What am I missing here?
The problem I had with TV matching were the sharks with ultra optimized 1100-1200TV teams 5 seasons in sharking game 3 teams. Christer fixed that with the BBT protection; after that BB has felt fine.
Unless the argument is that stats being cheaper makes TV matching worse? | A lot of teams in this edition are designed deliberately to skew high or low in TV. Dwarfs are a good example of a team that just kind of has to float to be effective: they now punch at the weight of their age, not their value, and what's more, they do better as underdogs than as equals, too. This has been true going the other way for Stunty teams for awhile now, but now it's going to just be a thing for many teams. |

Was that 7 home and away? |
Yeah '20 Rulebook said 8 player league home and away, '25 says 8 player league play each other once. |

Sure, but thats a limited example specific to a few teams. If we match based on number of games you are going to have a much bigger problem of teams that have taken significant injuries getting matched a massive TV deficit. That is going to happen at a pretty high rate.
You could argue that the stars will make that up, but BB trophy is the largest base of BB users (at least last i checked, its been a few months). Star players eat SPP. Seems like a recipe for an exceptionally lame steel gauntlet. |

That's what I'm saying, it's not a few teams anymore, it's baked into the cake now. |

Yeah, this shit feels trifling. I havent had anything close to the fun of league with in any matchmaking rolling redrafted skaven with a few tries now. 4 games, same 2 coaches, same 2 human teams, same shit, same waste of time even if brief.
It really does feel like shit that trying to get back into BB, its like the only enjoyable format for me is one where half the point is developing teams and not starting with some half baked redraft against a more cogent g7+ team. Ill keep trying but I dont especially look forward to trying when kmow NCBB and NBFL games wont be such unfun masturbatory flexes for the other coach.
And I never stopped playing league so maybe Im spoiled that even in losing efforts, there is some meta hope there, a new season in league is actually really hopeful, this is dismal shit - and look, i have never enjoyed BB below a certain TV with some developement bit this is excessive. This shit is desolate playing the same 2 coaches in my tz with better teams and basically providing every gameplay incentive in the course of whooping ass, to never willingly play them if you can avoid them. Whats the point with these teams that whatever my wisdom, feel like uncompetitive dogshit at 1200 tv so far.
Honestly, am I off base that constant restarts rather than redrafts are better for some teams? Id honestly prefer that to these crapshoots so far, especially where I feel like it was a waste of time to even try given the carnage making a mockery of some redraft choices. |

In BB 2025 you can nominate the MVP, so you don't risk to waste those SPPs on Star Players. |

I think the idea was that if you have star players, your own players score less touchdowns and get less casualties because you only use the star player for scoring and blitzing, rather than MVPs? |

I think this is atavistic thinking looking for a justification. The "Stars are SPP sinks" milk is spoiled, just throw it out and try to get your TD with someone else. |

Trying to replicate actual team seasons through team age-matching, rather than the eternal-one-off-game-format-with-periodic-redrafts experience that results from TV-matching, should inherently be a slight nudge in the direction of unspoiling that milk anyway!
TV-matching incentivises single-game thinking, both in-game and in team building decisions, rather than thinking about your decisions within the context of a season. If you choose to get less skills on your actual players, a TV-based scheduler rewards you with a different next game. An age-based one says you're getting the same opponent anyway, so make whatever long-term/short-term trade-offs you want on that basis. It's actual decision-making! |

It's not even that. Say you're thinking about a single game, it's game #3, and in game #2 you got plenty of cash and Cas on two separate Orc Linemen. Now you've got two 11/36 shots at Block or Wrestle (d12, 2 hits, reroll), and frankly, with Taunt on the Big 'Uns, Fend and Taunt are suddenly pretty good hits. If you also kinda like Tackle, Dauntless, Steady Footing, and Pro, now you're 8/9 to have a decent skill on each of two players. Given that Frenzy and Kick are at least funny, your chance of "snaking" on Strip Ball or Sure Hands is 1/36.
Well, in TV matchmaking, this is 25/36 of a bad idea. Yeah, okay, 24 of those 25 aren't catastrophic, but what are you doing to yourself? In a seasonal matchmaking, this is 8/9 of a good idea, with a 1/12 chance of being funny. Yes, your TV floats, but how much, really? The only part of inducements that got noticeably better was the bit about Prayers, but we've already established you don't need the money that badly, and can just drop 30k on prayers. Maybe the underdog now has a dilemma: take the prayers, or let them slide and get a small inducement with the balance?
Like many products, this one gets so much better if you use it as intended. |

With enough gold to replace the Orc Linemen it's not even a dilemma.
You randomize the G skills, if you don't like them just fire & replace.
If you can't afford to replace the Orc Linemen in case of bad random skill then just wait, save the SPPs and pick either Block or Wrestle when possible (considering the S access on them, Block is better).
I don't see such an awesome strategic planning or dilemma in that. |

I don't see such an awesome strategic planning or dilemma in that. | That's not as true now that every overdog game, regardless of margin, costs 30k. You really have to look at this ruleset organically: it's a forest, not a bunch of trees. |

If it's a scheduled league I know in advance my opponent and I should see whether I'm the overdog or not.
If it's a blind matchmaking then I can't know in advance my opponent, so, how can I know that I will be the overdog in my next game?
Ok, the higher my TV gets, the higher the chance to be an overdog, but I can't be sure of it in blind matchmaking.
As far as I understood, in case of Orcs I would nominate 2 Blitzers, 2 Big Uns, 2 Throwers or 1 Thrower and the Troll.
Orc Linemen should not get a nomination, or not that often.
So, I don't think I will focus on skilling Orc Linemen (if they should get SPPs, I would adopt the strategy above, 2 posts ago).
I have more return from skilling the positionals up. |
