I certainly do most of these things - my cr is inflated by playing Chorfs (or at least, not playing bad teams, for the most part), and hiring Bomber, fouling and not hiring apo (which are clearly fair, in my opinion). I'd say my "fake" cr is about 15-20, since I think my real cr is 155-160.
But I think Rawlf said it best: your fake CR is actually -17, because if you imposed those rules on yourself, you (might) fall 17 CR. The rules are the rules, and CR as a system simply represents those rules. Chrisdekok-CR would represent some other set of rules that you might want to play by. I'm sure many other players would love to implement their own rules for CR (although I won't name any).
So I'd say my real CR is 170, although at the moment it's only that since I'm on a winstreak, but my "skill level" is more like 155. But I would argue against no-apo teams being a part of the CR vs Skill Level idea. Building your team well is part of your skill. Personally, I think I manage skills well in 2020, and so my team has lower tv than it might otherwise. Is that cheating-adjacent, or otherwise unfair? I don't think so; I think it's being good at blood bowl, just in a weird way. |

Many good points in the last posts.
I agree with Tussock and The Murker that part of being a good coach is recognising what is a bad or a good match setup.
I play in the box though so my unfair matches cannot be declined 
No coach with a CR of 160+ would accept those kind of games.
About CR being important or not I agree that CR isn't everything but I'm happy there is a ranking system even if it has flaws.
For me personally it makes playing random matches outside of any league or tournament more exciting if I set up some long term goals for myself. Right now I'm trying to achieve highest fake CR, when I tire of that I might go back to something more important like Throne of Blood or having as many players as possible on the fouling toplist.
And Astrolonim, finally a challenger for the highest fake CR!
Maybe we should meet in a totally fair match
And she who is the best, I'm sure I will win (ie lose the match). |

Is fouling not fair because its worded as fouling and not cuddling ?
Do all undead teams play unfair as they get no apo ? |

Why does not hiring an apo crop up on people’s list of ‘unfair’ practices? I guess it’s about lowering TV, but it seems like a simple preference thing. |

Fouling is among the best and funniest part of Blood Bowl in my opinion.
But clearly it's controversial from the in game reactions I sometimes get.
I try to divide these critical coaches in three broad groups.
Noobs who have played few games, to them I just point out that fouling is part of the game and ignore further anger/insults.
Cry babies who have played hundreds or even thousands of games and still don't accept fouling, ignore and would like to avoid playing in future if it was possible.
Smart coaches who is playing a mind game to try to get an advantage in the game. I especially remember one game where the opponent really got into my head about how sad he was to be fouled so I didn't foul his surrounded big guy. Next turn he promptly blitzed me and destroyed one of my players.
Then he admitted he just fooled me 
That's great and was really funny. |
