Treemen are actually very good. You can either make an impressive cage with them, bashing and waiting for the last turn to throw the ballcarrier. You can also defend with a big wall of treemen. Then, three groups of 1 spaced treemen seem optimal.

For skills, look for doubles for the treemen. Pro, Block and Leader are all excellent choices. For the spite, the best is probably the random general route to get a Dirty Player and a Kicker as soon as possible. You also can go for some random agility spites to get some Sneaky Gits and Diving Tackle players. Having an high spp spite with Catch, Sure Feet, Sprint can also be a good idea for your ball carrier.
