Secret League 2020 Update - Breathe Fire and Iron Hard Skin
Secret League 2020 Update October 2024

With the release of the new Chaos Dwarf roster, the addition of the new skill Breathe Fire and the update to Iron Hard Skin. As well as the addition of M access to Bull Centaurs. I have made the following changes to the existing rosters in line with these changes. There is also the addition of Sneaky Stabbas - which has caused me quite a headache, because this is without doubt one of the worst designed players in the game!!! But more on this later... (read at the very bottom for Stabba news)

FYI - these changes are live!

Iron Hard Skin

Albion
The Woad Beserkers gain Iron Hard Skin. This is to represent their tribal Woad Tattoos which gives them a feel no pain ability. I always wanted this represented in the team and now we have a skill that represents feel no pain to a certain extent I have added it to the roster. I have increased their cost by 10k as well. This theme of magical tribal tattoos or woad tattoos meaning Iron Hard Skin will be consistent throughout the rosters for verisimilitude, as you will see as you read on.

I have also used this opportunity to remove Treemen from this roster. The reason they were added was because there is Blood Bowl lore specifically stating human teams from this region use Treemen big guys. However After trying this out since 2020 launched I feel that having a Treeman over a Fen Beast detracts from the teams themes/aesthetic set out in the Warhammer book set in Albion Dark Shadows. The Fen Beast is so iconic and their lore states the Fen Beasts are psychically linked via their internal Waystone to the Truth Sayer that summoned them. When I adapted this team for Blood Bowl I stated in the "Background" that you the head coach are the Truth Sayer.

Fen Beast costs has been increased to 130k. This was reduced to 120k to encourage their selection over the Treemen, but with the remove of Treemen this is no longer a concern. So they have the correct pricing now.

Black Dwarves
There is no change here. I decided not to give this Chaos Dwarf sub faction Iron Hard Skin as they have a different lore and no magic type players in their roster unlike the Chaos Dwarves from the Zharr-Naggrund region. Though I did update their Special Rules so they now have Badlands Brawl and Hashut Keywords.

Forest Goblins
Savage Orcs gain Iron Hard Skin - This represents tribal tattoos which I always wanted to represent feel no pain as previously mentioned.

Savage Orcs
Linemen, Blocker and Blitzer all gain Iron Hard Skin representing tribal Tattoos

Northern Nippon
The Turtlemen/Kappa have Iron Hard Skin already. The rule change to IHS is a significant boost to this already Tier 1 team, as a result of IHS getting substantially better I decided to drop the Turtlemen's Av to 9+ so playing against the team isn't such an NPE, I have added Thick Skull. So the cost remains the same. The result of this change ultimately means Turtlemen are not good targets for fouling. However they should suffer more armour breaks, which also allows Mighty Blow to work on injury rolls still.

Breathe Fire

Daemons of Tzeentch
Flamers of Tzeentch - gain Breathe Fire

Hill Goblin Teams
Fire Kobold - Remove Secret Weapons and Bombardier. Gains Breathe Fire

Ogre Kingdoms
Fire Belly - gains Breathe Fire

Fire Elementals
Fire Elemental Incarnate gains Breathe Fire

Other Changes

Centigor Teams
Centigors gain M access on doubles. This is a change I fundamentally disagree with because Bull Centaurs and Centigors were considered to have been gifted their forms by the gods of Chaos and not susceptible to further Mutation. This design principle was consistent through the official teams and therefor Secret League. As Bull Centaurs have now been given M access I have also give Centigors M access on doubles for consistency and verisimilitude, which is one of the key design principles of SL.

Favoured of Hashut
All teams with Favoured of ... meaning they can choose their god now have the option to select Hashut at team creation... these include:
Beastmen Teams, Centigor Teams, Fimir Teams, Hung Teams, Kurgan Teams, Minotaur Teams

The following teams change their special rule to Badlands Brawl. This is because Hobgoblins have been designated Badland Brawl star players. The previously had the option to align them selves with a chaos god. This was so they would have access to the same Star Players as Chaos Dwarf, however now that the Chaos Dwarf team is released the Hobgoblin stars are in Badland Brawl and I can remove the Hobgoblin's chaos allegiance, which I was never happy with. These two teams have Badland Brawl Special Rule now:
Hobgoblin Teams, Hobgoblin Slavers

Sneaky Stabbas
Sneaky Stabbas have been added to the official Chaos Dwarf roster, these are clearly a nod to Sneaky Gits... the Hobgoblin unit from 4th Edition Warhammer Fantasy Battle. Which sadly steps on the toes of the Sneaky Gits from the Hobgoblin and Hobgoblin Slavers teams from Secret League. The problem is Sneaky Stabbas are one of the worst designed player in the history of
Blood Bowl. They are expensive because they utterly worthless in terms of what they bring to the team, so they will never see play unless the coach is new and doesn't know better, or if someone is desperate to use them for fluff reasons. I have decided to ignore Sneaky Stabbas. Typically I adjust players in line with official changes. But because this player has been designed so poorly I will ignore it and keep Sneaky Gits in the 2 aforementioned rosters as a separate positional. That said... I am adjusting the existing Secret League Sneaky Git a little as they're proving too effective at very low TV due to the efficacy of Sneaky Git this edition. The new stat line for Sneaky Gits will be:

0-2 6 3 3+ 5+ 8+ 80k GA S
Stab, Sneaky Git, Side Step

This does also mean they are dropping to 0-2 in the Slavers team, which is a nerf to that team, which was needed, they were able to foul too freely as they had 4 Gits to run around with, having 2 on the pitch max means you will have to be a little more selective when fouling as they are also your best way of carrying the ball. I also did not like that the Slavers team had more Sneaky Gits then the Hobgoblin team, which is the team/race most famous for cheating. So this change aligns the lore too.

NEW ROSTERS

There are a bunch of new rosters very close to being released... More information on these VERY soon. There will be 2 batches though, after these 2 batches of rosters have been released there will be no new SL team as every race and sub faction will have been covered...

have fun :)

I like the idea of using Iron Hard Skin to represent the Tribal Tattos.
As an aside, I'd like Iron Hard Skin on Troll Slayers too (to represent Grimnir's Tattoos).
Breathe Fire added to the rosters is nice too, gives flavour to them and makes the players more unique.

Great work! :)

Troll Slayers wont get tribal Tattoos as they're not on the official roster...

Maybe in the next official Dwarf update they might ... but who knows :)

Yes, it wasn't a request for SL Slayer roster, just a wish of mine. :)
According to the fluff it would make sense.

Glad NN got a little more volatile and Albion a little less.
Any thought to the tribal tattoo logic for Kurnous?

My favorite change here though is fire elementals getting breath fire. They were by far the weakest of the elements because mass frenzy is a negatrait (khorne *cough*). But Breath Fire means you can substitute the 2nd block with a BF attempt and avoid an unfavorable follow up. They still aren't better than water or earth, but they should be much easier to coach now.

NN got (slightly) nerfed?
Champagne!

Carthage - Only the Incarnate gains that ability iirc. I think it should apply to all, but it specifies only the Incarnate big guy.
