It matters because you want true banishment. You want restriction of art. You want no depictions that could be seen sexually. That is total restriction. That is restriction. That is not marginalized exclusive. That is really exclusive. And that is how we did things 200 years ago. |

Wreckage,
Thanks for your thoughts. If you read something very different into the "Old enough to..." quote then that would go someway to explaining our different responses. If it happened, unfortunately, I suspect it was intended in a lewd way rather than some kind of colloquial metaphor for being old enough to play a board game - hence my different response. In any case it is a pretty crude phrase, so not one would recommend! I agree you need to know both sides to a story before passing judgement. |

That's because I have a sense of time and place. I care about great deal about treating women as people and treating all people well. It's not an accident that animefreak specifically called me and AD out and it's not an accident that I married a woman whom bucks american societal conventions and it's not an accident that working in a woman dominant office in an female majority industry has made me more aware of the utter horse shit women go through in the name of male free expression.
Am I calling for a ban to porn? No, I love porn. Am I calling for a ban to mini skirts and leering? No I enjoy miniskirts and leering. What I'm asking is to be cognizant that injecting personal sexuality in a public sphere can be alienating to those in the cross hairs of your boner. Show some good judgment not to put the burden of yourself on other people. |

It all started for me with what is appropriate for female player pics. There is a clear gap between Anglosphere, europe and the rest of the world in what is appropriate and what is either harmful to children or disrespecting to women.
While for some Americans a semi-nude woman is harmful to a child's eye, it is disrespectful towards a male Muslim. For me it is both the same: It is oppressing and backwards.
Unfortunately Europe is developing more and more towards the US, take ban of prostitution for example to give the women back their "dignity". The protests of prostitutes against these laws were vell overheart. Wow! |

lol...
I was thinking 'slave to the gynocrasy'
But I'm kidding, really I am. Having also worked for years with a group that was 90% female, and having only daughters (and their friends) and coaching girls softball...
I'm no stranger to seeing only that point of view. |

Multiculturalism doesn't imply traditional gender roles, so your "that is why" looks merely verbal, Dom. |

I wouldn't expect it to be ignored.
Doesn't mean it's any more or less valid than anything else though. |

In Austria it does since 95% of the immigrants come from more traditional countries. |

The OP wasn't.
Some of us co-opted it since the basic point of the OP is so obvious it's not really worth discussing beyond the general agreement it received. Peoples personal issues with the OP aside at least. |

I like that "more traditional" euphemism, Dom. Here's what Statistics Austria says:
Statistics Austria wrote: | In 2014, 170 115 immigrations and 97 791 emigrations resulted in an international net migration gain of 72 324 inhabitants. Relative to Austria’s resident population, this corresponded to a rate of 8.5 per 1 000 inhabitants. Compared to 2013, the migration gain increased by 32% (2013: +54 728). Continuing a longstanding trend, 5 419 more Austrian citizens left the country than migrated back to Austria. At the same time, a migration gain of 77 743 people was recorded for foreign citizens in 2013, which was significantly higher than in 2012 (+60 720).
About 62 per cent of Austria’s net migration gains of foreign citizens originated from other countries within the European Union (+47 841 people). Romanian citizens represented the nationality with the largest net gain (+12 710), followed by Hungarian (+7 798) and German (+5 562) citizens.
The migration balance of non-EU citizens amounted to +29 902 immigrants in 2014. The largest group of Europeans were citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina (+2 625), followed by Serbians (+2 543) and citizens from Kosovo (+1 375). From outside of Europe, Syrian (+7 129) and Afghan (+2 709) nationals represented by far the largest immigrant populations in 2014. |

I'm not sure how you get your 95%.
Also, you now are referring to countries when at first you were more talking about cultures, which according to you are not equal.
Where would you put these "more traditional" countries in a tier system? |

well, i think the fact we're having this discussion and the answers it got clearly proves that there are still some quite present issues at hands concerning gender equality |
