I would take pro if someone was threatening my children to stop me taking block, other than that....... not often?
In fact the threat would have to specifically to MAKE me take pro, as otherwise I'd try to be creative if they forced me not to take block. |

ALL big guys, if you know will roll 2 X doubles. always take BLOCK/ PRO.
|
Ogre team Ogres are the exception: they should get Tackle, Sure Hands and even Dodge (sometimes) before Pro. |

Oh, I disagree.
Ogre teams are built to kill pixels and a lot of them.
Block/Pro ramps up the firepower big time.
Taking sure hands/dodge/surefeet/pass/catch/tackle is all fools gold.
So you are worried about picking up or catching the ball?
Ogre teams can team reroll so they have a 75% chance to perform "baller" actions.
Oh, you are worried that the wardancer will leap in and stripball, why? that is were you want a dancer, in the middle of 5 ogres.
What? tackle? you 3db a blodger and get a knockdown on a 38% chance and with reroll it is 52%.
Ogres only need to focus on KILLING!!!!!!! |

Nope, I don't see it. In an ideal game, where every block is a 3d, you never have to pick up after re-rolling the bonehead, you are always in a cage... you might be right.
Tackle is a special case: I would maybe take it as the first double, over Block (on at least one ogre). Here's the reason: although it lacks Block's defensive quality, it is needed to take on blodgers, and while block will only get you a knockdown against blockless opponents, it always knocks down dodge. Good for marking too.
When's the last time you 3db'd a Vampire, btw? |

About the same as I Frenzy-surfed a Blodgestepper from a full square away from the sideline - but gawdz is it satisfying.

I usually roll pretty poorly on pro; I almost never take it. I usually go Block (or Claws if it's a double on a rogre), then Dodge (if lucky) -> Standfirm and go the roadblock path. |

A block big guy instantly becomes reliable enough to take actions early in the turn. Having block means you are going to take more blocks and work that mighty blow more often.
I think there's maybe a few places where you could justifiably take Pro first, but in all those cases, deciding to take block instead won't hurt you in the slightest.
The rat ogre gets claw, as stated above. Juggernaut is fine for blocking reliability, and the extra punch of the claw mutation is tough to pass up. |

block as a first skill
pro as a second skill
tackle is useful with a krox... mv 6 BT makes for good blitz, and it is good with P-tail |

I took Block on the Ogre and Troll. I'll see how it goes. |

Pro IF you intend on activating him often to perform multiple functions.
Pro, Break Tackle, Throw Teammate, Blitzing, Carrying the Ball, Repositioning
Block IF you only intend to activate him to BLOCK opposing players that get near him.
Block, Piling On, Grab, Multiple Block
Block IF you really only intend to use him as a roadblock.
Block, Stand Firm, Guard |

I can see the case for taking Juggs on a Wild Animal, and taking Pro instead of Block on a double, because they tend to Blitz more, and the mino in particular can get 3bd easier because of Horns. Thing is, they need Block more than other big guys as a defensive skill as they can get in trouble with Frenzy.
The case for Tackle or even Diving Tackle can be made where the big guy comes with a marking skill that will stack, like a Prehensile Tail or Tentacles. |
