Me and some mates have started a little "4v4 bltz ball" league while we're waiting for our last mate to get his act together, and join our real league.
We decided that to make it fast, block was out, and to prevent elves from being the only race played, when you can so freely move around, we banned dodge too.
Added to that st 3 max (after a messy Bullcentaur incident) and we thought we were good...
It still turned out that my 3 mates all rolled 3 elf catchers, and a thrower. Me being the only one who played something else.
At first it worked fine. Games were fast and fun, and with so few people, totally random mayhem, as everything could turn on the spot.
But it's beginning to show, that my werevolves are tearing them a new one. They seem to be unstoppable. And while my zombies are useless, my two players are taking out entire teams. (ok, of 4, but still...)
So my question was, have any of you played similar game set-ups, and if you have, is it possible to semi balance it, without barring all teams but human?
It just seems so boring if you cant stil choose teams. But I see why elves are deadly. Free to move around. That said, claws is killing them, big time.
Any pointers or experiences on this? |

Try out some of the game variants on the specialist games website. They usually use smaller (less wide) pitches along with some other special rules. Basicly BB was designed for 11 players so you shouldn't expect it to work perfectly for 4. I think most of the variants are for 7 players on each side. |

At 4 vs 4, it's hard, even if I would have picked chaos considering what you just say there.
You added good rules by banning str4+ players.
Your wolves are naturally very strong because of claw (that's why I'd pick chaos). But there's other strong teams too like skaven: 2 storm vermins + Gutter Runner.
IMO, if you want a good balance, create 4 vs 4 rosters like
Necro:
0-1 werewolf
0-1 Flesh Golem
0-2 ghouls
0-4 Zombis
Pro elf
0-1 Blitzer
0-1 catcher
0-1 Passer
0-4 Linemen
Chaos:
0-1 Chaos Warrior
0-4 Beastmen
Khermis:
0-2 Mummys
0-1 Blitzer
0-1 Passer
0-4 squeletons |

well the thing is, the games are well fast, and hilarious. Players die, and get hurt a lot, as there are only so many to focus on, but you always have money for more. Fast skill gain for some fun combo's... it's action packed...
They're just starting to moan about claws vs armour 7... Tried telling them to not all play squshies then, but they wont listen... Just wondered what you guys had tried... |

About my own experience:
I play in a 5 on 5 league.
I picked Skaven but chaos are stronger. AV 8 elves may be a good choice too.
We had no restriction so you could frontload the teams with positional and I wished that out. |

Remember that the wolfie has no apo. If the elves use an elf to take the wolfies down each turn, sooner or later you will also start losing wolfies and the game should balance out some (since they are better at scoring)
In my opinion there is no need to use any special rules to balance the game. It could be argued that ogre teams would be a tad bit overpowered, but other than that most teams work well with normal blood bowl rules.
At low trs teams such as all blitzer amazons will be very good and at high trs chaos and in some cases Chaos dwarves will be. |

Well, the no blodge rule was mainly because this started as a joke, and we just wanted as many sides of the dice to hurt as poss... The fun factor here is, if you get hit, 50% say you go down. So it's impossible to make that blodge sidestep mv 9 elf with agi 5 that one turns all the time...
We mainly did it to allow for more cripples. But two of the guys are a bit... Rule mongering, and play to win. They're the ones who tried to make pure st 4 teams for an edge, and then picked pure catchers for speed... Now they moan about claws hurting...
But I do see the problem... Thing is tho, with block and dodge, it'd be nothing but 6's again for injuries... People would stop falling, and it'd be push ball... We rather like the carnage of this.
I've resorting to sacking the wolves, and rebuying, to keep them in tact with the others, but that's not really a feasable solution either. |

Am curious that you banned dodge ahead of things like Claw, MB or DP...
After all...there are only 4 TZ's to dodge from...but with such small teams, any team-killing skills are going to do the most to imbalance it... |

Well, tell them to foul the Wolves. It should be easy to get them down, seeing as you have to put at least one on the line, and the no apoth. Game over, elves win.
They just need to learn how to play against wolves, not change the rules. |

Well that's what I've been saying... That they need to stop dodging all the time, and take the things out...
The zombies they can completely ignore. No danger in them at all (utill I rolled a double and got frenzy. Nasty lil' surprise )
But yeh ok, so it seems it's not an actual balance issue... We'll try some more and see what happens... Cheers! |

There are huge balance issues, its just that this isnt one of them. |

Yes, and I took it as:
You can't SELECT block and dodge as a skill.
I don't see written that you can't buy a player with block. |
