The Last Knockings team is a "Greatest Misses" roster of sorts. The coach is painfully aware of his failed teams and lost players and decided to do something about it.

A necromancer was hired and many ex players, dead or merely injured into retirement, were visited and persuaded to join the newly formed Undead team. Of course the deceased had little choice in the matter. The ones who were alive took a little more convincing.

No former players of Las Shamblas, another Undead team who share the same coach, were "recruited" however. That'd just be perverse.
