Game 2: Reggiesson's Dark Elf "Killer Heelz"Image

Image

The urge to surf was strong.

I know what elves can do. Sure they can't pass as easily anymore. But it's a blodger, I just know he could dodge in collect the ball and cause me problems.

Yes, the urge to surf was strong. Surely the mind is stronger. Surely the mind knows that to surf this elf means pushing him onto the ball. A ball next to the sideline. A ball which could bounce into the crowd. A crowd who may well decide to hurl it way down to the waiting elves.

It was T13. Winning 1-0. Play sensibly. Ignore that urge. Cover the ball. Don't try to pick it up, for failing that pick up may well give it to that crowd, that vindictive crowd.

... but the urge to surf was strong.

Surfing required 2 go for its (rushes if you must, and you really don't must) with the BOrc, or a 1d block from the goblin. We could fail here too. Failure would be bad.

...but the urge to surf was strong.

And the urge won out over the mind.

Final Score: 2-0 (0/3/0 - 1/0/0)

and look! The BOrcs learned how to punch!

Surfing looked the right play to me too. I thought you would Blitz with the Block in the middle and then use the Goblin as a backstop to block with the adjacent player.

Or grab block him to the sideline. Assist with the 2x gfi BOrc. And 2D blitz him out with the goblin. There are always other options.

Game 3: Wozzaa's Halflings "Munchausen Moonrakers"Image

T15:
Image
Wozzaa is a mighty fine fling coach. But surely even he can't score from this position, right? Three flings left on the field, a solitary tree far far away. It's impossible. Spoiler alert - Sadly, oh so sadly, he scored.

But before we get onto the how. Let's enjoy a bit of Lucker fun. First half, flings drive. BOrcs full on offensive defence. Smash the flings. Stomp Rumblelow out of the game. And pull off some GG magic.

Image
5x dodges, 3x gfi, 2x 4+ ball handles, and a 2+ wiz fail. Magic!

<Wozzaa> GG Luckers

Into the break 1-0 up.

Time for the flings to throw everything at the BOrcs. Chuck a fling at the blodge ball carrier (MNG!). Man up to the BOrcs and hope for a mistake, squish, squish, squish.

By the time T15 rolls around the Luckers have racked up 6 cas with the fist, 1 with the boot.

Let's roll the clock back even further. This match was Tuesday night. Tuesday morning, I tuned into PurpleChest's wonderful podcast. This week, "How to get good at Blood Bowl". Maybe I wasn't paying attention, I was at work, sort of working at the same time. Maybe I should have paid attention. Maybe I subconciously took the lesson instead as "How to get worse at Blood Bowl"

So how did the flings score on T15? Simple really. Goblin greed.
Image

My that is painful to watch. As penance, I shall force myself to watch this gif, again... and again... and again.

They'll return. I keep the smaller logo for between games. I think it makes the team page look nicer. I merely forgot to swap in the full size pitch logo before the last two games.

Great write up. Had me scratching my head at how the flings could score. You forgot to put in a few safety stomps.

Game 4: Dazedmw's Wood Elf "Diminished Leaves"Image

Turn 8.
Sometimes you get presented with a tough decision
Image

A cage breaking Wardancer had slowed the first drive grind enough to mean dice needed to be rolled. No rerolls in the pocket, a failed catch and we go into the half on 0-0.

But, there's a Dancer on the ground. I do have a bribe. Do I risk it?

It's almost guaranteed the goblin will do the feeblest of boots, the bribe will fail and there'll be no hand off for a failed catch anyway.

No, best play it sensible.

But he has Tackle!

No, best play it sensible.... but come on, really, there is no decision here. There are no other options.

Armour Roll [ 1 ][ 1 ]
I told you! Feeblest of boots!
Rolled Total of 2 + 6 Offensive Assists = 8
The armour of Maluvie Akvar has been broken.

Not often that a double one isn't a fail
Injury Roll [ 5 ][ 5 ]
Rolled Total of 10 + 1 Dirty Player = 11

Who needs dirty player anyway?
Maluvie Akvar suffers a casualty.
Yes!
Casualty Roll [ 7 ]
Maluvie Akvar has been seriously injured.
Maluvie Akvar is seriously hurt (Miss next game).
Apothecary used.

Go away Apo
Casualty Roll [ 13 ][ 3 ]
Maluvie Akvar has been seriously injured.
Maluvie Akvar suffered a smashed knee (-1 MA).

Apo gone!
The referee spots the foul and bans Naenae from the game.
Pleeeeease ref! It was the feeblest of boots....
Here, maybe this will help you look the other way

Bribes Roll [ 3 ]
The ref refrains from penalizing Naenae and he remains in the game.

Image

Woot! and the catch...?
Catch Roll [ 5 ]
Waterloo catches the ball.

Of course in real time it was:
"Oof" \o/
"Splat" \o/
"Whistle" yikes
bribe, phew
"Catch" \o/

Half time 1-0

The elves had clearly done something to upset Nuffle. 4x snakes in the first half alone. And the goblin boots worked overtime.

Game 5: buuface's Norse "Banner of the Black Stag"Image

The GGs came into this game alone at the top of the table. Also, sporting most Cas in the group, gone were the pillow fists of our debut season. Looking ahead there was the worry of falling over at the last hurdles against two bash teams. But first we'll smash up these av7 norse and then maybe scrape into Prem after struggling through the final rounds.

Maybe don't look too far ahead, eh? Take each game one at a time.

Over 150 games with Norse you'd think I might know that the sideline is not a safe place to be.
Image
Solid play by the norse, poor play by the Luckers

Half time 0-1

Second half, deep kick in the rain. Blitz!

Thick skull doesn't make goblins invincible.
Image

By turn 3, the norse blodge runner (catcher?, really GW?) collects the ball and stands 3 squares away from a 2-0 victory.

The BOrcs fought back valiantly, but were down to a single goblin and a looong way to run. Things went from unlikely, to not gonna happen pretty quickly. Ball splashed around in the puddles.

Game 6: Sharper's Chaos Dwarf "Bronzed Raiders"Image

I always thought this game would be one for the loss column. However, Wozzaa and his helpful flings went and injured two Guard Chorfs in Round 5. Those flings, true champs!

But then Sharper induced two Merc Chorfs to make up for it. And one of the buggers knocked out my troll. #16
Image

#16. See him there on the list? Nope? That's right Troll decided that zero turns was enough of a contribution this game. Stupid troll.

Chorfs grind to a 1-0 in the first half.

BOrcs lose the ball in the second.

But a glimmer of hope on turn 16.

Image

It may look hopeless.

Ye of little faith.

These are the Luckers we're talking about here.

This is a Chirstmas Gifworthy moment.

The BOrc will dodge pick it up and pass to the waiting goblin in the endzone.

Yes, unlikely. But the crowd!

Fall on the ball, a scatter into the crowd!
1 in 3 for direction
8 for distance.
Catch

Easy

Game 7: Balle2000's Nurgle "Black Lagoon Go-Go Bar"Image

3 wins, then a draw, followed by two losses. Is there a trend developing here?

There was a bit going on coming into this game. The way the other results fell, meant that a win would secure the Luckers a spot in Prem as the 2nd best 2nd (five go up in total from the 3 conferences). A draw would mean that I have to revisit that awful awful gif from the fling game as the reason I failed.

Two expensive mistakes rolls between the last game and the redraft. Sitting on 265k I spent a bit of time pondering just what I needed next season. Deciding that even with the worst fans and the worst EM rolls I could still splash out on a 4th reroll, and so I did.

B2k kept his cash to splash out in game. Me splurging on a 4th reroll meant he could more easily spend up large on a wizard.

So let's jump straight to the wizard. GG's grinding up field pretty well. T6 time for Nurgle to pull the trigger.....
Image
2+ on the ball carrier failed
<ramchop> woot!

Image
<ramchop> unwoot
That goat was out of range, luckily he didn't catch it.
BOrcs scampered at full stretch to cover the ball. They succeeded.

Half Time 0-0

Nurgle drive. The GGs continued to chip away at their numbers. Then a key moment, let the goblins blitz
Image

Eventually a goblin collected the ball and scurried away from the diminishing Nurgle squad.

Turn 15
The new 4th reroll had been spent along the way so I had to be careful.
Ball carrier in range? <check>
Ball carrier protected from a push back? <check>
Only threat forced to dodge? <check>
Ball carrier protected from a sweep around the back.... <errrr>

I'll put it down to mental fatigue

After a two week break, it's time for the Luckers to strap on their boots again. Rebuy was easy, agents fees don't kick in for a few seasons, and the GGs decided not to throw a big expensive party to celebrate making it to the big time.

GG Luckers - the first Black Orc team to make it to the SWL Premiership \o/

Who are we up against?:

SWL XCI Premier

Image Gits and Shiggles (BeefyGoodness) 1460k (6/2/6)
Image Bronzed Raiders (Sharper) 1440k (8/3/2)
Image Ostland Horns (GreySquirrel) 1440k (7/2/4)
Image Dirrty Duzzin (Bobs) 1410k (10/2/2) Image
Image Styx and Warpstones (JPM) 1270k (7/3/4)
Image Ophidian Infidels (Miyuso) 1480k (7/0/4)
Image Turbo Wolves (JamesDSF) 1580k (9/2/3)

Quite a bit of bash in there. It'll be a big ask to be the first Black Orc team to stay in Prem, let alone win it.

Game 1: BeefyGoodness's Old World Alliance "Gits and Shiggles"Image

Old World Alliance. They have dorfs, goblinses hate dorfs.

But then in turn 2....
Drunker Git blocks Thorndon:
Block Roll [ BOTH DOWN ] [ PUSHBACK ]
Drunker Git blocks Thorndon:
Re-Rolled Block Dice [ PUSHBACK ]
Drunker Git re-rolled 1 block die using Brawler.
Block Roll [ PUSHBACK ] [ PUSHBACK ]
Block Result [ PUSHBACK ]

What's that... a reroll? I checked the log, then saw the brawler. What? These guys don't have block? Goblinses will like that.

And what's that? No tackle?... Arm Bar! hahahaa Arm Bar. Funny, that's not a real dorf.

Image

hahahaa Arm Bar

Final Score: 0-2 (0/0/0 - 3/1/0)

Prem is hard.

Game 2: Sharper's Chaos Dwarf "Bronzed Raiders"Image

Turn 6:
Image

<ramchop> this is horrific

When you live in a sparsely populated timezone and mainly play in League, you will play against the same people a lot. This is great for community building, and rivalries. But there are some encounters that you come into with a sense of dread.

8/7/19 was my record against Sharper. A very good coach at the controls of solid tier 1 teams.

While it was nice to cast aside the pillow fists of Round 1 (two Raiders in casualty), the somewhat suspect Av9 of the BOrcs remained and at Turn 6 I had 2 Black orcs and the Troll unconscious. Plus my sneaky git had snuck off. When you're down on numbers it's often wise to score quickly, but my cage had stalled, and the guards had closed in.

What to do? Trust in the proven 4+ dodging ability of the Luckers!

Image

Half time 1-0

The Chorfs ground their way to a T14 score. While numbers were even, it was 7 vs 7 at that stage and delaying the TD any longer could have caused them problems. So we had 3 turns to win it.

Turn 16. Two scoring options for the Chorfs to defuse. Blitz the screen and mark the Troll, skirt around the screen and mark the forward goblin. Solidly defended, but still a chance there.

Trust in the Troll!

Image

Another immensely enjoyable game.
