3POW! Staff League - Match 4
Unfortunately, real life interfered (as it tends to do) and legionsrealm was unable to play for the longest time. Well, times have finally eased up and we can get our first match of the second round robin underway! It'll be a match of evil and cunning, with his Vampires kicking to my Dark Elves.

The game starts on a "foul" note (ah ha, ah ha) as Undego, one of my linelfs, is tossed on the first turn for attempting to kick a thrall in the junk. Not one to be outdone in the poor rolling category, legionsrealm fails a first turn Bloodlust roll and stuns another thrall. As you can imagine, this was a mess of an opening and not the keepaway game either team would prefer to play!

Things get really messy when, after three 1-die block skulls, a Vampire blitzes the ball free and sends it bouncing into the crowd. The crowd -- clearly pro-Vampire -- tosses the ball midfield where it's picked up by a waiting vampire! This will require a quick and decisive action; sadly, my 2-die block with a linelf is a double-Double Down. In goes Rodrigo for the score -- 1-0!

I receive the kick but can't pick the ball up. Luckily, another failed Bloodlust roll give me time to secure the ball. Good thing, too, as a linelf throws double-skulls on a thrall. In comes the rush, but a handoff play sends the ball to the other wide zone. After a successful blitz ona corner vamp, away to the races goes blitzer Iaurdur. The downed vampire promptly Bloodlusts(!) and the resulting dodge+GFI is good for a touchdown -- 1-1!

In the following Turn 8 beatdown, only one elf is KO'd. Even better, he recovers at the half! Woo!

The kick to the vampires is a touchback. Not much is made of it, as a thrall promptly throws a 1-die block and skulls out (even with a re-roll)! I move into position, leaving nothing left in base. Luckily for legionsrealm, his blitz is a good one, stunning a linelf. From there, he cagily sets up a hand-off play: vampire to thrall (named Brooks) and two GFIs later -- 2-1!

The Vampire fans get super-excited at the kickoff and throw a rock, stunning one of my blitzers. My opening drive is further blunted by Mistress Jadeworm (team captain and sole witch elf) throwing a double-down on the vampire in base.
While the thralls scurry into position, my following foul Badly Hurts a vampire!! I try to surround and foul another only to remember, durrr, ONE FOUL PER TURN. No matter -- Jadeworm promptly scores a key CAS on another vampire!! The first opposing block of the next turn is against Jadeworm with a thrall but it's a double-down; I promptly foul and stun the offending thrall and advance the ball in a half-cage.

Things are looking good with the tying touchdown in sight but three thralls make every single one of their GFIs and pop the ball free with a blitz! Second verse, same as the first: the ball bounces to the crowd, who toss it to the midfield. A waiting thrall pounces on it and punts it deep to the back corner! Game over -- Vampires win, 2-1!

What a great match!! I definitely regret not making that one extra GFI near the end of the game to make that blitz super-risky, but oh well -- I cleared the pitch of three vampires, which is fine by me. Next up is aerofool's Chaos Dwarves, which means I get a chance to add some big, ugly hats to my trophy rack. Huzzah!
