I played my first fumbbl game today and although I lost it went vey well. I played High Elf, opponent was Underworld

My opponent told me to roll random skills on my two linemen that had 4 SPP. One got block and the other got shadowing. Is random skills really the best thing to do with linemen? Shadowing seems pretty lame and now it feels like a waste of a lineman.

What about other positions? I have 3 SPP on a catcher, should I do random?

Just looking for some High Elf level up advice. Thanks!

Hello and welcome to FUMBBL!

I suggest to choose the skills.
On linelves either you choose the skill at 6 SPPs or, if you don't have enough SPPs, don't take a random skill, just wait for 6 SPPs.
On the Catcher wait for 6 SPPs and pick either Dodge or Block;
On linelves choose either Wrestle, Block, Dodge or Kick;
On Blitzers Dodge then either Tackle or Side Step;
On Thrower either Leader if you can't buy the third rr or Block or Dodge.

Randomizing the skills can be ok if:

- you have cheap linemen (so, not the HE case);
- you can fire them and re-buy in case the random skill is not a good one.

For example: you could randomize a skill on a Zombie at 3 SPPs because he's cheap and easy to replace, but randomizing a skill on a HE lino just bloats him if it's not a good one and you can't even easily replace him due to his cost.

I wouldn't often take randoms on expensive elves, but your rolls are fine. A Block elf for 10k is great and Mr/Mrs Shadowing now has a role on the line of scrimmage until they die

Seems like you've experienced the joy and pain of random skills in one game.
On the one hand, you have a block lino, at a discount a game early than otherwise.
On the other hand, you have a less useful skill adding some TV.
I think you've done well with the random rolls there 👍

I would rejoice. Your TV went up 20k, you got a Block lineman, Shadowing sucks but is better than nothing and occasionally hilarious, and you can stick your Shadowing player in harm's way without fear.

Until you get a kicker, I'd continue getting random general first skills on the linos, then saving up for chosen skills on good ones and stat rolls for the Shadowing or whatever.
