their champ-spoon-champ-spoon yoyo act, then they're due for another title.

SWL Legends LXV

With parkings and many sad deaths, LXIV ended with only 5 living Legendary players in SWL. For the first time ever, we may have more Black Pearls running around than there are active legends.

There are legends in the making waiting in the wings. If these Superstars continue at their current SPP trajectories (and survive through 7 games), there will be three new Legends this season. And perhaps a first, a St1 Legend.

Image Chuhui (Sacred Spawning of Sotek), 215SPP
Image Viola (Wings of the Condor), 208SPP
Image Shntsyeooa (Slumbering Skink), 204SPP
Image Grumnir (Banner of the Black Stag), 193SPP
Image Huge Axeman (Error 404 afterlife not found), 176SPP

New entrants: LXV
Image Llstrr (Slumbering Skink), 176SPP (Round 2)
Image Damien "Shake it off" Halford (Blackwater Glee Club), 178SPP (Round 2)
Image Bolwgan Softrock (Port Macquarie Snowleopards), 176SPP (Round 3)

Updates:
4/6/16 Llstrr makes Legend with a well deserved MVP in the Round 2 victory over the Orcs. The 4th Legend for Slumbering Skink, and their first Saurus to make the grade.
15/6/16 Damien "Shake it off" Halford puts on a brutal display in his first two games of the season and becomes SWL's 50th Legend.
23/6/16 Bolwgan Softrock, a 1 turn TD specialist, becomes SWL's first Strength 1 Legend.

The next two horrors to be added to the "Black Pearl List" are:

Shntsyeooa - Reigning Prem winner with Slumbering Skink.

&

Ubirr III - Former Prem winner with the Wäŋa Warriors.

The Bounty Board has been updated to include these new victims.
That makes a total of 6 players with a price on their head this season, so get out there and hunt them down before somebody else does!

Well, nobody guessed the big announcement!

So the Bob Borc Cup will take place between seasons 65 & 66?
First round losers have an extra long break then?

Only if you're really lucky...

This is correct

Well, yes and then again, perhaps no. We are looking at a smaller round robin style tournament for the first round KO's. We MIGHT even consider a Swiss repechage situation if it gets enough interest...

Another option would to make it a double elimination tournament.

I reckon it's only fair.
