Lupino - FUMBBL Hall of Fame Player

Gary Gygax Reminisces About Lupino

I could start saying that this is the only player I really miss on what remain, anyway, just a game. But I really missed the little gobbo. Lots of fun hours played with him and his team. That was my first orc team too on fumbbl and what a strange orc team! Maybe one of the very few orc teams averaging more than 2 TDs a game and yes, more TDs than casualties!!! :DDD Ogre with pro and pass and nerves of steel!!! (once it worked even with TTM), black orcs with pass block, diving tackler blitzers, speedy gobbos and, of course, Lupino. Lupino's first 3 skill rolls were just amazing, +ag, +ag, +st!!! So I started to throw him everywhere and I tried to skill my Ogre in order to "serve" the little high-flyer as best as he could. Lupino aged with ag and st decreased late in his career, but he was skilled enough to continue to glide (leap too, but that was his last skill roll and I will talk about it next). My crazy orcs lacking hurting skills just played elves or fast teams (don't accuse me about cherrypicking, remember this team has MORE TD THAN CAS and a losing record), because I really wanted them to score fast and have the ball to throw immediately Lupino next turn! When I realized he could become the best scorer ever I simply played only for him, I admit ;) and.. the glorious day arrived on January 7th 2004 when Lupino reached 115 TDs, surpassing the wood elf catcher Svante.

The addiction still intact and I was playing with Via Canada over and over again, using all the four gobbos on the TTM showdown, but no one could be better than Lupino. So it came the sad sad sad part... we were playing the most famous team on fumbbl, the Terrifying Anarchists of Naggaroth, that we faced many times in the past, that was just another match against this monster team. You tend to forget the bad memories, but I clearly remember that it was my turn and for a reason or another Lupino was sidelined by a witch in the previous turn. My immediate thought was to move him against that diving tackler witch (ag4 stunty, leap... rather easy), but I decided to move the Ogre before of anything..... yeah, I know, don't shout me: "WHYYYYY!?!?!?", because I simply did it, blocking an elf, double push, used "pro", success, double skulls....... I just wrote to Evo: "the death" a second later.... ;(((( well.... that was a prediction, no more Lupino since then, so I couldn't blame Evo, but only my stupidity, my bad luck and the lack of side step (do you remember I gave him leap as the last skill? It should have been side step....) That's the brief story of Lupino, surely the most exciting player I ever played and thrown so far ;)
