The Hobgoblin Team - first mentioned in 2nd edition, who later changed their name to The Hobgoblins.

Background
The Hobgoblin Team is really the only Hobgoblin team worthy of note. Not that they ever won anything, or even came close. But if there was one team that was everyone's favourite second team it was The Hobgoblin Team. Not only were they every fans second favourite team, they were also among the favourites of every opposing team; each year teams would be queuing up to play their pre-season friendlies against The Hobgoblin team. They were among the most poorly equipped, moronic creatures found on the Blood Bowl circuit and an easy victory for any opposition. Fans travelled from far and wide to watch the Hobgoblins getting slaughtered week in week out, but the Hobgoblins would put on a show them selves, their players knew every dirty trick in the book, and never wasted an opportunity to kick a player when he was down, unfortunately they rarely checked who they were fouling and more often than not it was a team mate.

To this day The Hobgoblin team still hold the record for the most casualties caused and received in a single came of Blood Bowl. Not only that - they also hold the record for the most fans killed in one game when their stadium collapsed killing 30,000 spectators.

Since the collapse and reformation of the NAF there are many more Hobgoblin teams on the Blood Bowl circuit - all trying to achieve the same level of success as The Hobgoblin team. Their goal is not to win any trophies, all they hope to achieve is breaking The Hobgoblins Team's records of - Most Casualties caused in a match and will try and achieve it by any means necessary.

Rationale
Originally I only had 1 Hobgoblin team, but this was based more on their WFB background. After I revisited the Blood Bowl background material I realised that the previous roster I did was more suited to a Hobgoblin slaver team, and felt with the abundance of material to work from in the 2nd edition books a 2nd Hobgoblin team was needed that was more in keeping with Blood Bowl.

Working from the source material the Hobgoblins held many records for the most casualties caused in a game and the most received in a game as well etc... However there was no mention anywhere in any of the material of them having Blockers, Catchers and Blitzers. The only players the material specifically mentions by position are Runners and Linemen. They are depicted as cheats and incredibly stupid.

Linemen were straight forward as they were the same as in the Chaos Dwarf team. Runners were added because they are mentioned as being in the team in 2nd edition. I just gave them A access, increased Ma and Sure Hands which felt like enough of a boost to make them useful.

I needed some way for the team to cause damage to fit the aforementioned fluff of being one of the most brutal teams in the game, apart from the usual Blitzers, and the background in blood bowl talks about them being particularly dirty, so I added 4 Dirty Gits with the DP skill. This makes the team really unique as the whole team functions around their ability to foul. The name also fit as we already have Sneaky Git as a positional in Blood Bowl from their star player Hobgoblin Rashnak, and Dirty Git just feels right. Like the other Hobgoblin team I also added in 0-2 Sneaky Gits, because it just adds to the teams willingness to cheat, and use underhand tactics.

The Blitzers are kept to 0-2 as I did not want the team being too reliable, plus I want most of the damage to come from fouling. Their stat line was basically the same as normal Hobgoblins, with Block, and and extra point of Av, as these are their best players.

The team isn't really meant to be the most competitive team on the circuit and they should be a team that suffers heavy casualties but also causes quite a bit of carnage as well.

Season 2 (2020 Edition) Changes
No changes other than the addition of the Pa stat in line with the how it was implemented in the core rules.

2020 Edition further Changes (2024)
Sneaky Stabbas have been added to the official Chaos Dwarf roster, these are clearly a nod to Sneaky Gits... the Hobgoblin unit from 4th Edition Warhammer Fantasy Battle. This sadly steps on the toes of the Sneaky Gits from the Hobgoblin and Hobgoblin Slavers teams from Secret League. The problem is Sneaky Stabbas are without question the worst designed player in the history of Blood Bowl. They are ludicrously expensive an utterly worthless, so will never see play unless the coach is new and doesn't know better, or if someone is desperate to use them for fluff reasons. Therefore I have decided to ignore Sneaky Stabbas. Typically I adjust players in line with official changes. But because this player has been designed so poorly I will ignore it and keep Sneaky Gits in the 2 aforementioned rosters as a separate positional. That said... I am adjusting the existing Secret League Sneaky Git a little as they're proving too effective at very low TV due to the efficacy of Sneaky Git this edition, also I'm adjusting them in line with the star player from which they were based on Rashnak. The change I opted for was to remove Dodge and give them Side Step. This fits their background better better than Dodge and removes the protect Dodge provides them at Low TV, but importantly they retain Sneaky Git.

I also changed their Special Rule to Badlands Brawl. As this is more fitting and where Hobgoblin Star Players have been designated.
