This week we are starting with Mr Goo!!!!!

1. Firstly, how long have you been playing Bloodbowl and how did you discover Fumbbl?

I played about 5 games as a kid 10-12 years ago, I remember my brother and I armed with a copy of White Dwarf and a set of dice, drawing a grid on a Subbuteo pitch with marker pen to make a board. After a few games on a real pitch, I forgot about all things GW. At Uni, I spent a bit of time playing strategy turn based games way into the night with Xenon (amongst others), and the conversation moved around to BB, he did an internet search, and here I am I suppose! Totally addicted.

2. You currently run WIL, how did this come about and is it as much work as it looks?

When I was new onsite, the league was just starting. I didn't get let in at first, as pac was looking for reliable coaches with a bit of a FUMBBL record, but eventually I got in. I ran the stats pages in the early seasons, so putting those hours in with the roster harvester program and teaching myself basic HTML I guess got me on staff, and when pac stepped aside, I suppose it was a natural thing for me to take the league on. Someone else will do it in time - I see the position of commish as kinda temporary-permanent. It can be a fair bit of work when we're between seasons and recruiting and stuff, but week to week it's not too bad.

3. Any advice for anyone looking to start a league of their own?

You get out what you put in. Seriously, if you're not prepared to put a few hours in chasing coaches, PM'ing people, recruiting, fluffing, etc, you'll fail. L? is competitive in the sense coaches that enjoy leagues only have so much free time. The other thing is stick to deadlines, if you let them slip, you lose all pace and the thing falls apart. Lastly, get some mates that believe in the idea to help staff, a little help from your friends goes a long way.

4. Apart from running WIL what else do you do on the site?

I recently became a mod, so I sit in main and make sure the language and behaviour is OK, and I look over forums and vet front page news as well. I've started helping out on the R? Tournament staff, and am running a metagroup in S?. Generally other than that, I guess I spam a bit and forward the cause of L? wherever I can! Very Happy

5. What is your preferred play style and why?

I guess I'm like Mez's forum sig - I'm a munchkin and will do anything to win. Leagues can be a bit different with regards to team preservation, etc, but generally speaking I'll apo BH's if I think I need to and use near on any tactic I can to get a win. I guess it's because I'm very competitive. I've huge respect for other people playing in different ways, to get teams to 1000 games or Evo teams or whatever, but it's not for me. Smile

6. In your opinion who has been your nemesis on the field?

I think statistically, it's Linfalass. I'm 0-0-6 there. I've never been one that puts much stock in head-to-head results since the sample size is generally so low, but on paper, he's the man that hurts me. They're all R? games as well, so I've decided they're fair and I'll play them. Some guys do well against me in L?, but racial things and the games schedules throw up tend to warp that a bit. Seraphimred is like playing myself style-wise, so I always find that really difficult, and pac tends to out-think me.

7. Do you use your White/Black list and if so why would you put someone on these lists?

I used to use the Whitelist, but I met so many nice coaches that I can never keep it up to date, and it would be so long now it's pointless! I think I've blacklisted 4 coaches ever, but they're all either long gone or forgiven at this point.

8. What is your most memorable game?

I like to think it's still to come, I suppose. Probably this FC game. It was random, it ebbed and flowed, and it got really loud. Probably my most specced game. I tend to remember other people's games more than my own, to be honest. Phil78 V Zerkalo was the best thing I've ever seen on-site.

9. What is your BloodBowl? philosophy?

Make sure you're having fun, I guess. I don't really mind however anybody plays, so long as they're enjoying themselves.

10. And finally, any advice in general to new members of the site?

I think the site is way better for newbies now than when I joined. I'd say; spend a little time in A? and get used to the thing, and then make sure you explore everything. Too many people let themselves get shoehorned into R? or B? these days without looking around at what the site has to offer in different divisions. Spectate good coaches if you want to get better, ignore CR, and never start a rng thread in the forum! Smile

More to come over the following weeks depending on how quick I can come up with a question set and how quick the coaches in question take to respond Smile

Hope this helps and any feedback is welcome *gets flame proof gear ready*

Will.
