I have a rules question about the +stat roll.
In the rulebook it states that you can choose to roll a +stat. If the +stat you get can no longer be improved, or if you don't want it, you can choose to pick something else. The rulebook is quite specific: that something else is a Secondary skill.

The exact wording is this: should you randomly select a characteristic that cannot be improved or that you do not wish to improve, the player may instead choose a Secondary skill.

Now, this is my question: is there a consensus that this deliberately bars Primaries? Or did they write Secondary skill because it is the next most expensive choice, implying you can also choose a Primary if you want to?

It seems weird that you can either choose the +stat or a Secondary, but not a Primary, but maybe it is a deliberate choice so that if you take the risk of rolling a +stat, you know you can't get a primary on top of not being sure of getting the stat you wanted.

What's your take on that? Rules as written, or poor wording?

ps: I tested on Fumbbl and the system lets you choose a Primary or a Secondary, so Fumbbl seems to go with the "poor wording" route. I don't know if it is an oversight or if it was Errata'd.

ps2: found it in the FAQ - Page 4. You pay as a Secondary, but you can choose a Primary if you want.

"You pay as a Secondary, but you can choose a Primary if you want"

In terms of SPP, you pay the full stat-price, ie you don't get a spp refund for choosing a cheaper option. Eg first skill, you can have a primary, but it costs the full 18spp

In terms of TV, it costs the normal primary/secondary cost of 20/40k

Yeah I wrote incorrectly. You pay as a full stat price, and you get whatever skill you desire. And your tv raises accordingly (either for the +stat, the primary, or the secondary).

Thanks.
ps: it irks me to no end that they put the clarification in the FAQ and not in the Errata. Technically it is an ERRATA, because the way they worded it in the original rulebook was wrong. But they published the clarification / change in the FAQ section. That's why it took me a while to find it. Bleh.
