So why did they remove the ban in the 3rd edition? |

what ban? HMP is a long bomb now, rather than an unranged pass. Since it's a long bomb, it's officially longer than a short pass, so you can't do it in a Blizzard. In old editions, it had no range bracket, so didn't interact with the Blizzard rules. |

In the second season :
| Quote: | | When this player performs a Pass action (or a Throw Bomb action), the target square can be anywhere on the pitch and the range ruler does not need to be used. A Hail Mary pass is never accurate, regardless of the result of the Passing Ability test it will always be inaccurate at best. A Passing Ability test is made and can be re-rolled as normal in order to determine if the Hail Mary pass is wildly inaccurate or is fumbled. A Hail Mary pass cannot be interfered with. This Skill may not be used ina Blizzard. |
in the third :
| Quote: | | When this player performs a Pass Action or a Throw Bomb Special Action, they may declare any square on the pitch as the target square rather than using the Range Ruler. Make a Passing Ability Test as normal, treating the throw as a Long Bomb, and treating any result of an Accurate Pass as an Inaccurate Pass. A Hail Mary Pass cannot be Intercepted. |
They removed "This Skill may not be used ina Blizzard."
i m not sure that your explanation explain it clearly. or maybe i don't understand it well |

If you can't throw a long bomb, then you can't throw an HMP. If you can throw a long bomb, you can throw an HMP.
This also means that Cannoneer works to help your HMP pass roll. |

For me:
What does Blizzard say? “When a player performs a Pass Action, they may only attempt a Quick Pass or a Short Pass”
→ So, first of all, you need to be able to “measure” / “count the squares” to make sure the pass is within that limit.
→ It therefore limits the players’ maximum passing range to those two categories (effectively “depriving” them, so to speak, of the other two).
Now, what does Hail Mary Pass say?
“When this player performs a Pass Action [...] they may declare any square [...] instead of using the range ruler.”
→ So there is no need to check the range (which makes it difficult to “limit” it to the range categories defined by Blizzard, since there is no range check).
→ It removes all maximum passing-range limits.
So, “for me”, purely in terms of the rules: yes. |

@Vomitot:
Ah, but they may only attempt a Quick Pass or a Short Pass.
That doesn't include Long Bombs, and a Hail Mary is a Long Bomb.
But it also doesn't include this category of "unranged passes" that you kinda just made up, because it's definitely not a Quick Pass or Short Pass, irrespective of distance. For a pass to be Quick or Short, the Range Ruler must indicate this, and that demands a measurement. Therefore, an unmeasured pass, if that were a range category (it's not, but it used to be before 2020 edition), can't be attempted in a Blizzard.
So, whether the pass is a Long Bomb (per the plain language reading) or an unranged pass (erroneous), the answer would be no. You'd have to argue that the pass was Quick or Short, but the definitions for those are on the Range Ruler, and HMP is extremely clear about how those conditions could never apply (the Range Ruler is not used, and the pass is always a Long Bomb: both of these conditions are exclusive of a Quick or Short pass, or in the former case, presumptively exclusive, but in theory negatable with text that both doesn't exist and is directly contravened by the Long Bomb bit ... oh, and it's a hallucination).
My guess is that they removed the sentence because it would have been extraneous. Possibly it was a layout or formatting consideration, possibly they just thought the rules would be more concise with one less redundancy. There's no reasonable interpretation of Blizzard and Hail Mary that would result in an affirmative response, so I don't think they felt the need to clarify it. |

mmmh. it says "Make a Passing Ability Test as normal treating the throw as a Long Bomb", not that trhe HMP IS a Long Bomb.
The quivalence, as far as my comprehension of English goes, limits the difficulty of the HMP, not treating the HMP as a special kind of Long Bomb. Otherwise it would have been explained clearly.
this is nottinghamshire trolling |

Even with that reasoning, It's still not Quick or Short. It's either a LB or of no specified range. |

Indeed, this is a point |

Also, to say that X is "treated as" Y, means that you interact with X as though it were Y in all cases, even if we understand that it's really not. So if it's treated as a Long Bomb, that means Blizzard interacts with it as though it were a Long Bomb. Fortunately for us, Blizzard takes an inclusive approach to the types of pass allowed rather than disallowing Long Bomb specifically, so the conversation never quite gets there, but if the wording on Blizzard did read, "Long Passes and Long Bombs are not permitted," that would simply serve to trigger "treated as a Long Bomb."
So, doubly no. I stand by my original point. It might not be a LB, but treated as has the same consequences. It's just that that's moot. It most definitely does not get considered a Quick Pass or Short Pass by any extant mechanism (I hope we're all agreed on that), and that answers the real question. |
