Yup, I read the official one years ago and it helped quite a bit. Particularly for learning what certain skills do.

Now any 2020 stuff I'm still learning about I tend to just Google when it becomes relevant in any match I'm in.

Please, please go here and join the 145 club. This site has many very good coaches, and if you just jump into C you will lose, and you will lose a lot. There's a lot to learn from losing, but while you are still getting your bearings on how to play the game, you should play there.

Also, if you use discord, join the 145 discord (there is a link to the discord on the page I linked), where people will be happy to help you learn both blood bowl and this site.

I'd suggest to read this post https://fumbbl.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&p=769986
It's not directly about the rules but more about getting started with fumbbl

And another vote for the 145 club that Drrek mentioned

One thing I've always loved about this site is how welcoming people are to newcomers - keep up the good work guys.

Normal Orcs are the most forgiving team in the game. There are quite a number of "correct" ways to start them, build them, and play them, so you can learn a lot about your own tendencies on them. They're not literally the strongest roster, either in terms of ST score or win rate, but they're very close on both counts; most coaches would rate them highly for open or league play, and they're quite viable in tournament formats, though I wouldn't say "play Orcs" amounts to anything like a dominant strategy.

Black Orcs have a lot of cool tricks they can pull, and it's a good thing because otherwise they're terrible.I can't recommend them to a new coach, and the idea that the 2020 edition boxed set comes with two of the most difficult teams in the game seems sadistic to me. They don't have a blitzer or any good carriers, which makes them just an incredibly difficult team to learn the game on. They do have some really nifty assets, but even those are often problematic, as Stunty, Brawler, Grab, Throw Teammate ... all that stuff is potent but unreliable.

Start with normal Orcs. It's much easier being green. Sorry, Kermit.
