I have been thinking of doing something a little bit different with my new chaos team .
Rather than going down the block/Claw/RSC ROAR!!! route i was concidering trying to build a team with an actual effective Running Game
Im sure its been tried before , so has anyone had any sucsess , and do they have any tips ?
So far the plan is going well as my first skill was a +AG for my beastman |

It has some success.
But when you reach TR 200 it all comes to this: the ball handing teams are shit scared of playing a 200 tr chaos team, and only bashy teams accept your offers.
So, if you wanna play ball, play elves. |

Interesting choice of BG, you are playing a "ballplaying chaos team", and then you buy a Mino?
Im not saying any of the BGs likes to play ball, but the ogre are favoured for beeing the most reliable BG.
Saying that, I would wait with the BG until I had a full set of CWs, instead, they make much bettar ballplayers. |

It works if you know what you're doing. On top of my head, Purplechest's Paladins do a good job, without going overboard on injury skills. The problem of trying to play ball with Chaos is that you need to roll a whole bunch of doubles and stat increases to get to that play style. Without those, you're still stuck with MA6, AG3 players, a team with no one turning ability, no natural blockers (meaning you need 16 spp before any of them gets something like stripball, or tackle and be effective), and expensive team rerolls.
If you're trying to do a ballhandling chaos type, try Rotters, as they get FA for free, saving you a some skill rolls. The flip side of that team is of course the chance that any of your star players can be retired in game without an apo to save them. |

Some coaches have the gut and look at the team before playing and upon realizing that it isnt claw-loaded might take on the game. I usually will play chaos with elves if its the more non-bashy route...

Thanks for the namecheck torsoboy.
I have found this to be a challenging and fun way to try and play chaos. Some random musings from my experiences with the Paladins bearing in mind i claim no great skill, I'm just often fairly lucky. The following is based on experience and opinion, not presented as fact:
Ball handlers need probably two of the following to be really effective:+AG, Big Hand, sure hands. they look at first glance to be unneeded if you have any other but the opposite is true. Really you need to pick up on 35/36 as if you fail, and are playing other than a psycho kill team, you are 1-0 down.
Ball handlers die, all the damn time. Opponents target them and rightly so. Have back up if you can and protect them like wolves/ghouls.
One Claw will usually not stop elves playing you. Add tackle and it probably will. Claws best use is as a distraction. You can oten force holes to open by making the opponent target/flee from your claw.
Unlike the multiple foul crowd, you WILL have to learn about good field positions, both for screening defenses (you will face opponents you will laugh as they dance through 1 TZ, make them face three) and for offenses (even if planning to run you NEED to look capable of a quick pass play or they can clog the running channels and hold the ball up indefinately)
The team does need to be solidly built. When the ball handlers die/are injured there needs to be a plan B. Even if it is only to pretend to be dwarves.
FEAR the psycho crowd. Their chaos will always be better killers than you, their orcs can out AV you and match you for str and Khemri may be a joke to anyone that an get away from them, but they can mush you into the ground. Enjoy beating them, but dont try it every game, you'll run out of cash for replacements.
Rerolls are primary for BALL realted incidents, early turn double skulls and dodges. AG3 measn you CAN dodge. As well as humans for example, and playing a non psycho chaos team requires you to learn when to fight and when to 'not be there'.
CW's are not just to hit things with. They are great all round BB players. That said their av9 makes them good hitters too.
BG's: Get an Ogre or Troll. Mino's are a liability with their low AV and frenzy and WA. Its like three negatraits. Ogres are great but compare badly to CW's so for my money best Bg for chaos is troll. Regen on the LOS playing 'Claw/RSC DP foul monkeys'(tm) is useful. |

I can only second PurpleChest's recommendaitions. Take a look at my Even More Improved Avatars. Besides from my good luck with two st+ beastmen I mostly focused them to beat ballplayers at their own game.
The Tentacles in particular tend to mess up every elf-bowl offense and for this they are IMO the best skill on st4 or above players on a double. If you absolutely must have a claw or even rsc, give it to a beastman. His horns will make sure that he's an effective blitzer and as PurpleChest said a good diversion as he's surely the first target for a counter-blitz/foul instead of a more important player.
Many Tackles are important too. They are crucial for fighting the blodge-laden elfteams and mostly won't scare them away like MB does. MB doesn't really do much good against av9 teams anyway and for hurting the av8 or 7 teams, knocking them down in the first place is more important.
Also I can't say it often enough: Give a Beastman Kick! This has to be the most underrated skill ever. |

You could just wait until LRB 5 when chaos will be able to run the ball alot better. |

which should be due out on fumbbl by 2008 ( the same time all mutations take a beating anyway and become half as good )
I was thinking of setting up a couple of handlers , then working on a few runners with long legs if i get the chance build around a team of block ,guard sort of thing , more of a hybrid team than a straight bash |
