“OWCC Cup Final

uzkulak was fielding the dwarf team for the last time (certainly for the moment) in the OWCC and it was an honour to play in the OWCC final against a team with so much glorious history in the OWCC.

On form, uzkulak was 0-2 vs the Wasters, and we were looking to make it 3-0, especially as we had failed so miserably in previous OWCC Cups.

The ref tossed up, and we chose to receive. The dwarves set up a compact defence, but the very first blitz by superstar pesti - Mivott Bileguzzler - saw superstar dwarf Elder Tarquin KO'd on the first turn. Doomoor the Dead, star warrior, not to be outdone, did the same to Tomdrok Halfbeard. And that was pretty much all the casualties the claw laden Nurgle side could do for quite a while. We did note the special play card sat in the hands of the dwarven coach, but we tried not to worry about it for the moment...

Crima Clovenhoof, the other superstar pesti had the ball firmly in his hands and was looking to add to his rushing stats.

It wasn't until turn 5/5 that the dwarf defenders suddenly realised they needed to start making their blocks count as the Nurgle armour had been sturdy until superstar dwarf Lord Waldrun KO'd rookie Grakk Foamsplutter III... and then the Beast Putrid Boil was Ko'd too... and the ball carrier was marked. But the Nurgles ran in comfortably for a TD in turn 5/6.

The Nurgle Ko's both returned, and the dwarven duo sat it out. Before the dwarven team could receive, the crowd launched rocks KO'ing a rotter and stunning a dorf. The dwarves made steady gains into the nurgle half, but not before Mivott Bileguzzler BH'd the dwarf Red Line.

With the ball carrying Moleface marked along with his colleague Young Pretender, the nurgle side had a chance of stopping the score. Suddenly a Custard Pie was launched into Mivott Bileguzzler's face, and Moleface simply trotted in for the equaliser, with the bearded fans frothing their mugs of brew in celebration.

For the second half, crucially, the dwarven KO's were still haunted by the stench of the Nurgle side and remained off the pitch whereas only a rookie rotter missed the kick off for the nurgles.

By turn 2/2 the two teams were still slugging it out on the LoS, but the 10 dwarves remained defiant as they tried rolling the nurgle defence, switching the ball from side to side, and by turn 5/4 they were still there! A crucial blow was struck as the dorfs KO'd Mivott Bileguzzler, the only real tackle threat the blodging ball carrier.

Davinra the Desperate, the emerging star warrior saw this and quickly put things right as he KO'd star dwarf Gatekeeper Kurgak. It was getting desperate for the dwarves... they needed some good dice to make the breakthrough.

Unfortunately for the stumpies, Nuffle had other ideas... as Deathwish the dwarf Troll Slayer snaked a gfi when trying to blitz the immense Hrand Threehorns. The ball carrier was left exposed, but the big question was, would blodge save him?
The first 2d block was both pushbacks, but there were still two blockers left to go... but Davinra the Desperate saved the nurgle blushes and smashed Moleface off the pitch (BH) and the ball was spilt on to the floor on turn 6/6. Things we definitely in favour of the nurgle team now.

Crima Clovenhoof smoothly picked up the ball, but diced with nuffle as he failed his 2nd gfi, but was saved by a well kept reroll. Of course immediately afterwards a rotter on the other side of the pitch double-skulled.

Despite Lord Rapacious's desperate marking of Crima, Crima simply pushed him away and ran in for a turn 7/7 TD. 2-1 and effectively game over.

It was an epic final, but there were some big dice rolls in there... the 2 non-returning dwarf KO's vs a full nurgle team was in my opinion the one that swung it... making the snaked gfi by the troll slayer later almost a side issue... remembering of course he would have to have rolled Dauntless to achieve a 1db against Hrand, and I suspect there would have been dicey rolls there too.

According to uzkulak, the Diseased Wasters have now taken over from the Barak Varr Goldlords as the team opponents least want to face - a compliment indeed!
