Well, in my first games here I was very surprised how many "1´s" you can roll. I do not complain about unbalanced, but if at all, about bad luck.
But the great difference is (all roleplayers will know), that with real dice you can manipulate them. You can tread them nicely, can talk to them sweetly during a thunderstorm to comfort them, or also punish them. Also, it sometimes helps to shake them before throwing or to shout at them while they roll and bounce. But all this is missing when playing with the client.
Now we loose all the influence that we think we have (an illusion build up over many years). And that is a shock for many a newbie...

I did hear nobody talk about Nuffl.

Newbies have to be made aware of her (omni-)presence. I say put Nuffl in the FAQ. Cool

Bah. The problem is that with the board game version, I always get to use my special lucky red dice, and I always restrict my opponent to white dice. Not to mention that when one dice roll fails, I can always choose another more lucky dice to make the reroll. All these things are missing online...

I had to F#cking hide a pair of dice on my buddy once. He would roll 6,5 and 4 for ALL aromour rolls, then roll 6/6 after the game for skills. It was sickening. We hid them or would switch them and tell him afterwards and he would go nuts. Then he lost b/c he did not have his dice.

You are confused and flirting dangerously with heresy my friend. While eveyone knows luck is a lady, ie. lady luck, Nuffle is most definatley male. The worship of Nuffle was started by dwarves and orks, nuff said. Wink

there are no dice in jbb and the pseudo-dice are only pseudo-random.

leave the guy alone: he's cute Smile

seriously, though, when playing at tourneys, you see that that sort of thing really lifts the atmosphere - before a very important dice roll, a guy playing cataphract paused, stooped, and removed from its bag a medium sized red die.

He talked for just a minute or so about other times when this super lucky piece of equipment had helped him out of a tight spot before, how it was a magical, extra-lucky die.

And he rolled a six. [he may have been cheating, let's assume not]

But it should occur to everyone, that once you've talked up a die roll - treating it nicely, yelling at it as it bounces, shaking it and threatening it, smashing a different die with a hammer, etc...

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU ROLL! If, after all the build-up, he'd rolled a 1, it would have been hilarious. A 2, and the dice would have been taunting him. a 3, and it is saving up luck by giving only what is necessary... and 4 and 5 are in the top half, anyway, giving a show of high numbers.

Arcon may well be a little crazy, but it's a cool kind of crazy if you want to play games with the guy Wink

Of course, if I was a terrified pet in his house, and he was neglecting me for his dice during a thunderstorm... I'd probably crap on his pillow Laughing

Actually i'd say that the computers random number generator is more random than the dice you game with in real life. Dice in casinos are changed almost nightly because even the slightest damage to any face or wear on the corners can affect the numbers rolled. I doubt you change out your dice very frequently when gaming so odds are very good that you have a few dice that are screwed up for better or for worse. Not to mention the ease with which you can sneak one or two loaded dice into your dice bag. Wink

The only problem with the dice in JBB as compared to those in the board game is that they cant be chucked across the room in a fit of rage without subjecting your immensely more expensive computer to g-forces it was not designed for or equipped to withstand.

Toaster: Howdy doodly do. How's it going? I'm Talkie, Talkie Toaster, your chirpy breakfast companion. Talkie's the name, toasting's the game. Anyone like any toast?
Lister: Look, I don't want any toast, and he doesn't want any toast. In fact, no one around here wants any toast. Not now, not ever. No toast.
Toaster: How 'bout a muffin?
Lister: Or muffins. Or muffins. We don't like muffins around here. We want no muffins, no toast, no teacakes, no buns, baps, baguettes or bagels, no croissants, no crumpets, no pancakes, no potato cakes and no hot-cross buns and definitely no smegging flapjacks.
Toaster: Aah, so you're a waffle man.
