I know I was away from the game for a long time, and I am trying to get caught up on all the changes, but this one is really baffling me.
What is the purpose of this mechanic? I played an undead team for 15 games, couldn't afford to keep either Mummy. Now have a team basically ripped to shreds. Is this in the spirit of a competitive environment. You just lose players that you spent time skilling up for no reason? Players are not allowed to be more than 15 games old unless they are tournament play only. I am sure there is a perfectly good reason for all of this but apparently, I am unable to see the pitch through the trees.
Someone dumb this down for me and make it make sense please. Thanks. |

I think the idea is that—generally speaking—the game is more manageable and balanced when teams are ~1400 TV. Players mostly can't get too crazy, and teams won't accrue so many skills that it becomes unreasonable for an opponent to wrap their brain around it. So, as your team develops, it will grow all season, and at the end of the season, it gets re-budgeted: You can keep any player you want—likely several—but you can't keep all the players you want, so you have to make tough choices. This, in turn, means that there will be turnover of players, which is pretty healthy for everyone. Also, keeping teams from easily developing to 1800+ TV means that more teams in a division are more appropriately matched. |

Because I had to retire my mummies and now have no treasury, I will have to wait several games to accumulate money in order to afford even one let alone two. Arguably one of the strongest pieces on the team and I will have to go a minimum or half of the 15 games season without one. Seems counter intuitive to playing a competitive game. |

Maybe the interface was a bit confusing...? When you redrafted the team, you should have had the opportunity to spend your budget on new Mummies. Trading out that Jump Up Ghoul for a Mummy probably would have been ideal. |

It said zero budget. Maybe I kept too many skilled players, but it forced me to make a squad of 11 players and the only money I had to spend just bought enough zoms. And the only way I got there was by firing all coaches, fans and cheerleaders.

Yeah, I'm also a coach who's more of a 'builder', and it can be a bummer. The days of having a whole squad of Superstar players are over, for the time-being (in C, at least). You have to choose just 3 or 4 developed players that you want to keep and replace the rest with rookies. |

It makes much more sense when you remember Blood Bowl was never designed for this kind of eternal environment with 100s of coaches and 1000s of teams, or even the sort of mega leagues with multiple tiers that self-balance by pro/rel that we and Cyanide have. It's built for the tabletop hobby where the average league might have 6-8 regular players at best in a local shop, that needs a balancing mechanism to keep teams in rough parity besides just peer pressuring the guy with a 2000tv team to roll a new one.
Now, the ONE issue I take with the idea in this regard, is the MOUNTING resigning fee per season a player stays. I believe a bit extra to resign is fair for the advantage a skilled player has, but asking more and more per season kills keeping that special player that makes a name for himself, and most physical leagues I know houserule it to just a flat resigning fee or forgo the fee altogether and just use the TV of the player unmodified. |

So once a team gets to the 15-game threshold in competitive, the two options are redrafting or using them for tournaments only? Am I understanding this correctly? |

Yeah, whether you're a fan of the system or not, that is the system working as intended. You can normally keep a handful of veteran players, or you can keep one or two superstar, multi-skilled players. But apart from that you start with an all-rookie team again.
(You can buy less re-rolls of course, and then build them through the next season if you want. That might let you keep an extra member or two of the old guard.) |

Also don't forget to fire a bunch of unskilled linemen (or positionals) and rebuy them, as keeping them means you pay extra even though they haven't got a skill |

Seems you also rehired all your old noskill zombied (its 20k per player to keep for no reason)
Usually when you redraft you keep like 3-4 nice players and start new season (in competitive)
If you like big teams and team history maybe look into leagues that offer this ?
Personally i dont understand why people who like big old teams complain that competitive division doesnt offer this. Division what should be more about competition(?) rather tham roleplaying ? |

Did you have any treasury? It's definitely a gotcha that you need to have treasury at the end of the season because it adds to your budget. If you're not aware of the system and have 0 then your budget will be low. |

With a greater understanding of the purpose behind it, I can see why it happens. The whole thing happening without prior knowledge is what blindsided me. I also had a hefty treasury prior to game 14 and spent it all for a bit of cheeky fun. (Bought a Star for a difficult matchup.) Now with all the knowledge, next time this happens I will be prepared. Thank everyone for the info. Cheers |

Wasn't complaining about the division friend, I was strictly complaining about my lack of knowledge and the lack of information regarding the new (to me) feature. |
