It's pretty easy. Gimp is a great bit of free software:

Fumbbl wiki entry on how to get and use Gimp here

And as mentioned, tinypng.com will shrink the filesize whilst keeping the transparency in the background.

Use scale image to get the pic to 95x147 (portrait).

Cooltext is also a useful place to download fonts for free that you can install for use via gimp if you want to add and words to the image.

Thanks for all the input. But thats exactly what i did gimp >> image >> scale >> file >> export as jpg.

Ofc i cant have it 95x147 if the original picture had different proportions and i want to keep the same x and y ratio.

All the images are 95 pixels width and within 147 pixels length (fairly under that limit actually) two seperate programs say and all are less than 30Kb.
Yet they show up like this on the roster as on the client.

@Roland

Right sorry, not 147 length - but that can not be achieved without blurring/ skewing the image anyway?

nono, you have to cut some of the edges to get a narrower picture
you can't just scale the picture, that will keep the proportions...

btw, I used paint for the post above

Warning: murderrant!

Oh jeezus - let me smash in a wall!!

It couldnt be as easy as that i knew it....man i hate this brave new world. Period.

Once people could draw with a pencil and paper once people made sense.

Anyway....gotta find me a fitting wall...

Well maybe better not break anymore bones.

Thanks a heap Roland - at least now i know what the problem is!
And thanks for the picture man - thats kind of embarrassing to me my post made you use your time on that! Neutral

Albin, use paint.net, its the easiest approach for FUMBBL pics I know of. Once I found the picture, I need 60 seconds to fit it for the upload on FUMBBL.

Though this thread is fairly old now - feel this may be worth adding/ pushing...

Im now able to get a player portrait done within 1-3 mins. - thanks to pixlr.com!

And i hope this might help some coaches getting started just as it helped me (feels so good to at least have something halfway decent now - in comparison to what it was before)!

Especially the express app is great for cropping player portraits. You just hack in the format of 95 x 147 (after doing some minor resizing) and it will give you a cropping template of just that correct size! Click and done!

No need to dabble around with the cropping tool, no need to delete transparent parts that would otherwise still stick to the image in programs like Gimp or PS.

Also useful for other simpler tasks, like adding team names to a simple logo. I think the fonts are pretty decent.
No need to download too, works within the browser. Interface pretty much like a cellphone app - so it really does the job like the idiot you are! \o/

Thought it was worth the push, maybe other coaches will pick it up and finally add some colours and flavour to their teams! If i can, anyone can.

Thanks to the app team portraits are fine now (aside that niggled wolf, gotta redo that one).
Thirty minutes later i was even able to add this airhead team - its that quick. None of them are overly creative, as i could just use what was already there - but it was just the right thing to get me started!

Thanks again for your help guys (and ill check that link Dominik, seems like there are some great newer apps on the market for the tech noob)!
