It's been a while since we've looked at the standings. Here are the teams that would make the playoffs if we did the cut right now, based on win percentage.

AWC

DW1: Argentinian Caudillos (3-3-0) - 9 points
DW2: Surrey Serpents (3-2-1) - 8
DW3: Vancouver Rot-Nucks (4-0-3) - 8
DW4: Colorado Chipmunks (3-0-3) - 6
WC1: Winchester Wicked Wrongdoers (3-3-0) - 9
WC2: Essen Exsanguinators (3-2-1) - 8

Just Out: North West Walking Brawls (3-1-2), Alethkar Shard Warriors (3-2-2), Slann Frogcisco 49ers (3-0-3), Buenos Aires Titans (1-2-3), Nocturne Falls Honey Badgers (1-2-3), Los Angeles Reapers (1-2-3), Argentine Noldorins (1-2-3), Detroit Delvers (1-2-3)

The East features a virtual tie at the top of the charts. Argentina and Winchester have the exact same record, including a draw against each other with the same number of CAS. Argentina takes the non-heads-up tiebreaker with more total TDs, giving them the edge for now, but the second-half meeting between these two will be huge. The Walking Brawls are also above 50% in that division, but a loss to Argentina last week has bumped them out of the playoffs for now. The West is even tighter, with all four teams from that division mentioned here, and all being at or above par. Surrey plays against Essen this week, with a winner taking possession of the division heading into the half-season mark, and a draw leaving us looking at other tiebreakers. Alethkar has finished their Week 7 game and sits very close behind. Slann Frogcisco might still chase a wild-card slot, but the fact that their three losses were against the other three teams in the AWC East will probably keep them from winning the division. Vancouver is guaranteed to keep control of the North heading into the half, but will need to step up their game in the second half. Colorado's Week 6 loss put them only a single win ahead of all three other teams in the division, and with the Chipmunks facing the league-leading Guardians in Week 7, we may have a new division lead shortly.

NWC

DW1: Nehekhara Guardians (6-0-0) - 12 points
DW2: White Rock Midnight (6-1-0) - 13
DW3: Green Back Smackers (4-2-0) - 10
DW4: Lindisfarne Midnight Sons (2-2-2) - 6
WC1: Butte Kickers (5-0-1) - 10
WC2: St. Luna Cardiac Cardinals (3-3-0) - 9

Just Out: New York Rats (3-2-1), Har Ganeth Korsairs (3-2-1), Hollywood Roundup Gang (3-0-3), Kansas Raptors (2-3-2), R'lyeh Regulars (2-1-3), Necropolis Priest Kings (1-3-2)

Nehekhara has been gifted a couple wins recently due to forfeits, but has also been beating up all comers in actual games, including the Kickers, second in the North. Har Ganeth is still in the running for a wild-card slot if they can turn their recent slide around. White Rock has a solid lead in the South, but St. Luna still has hopes, and New York in turn is gunning for their wild-card slot. Green Back is a full two wins ahead of second place in the West, and also holds the tiebreaker on Hollywood. The closest division in the NWC is the East, with Lindisfarne currently sitting at 50%, a bare point ahead of R'lyeh and Necropolis. That division is still too close to call.

The last week before we reshuffle the pairings is on! Here are the latest set of NWFL recaps.

Week 6
AWC South vs. NWC North

Nocturne Falls Honey Badgers 2 - Colorado Chipmunks 0

The Honey Badgers rushed the line on Perfect Defence, prompting the Chipmunks to dodge away and spread out. Nocturne Falls' first dice of their first turn found only Both Downs for a hit on Nobbla Blackwart, KOing the zombie trying the hit. Colorado rushed the ball in, but Honey Badger stat-freak Emmitt Stiff blitzed the ball-carrier down and took it himself. Colorado failed a dodge the next turn, then snaked a GFI the turn after while trying to hit Emmitt, and Nocturne Falls got clear for a turn 6 TD. The Chipmunks managed to pick up, pass, and hand off despite Pouring Rain, but failed a GFI while trying to get further away from the Honey Badgers, and could not score before the half. Nocturne Falls failed a pickup in the second half, but Colorado answered that with a failed dodge, and the Honey Badgers caged up and set about reducing the Chipmunk population, scoring on turn 8.

AWC North vs. NWC South

St. Luna Cardiac Cardinals 2 - Buenos Aires Titans 1

Buenos Aires ran in on a Blitz. St. Luna freed a ghoul to grab the ball. He was taken down and the ball stolen by a wardancer, but he in turn was taken out by a werewolf, while the other Cardinal wolf took star Eldril Sidewinder out of the game. A wasted Loner roll ate Buenos Aires' last reroll, and St. Luna moved the ball downfield. A failed Titan dodge cost them a blitz on the ball-carrier, and another 1 the next turn got St. Luna to the goal line. They stalled, giving up a no-skill 2d blitz, and when that didn't find a Pow Buenos Aires forced the goal by pushing the ball-carrier into the end zone. With two turns left, the Titans moved the ball up in a sideline cage. St. Luna swarmed the area, trying to prevent the ball-carrying wardancer from getting through. Buenos Aires called for a fireball, taking down two Cardiac Cardinals at the cost of one Titan, and was able to dodge through the gap created to score. The second half gave St. Luna a blitz, and the short kick let them catch the ball. Buenos Aires got a 1d on the ball-carrier, but could only Push, and the return hit removed their last wardancer from the field. The Titans fought against their dice for the rest of the half, with a 1d on the ball Skulled, and the -2d likewise. A foul to kill the only nearby Titan sealed the loss for Buenos Aires.

AWC West vs. NWC East

Surrey Serpents 2 - Alethkar Shard Warriors 1

Alethkar moved in with the ball, but found themselves outbashed. Surrey hit the ball-carrier a couple times, but could not find Pows, and the Shard Warriors dodged in to score on turn 4. Surrey continued bashing, but failed a pickup. An Alethkar wolf failed a GFI while trying to capitalize, stunning himself, and the Serpents moved the ball up. Alethkar arranged a couple more shots at the ball-carrier, but could not take him down, and Surrey evened the score. The Serpents picked up after the half where they had left off, with successful bashing and a failed pickup, caging up and eventually breaking through to the goal line. A Shard Warrior made dodges and GFIs to hit the ball-carrier, this time using Tackle to spring the ball, and Alethkar grabbed it. Surrey could not do the same on the return hit, but did strand the ball-carrier against the sideline. Alethkar made rolls to get free, but fumbled a 3+ pass through reroll. Surrey managed the 4+ pickup, dodging free and surrounding the nearby Shard Warriors. Alethkar failed another 3+, and Surrey got the touchdown on turn 8.

Lindisfarne Midnight Sons 1 - Necropolis Priest Kings 1

The teams brawled at midfield, with the Midnight Sons inflicting more damage. Lindisfarne moved the ball up past the line of scrimmage. A Skulled blitz from star Setekh got Lindisfarne clear for a turn 8 TD. Lindisfarne got a Blitz on turn 8 and then Perfect Defence to start the second half, but the Priest Kings fought back, removing several Midnight Sons from the field. Return hits killed a Block tomb guardian, and the Necropolis ball-carrier was stuck in the scrum. Lindisfarne blazed through their rerolls, though, and a Skulled 1d hit gave the initiative back to the Priest Kings. Necropolis inflicted their fourth and fifth CAS of the half, including a deadly hit on the Lindisfarne snow troll that was only apo'd down to -MA. Lindisfarne tried to fight back, but another Skulled hit got Necropolis free to tie the game.

AWC East vs. NWC West

Hollywood Roundup Gang 3 - R'lyeh Regulars 0

Hollywood started fast with a Blitz, getting a CAS and the ball. R'lyeh knocked the ball free and hurt a couple of the Roundup Gang, but could not get anyone in for a pickup, and Hollywood retrieved the ball, scoring on turn 2. Another Blitz sent Hollywood in again, but one of their wardancers KO'd himself on a failed Leap. The ball was caught by a different Ganger than had been standing under it, and he was taken down. R'lyeh made a pickup, but the remaining wardancer 1d'd it free again. Two Regulars put tackle zones on the ball, but the wardancer made the 4+ pickup, then Leaped free and ran, scoring the next turn. R'lyeh got a touchback, giving the ball to a warrior who moved in behind a screen. Hollywood's wardancer Leaped in, getting the -2d Push for Strip Ball to activate, then stole the ball with a catcher who headed back upfield. R'lyeh could not knock him down immediately, but contained him with their Tentacles minotaur. He was downed the next turn - turn 8 of the first half - but R'lyeh failed the pickup and could not score. Hollywood caged in the second half, sending their wardancers in deep. A failed Leap cost Hollywood some tempo. The Regulars blitzed in, knocking the ball free, and both teams had trouble getting it. Hollywood finally moved it to midfield. The ball-carrier was taken down, but it bounced to another nearby Roundup Gang. An attempted pass was intercepted, and R'lyeh tried to capitalize, but found their ball-carrier swarmed by elves. He tried to blitz and dodge his way out, but used the last team reroll on the hit, and tripped. Hollywood bounced the ball, catching it out of midair, and sped their new ball-carrier downfield. R'lyeh took their frustrations out on the Gang left behind, giving -ST to an already -AG thrower and -AV to a niggled lino, but could not stop the 3-0 score.

Week 7
AWC North vs. NWC South

White Rock Midnight 2 - Vancouver Rot-Nucks 1

White Rock ignored Vancouver's line, dodging and screening. They held back a couple turns before moving in along the sideline, getting a turn 5 TD without needing to roll dice with the ball-carrier. Pitch Invasion complicated Vancouver's drive, taking down five Rot-Nucks to only one Midnight. Vancouver got the ball, but could not protect it, with a blitz knocking it free and AG6 Midnight Jenif McDowel collecting it and passing it. White Rock survived the return blitz and made it to the goal line, pausing instead of risking a GFI. Vancouver could not get to the ball-carrier, but took down Jenif for -MA, with the apo to RIP declined. White Rock took a 2-0 lead into the second half, holding back initially to see where Vancouver would go. The Rot-Nuck advance was cut off, but a failed dodge let them reverse for a turn 5 score. White Rock made no move into Vancouver turf on their possession, falling back and screening, and Vancouver could not get to the ball to force a turnover before the game ended. The -MA injury to the top Quarterback in the league is obviously unfortunate for White Rock, but does put Jenif in good company, as last season's top Quarterback, Almighty Malachi, and this season's current #2, "Funky" Friedemann Friese, both have -MA as well.

AWC West vs. NWC East

Slann Frogcisco 49ers 2 - Necropolis Priest Kings 2

Necropolis, already down a tomb guardian from their previous game, lost another to a Rock KO at the start of the game. Slann Frogcisco pressed the advantage, removing more Priest Kings from the field with hits and fouls. Necropolis finally found their balance and fought back, forcing the score on turn 5, and bad KO rolls left Slann Frogcisco shorthanded. Necropolis contined the beats, CASing more 49ers and moving the ball in for a three-turn score. A Quick Snap and a chainpush put Slann Frogcisco's OTT online, and they managed to roll eight not-1s to score. Their KO rolls continued to underperform, though, and only six 49ers took the field after the half. Necropolis went for a fast score, but the 3+ catch was bobbled, and Slann Frogcisco moved players near the ball. A Priest King failed the pickup, and Slann Frogcisco grabbed it, but fumbled a punt. Necropolis retook the ball, and a failed GFI from Slann Frogcisco let the Priest Kings even the game on turn 6. Slann Frogcisco's first action of their last drive failed a leap through reroll, and Necropolis rushed in. With no rerolls, Slann Frogcisco managed dodge/pickup/GFI/pass to get the ball to midfield. The catch was dropped out of bounds, but bounced towards Necropolis territory, and the Priest Kings could not find the 6+ to pass it back up and score.

Kansas Raptors 1 - Alethkar Shard Warriors 1

Kansas got a Blitz to start, but failed a GFI to mark the ball. Alethkar collected the ball and moved in. The Raptor kroxigor blitzed the ball-carrier to no effect, but Slibli killed a +ST zombie away from the play. The Shard Warriors got to scoring range before pausing. Kansas called in a lightning bolt to KO the ball-carrier, but failed a dodge on their way to try for the ball themselves, and Alethkar got it back. The Shard Warriors got to the goal line and survived a stab from Hemlock, but dropped a no-reroll handoff to get the ball to a rookie wight. Kansas got the ball, moving their ball-carrier to the sideline on turn 7. A Both Down the blitz from Alethkar kept the ball inbounds, though, and a Shard Warrior picked it up to score. Riot gave Kansas hope to score, but a Both Down from a MB saurus on turn 8 stopped that. Kansas moved the ball up in the second half, but their cage was stalled. Kansas managed to inflict more damage than Alethkar over the next couple turns, but the Shard Warriors gained position, taking down the ball-carrier. Both sides failed pickups, but a good round of beats from the Raptors finally let them reclaim the ball. They got into scoring range on turn 7, but a blitzing wight CAS'd their ball-carrier. A failed zombie dodge left him with no screen, though, and Kansas moved him away from the ball, making the pickup to tie the game.

A new challenger approaches! Here are your Monday morning recaps.

Week 7
AWC South vs. NWC North

Tamper Bay Baconeers 0 - Nocturne Falls Honey Badgers 0

The newly arrived Tamper Bay Baconeers - to my knowledge, the first halflings ever to play in the NWFL - obviously got massive inducements for the game, picking up Morg 'n' Thorg, Zara the Slayer, and a pair of Babes to go with the obligatory Chef. The Chef was on his game, stealing two rerolls from the Honey Badgers. Nocturne Falls knocked down one tree on the line, but failed to deal with Morg. They also couldn't knock over the second tree, and his return hit killed Legend Reggie Wight - thankfully regenerated. Nocturne Falls caged and moved in, but multiple halflings screened in front of them, preventing any kind of fast progress, with Zara the Slayer playing safety behind the screen. Morg came around to that wing as well, prompting the Honey Badgers to try a reverse. A tree got next to the ball-carrier, though, and with the Honey Badger rerolls gone, a failed 2d block the next turn let the Baconeers spring the ball free. A failed Break Tackle dodge on turn 8 ended the Honey Badger hopes to score, and Tamper Bay made the pickup and pass, but failed the last GFI into the end zone. Nocturne Falls set up for the second half in OTT defence formation, with most of their players in line abreast near their end zone. They swept back in on turn 1, but a tree stretched his legs to hit an Emerging Star ghoul for -MA. The Baconeers could not force a path through, though, moving in and falling back several times. With time running short, they finally dodged their ball-carrier into scoring position, but a failed GFI cost them their screen, and a Honey Badger took the ball-carrier down for a Badly Hurt. TTM again failed for Tamper Bay, as did the attempted Stab from Zara. Nocturne Falls had a chance on turn 8, but a mummy blitz coming up Both Down/Both Down ended the game with no score.

AWC North vs. NWC South

New York Rats 3 - Buenos Aires Titans 1

New York removed a pair of loners from the field on turn 1 before running the ball to the opposing goal line. Buenos Aires rose to the challenge, knocking the ball-carrier down and grabbing the ball. The Rats rushed in, but the Titans got the ball into a cage near midfield. The New York rat ogre Frenzied into a 1d followup block, finding Skull reroll Skull. Buenos Aires moved downfield. New York tried blitzing again the next turn with a Strip Ball gutter runner, but found only Both Downs, and the Titans got into scoring range. They stalled the next turn instead of scoring, though, and a Rat found the 5+ dodge into the cage to get a 2d on the ball-carrier. The crowd bounce was perfect for New York, going directly to the other nearby gutter runner, who transferred it forward for a turn 8 score. Buenos Aires went for a one-turn touchdown, but a Skulled block instead CAS'd another Titan. Buenos Aires did better at the start of the second half, CASing a pair of Rats, but New York again dodged in for a Strip Ball blitz on the ball-carrier. New York got the ball, surviving a return blitz and dodging away to score. The Titans moved in again, scoring after New York's next attempted blitz on the ball tripped. New York sent several Rats in deep on their possession. Buenos Aires marked the ball-carrier in the backfield and double-covered the forward gutter runners, but this left a New York lino open, and he made a catch and a GFI to score for 3-1. Pitch Invasion took down too many players for Buenos Aires to have any chance at a second TD.

St. Luna Cardiac Cardinals 1 - Joplin Disasters 0

St. Luna hit and moved in. Joplin's induced bomber knocked down three Cardiac Cardinals on turn 1, but without breaking armour. St. Luna drew the Joplin apo on turn 2 to keep their rat in the game. Joplin again led with a bomb on turn 2, but a prone Disaster being hit by the explosion caused a turnover. Unlike the fireball from a wizard, bombs can hit prone players, and any player from the acting team being Knocked Down by a bomb - even one who was already prone - will cause the turn to end. St. Luna had plenty of time to move the ball in, transferring it to a rookie wight before scoring on turn 8. Joplin tried for a OTT, pushing their rat into range, but he Skulled a block while trying to blitz his own way into the end zone. Joplin started hitting in the second half, chainsawing a wight off the field. The ball was moved up into danger, and the Cardinals blitzed it free, but the bounce saw it caught by star Ugroth Bolgrot. He tried blitzing in, but a chainsaw kickback put him down with a stun. St. Luna grabbed the ball, surviving a return blitz and punting the next turn. One Disaster made it to the ball, but failed the pickup, and was blitzed down. Joplin finally used their wizard to lightning bolt the only Cardiac Cardinal near the ball, hitting but not breaking armour. The Disasters could not capitalize, though, with no result on a couple setup blocks, and then failing the pickup through reroll. St. Luna surfed the Disaster near the ball, marking it without trying for a pickup. Joplin failed rolls to get near it to try to score. St. Luna finally tried a pickup on turn 8, once the win was guaranteed, but failed to increase their lead.

AWC East vs. NWC West

R'lyeh Regulars 2 - North West Walking Brawls 1

North West hit and moved in, but failed a farming pass, and multiple Regulars marked the ball. North West bounced it on their next turn, resulting in a catch by a Walking Brawl who had already acted. He got away the next turn, and North West screened and moved him into scoring distance. R'lyeh's minotaur, Old One, failed Wild Animal to burn their blitz, and North West transferred the ball to a rookie ghoul to score. Sweltering Heat put two Walking Brawls and a Regular on the shelf for the next drive. The kick went straight to a Regular who ran the ball up. North West tried getting in the way, but could not make it to the ball-carrier, with their last action on turn 8 costing them a ghoul Badly Hurt on a failed dodge. Injuries and heat put each team at nine players for the second half. North West put themselves to eight with a quick foul drawing the ire of the ref. Old One failed a 2d block and Loner to end R'lyeh's second turn abruptly. North West blitzed the ball-carrier, taking him down with a 1d and stealing the ball. The return blitz was Skull/Skull, but rerolled into a Pow to stun North West's ball-carrier, and the Regulars recovered the ball. They moved it up, but lost it to another 1d a turn later. Old One finally remembered how to work, knocking down a mummy and getting his tackle zone on the ball. A Walking Brawl made the pickup anyway, but failed the Tentacles escape, and was taken down the next turn, and the other North West ghoul nearby was CAS'd. With all of the mobile Walking Brawls out of action, R'lyeh was able to collect the ball and run without interference, making GFIs to score on turn 8.

Winchester Wicked Wrongdoers 1 - Green Back Smackers 0

A Blizzard slowed down both teams. Green Back drew the Wicked Wrongdoers one way, then reversed the other, getting into scoring range but then stalling. Winchester got a bull centaur in for a 1d blitz on the ball-carrier, but could not take him down. Green Back's return hits were also unsuccessful, though, despite using the last team reroll, and Stand Firm kept the Wrongdoer in contact with the ball-carrier. Break Tackle let him dodge away for another 1d blitz, and that found a Pow to knock the ball into the crowd. Green Back got to the ball on their turn 8, but failed a GFI before trying the throw. Winchester failed one pickup in the second half, but made the second, outmuscling the Smackers and moving into scoring distance. It took until Green Back's turn 6 to get anyone in striking distance of the ball-carrier, at which point Winchester took their touchdown. Green Back went for a two-turn TD, but avoiding GFIs in the snow allowed the Wicked Wrongdoers an easy hit on the ball, and there were no other Smackers in range for turn 8.

I get curious about stuff. It's part of why I write these - I wonder about something, then find it out, then want to share it. One of the things I was tracking a lot last season, and haven't been doing as much this, is the results of cross-conference pairings - what happens when an AWC team fights an NWC team. Well, it turns out that the NWC has a pretty solid lead in that respect, being 29-15-17 over the AWC this season. But it is in the breakdowns that that gets really interesting. AWCE-NWCW is 6-3-6, being the only contest that is anything close to even. The Argentinian Caudillos-Hollywood Roundup Gang match in Week 7 will give some extra bragging rights to the winner. AWCN-NWCS is a brutal 12-2-1 in favour of the NWC, with White Rock, St. Luna, and New York all ending the half with more points than any team in the AWC North. AWCS-NWCN looks a bit more even with 9-3-3 for the NWC, but some of those were due to forfeits, with actual games played being 9-2-1. The NWC again has three teams - Nehekhara, Butte, and Har Ganeth - ahead of all of their rival AWC teams. AWCW-NWCE is the only pairing to tip in favour of the AWC, but at 7-7-2 it's more of the AWC not losing to the NWC than dominating. While technically the AWC West has three teams (Essen, Surrey, and Alethkar) with more points than any in the NWC East, it is only a matter of inches, with two of those teams being a bare point above the current NWC East leader. Further, the AWC West is the only division in the league to have all of their Week 7 games played - so their points will not increase, while the NWC East will be gaining a couple more.

What does that mean for you? Well, perversely, it's actually bad news for the NWC as a whole. Because more of the matches have been won by the NWC, that has resulted in points going to that division instead of the AWC. You can see this by looking at the standings - eleven out of the sixteen teams in the NWC have a win percentage of 50% or better, while only nine teams in the AWC meet that requirement. Points needed to win a division aren't as affected by this, but anyone looking for a wild-card slot is going to be facing a higher threshold in the NWC than the AWC. If we cut to the playoffs right now, based on percentages, the AWC wild-card slots would go to:

WC1: Argentinian Caudillos (3-3-0) - 9 points
WC2: Surrey Serpents (3-2-2) - 8
Alethkar Shard Warriors (3-2-2) - 8

I've included the Shard Warriors as they are almost tied with the Serpents, but are behind on tiebreaker. Taking the same number of teams from the NWC, we have:

WC1: Butte Kickers (5-0-1) - 10 points
WC2: St. Luna Cardiac Cardinals (4-3-0) - 11
New York Rats (4-2-1) - 10

Teams in the NWC will really need to buckle down in order to have any chance at the wild-card slots.

Bear with me for a minute.

The first half of the season was cross-conference play. If you are in an AWC division, you play against an NWC division. Seems fine so far. For the second half of the season, you are paired up within your conference. Two tournaments of AWC vs AWC, two of NWC vs NWC.

Well, I just realized that the assigned matchups - East vs West, North vs South - are going to put almost all of the division front-runners together. The top five teams in the AWC are in the East and the West, including literally every AWC team I mentioned in my previous post. AWC North vs AWC South, on the other hand, currently has one team over 50%. Ditto for the NWC, but reversed: North and South together have the top five NWC teams, and East and West only have one team above par.

I have no idea what this is going to do to the standings, but man is it going to be interesting.

Well, there are less of them than I wanted, but here they are: the last recaps of the first half of the season. Enjoy!

Week 7
AWC South vs. NWC North

Nehekhara Guardians 2 - Colorado Chipmunks 0

Colorado collected the ball, and both teams hit and fouled. Colorado used a reroll on an Animosity check on turn 3, and the subsequent catch was dropped. Nehekhara marked the ball. The Chipmunks sent their hired chainsaw after a Guardian, but he stunned himself on a kickback instead, and Nehekhara got the ball. Colorado's wizard only knocked down one of three targets, but this did enable a 2d blitz on the ball, and the Chipmunks got possession back - briefly. The teams traded removals back and forth for a bit. A Chipmunk grabbed the ball and tried passing it forward, but a tomb guardian got the intercept, making GFIs to score on turn 8. KO rolls weren't good at the half, with Nehekhara's only thro-ra staying down, as well as three of five Chipmunks, despite them having a Babe. Nehekhara failed their first pickup through reroll, despite using their AG3 blitz-ra. A Chipmunk came in to mark the ball, but failed a GFI to kill himself. Nehekhara missed another pickup. Colorado got a player to the ball, but failed the pickup as well. A third pickup went awry for the Guardians, and they were out of rerolls. The only Chipmunk in the area got possession, but was promptly KO'd, and Nehekhara finally got the ball themselves, moving it up into a cage near midfield. A Chipmunk dodged into the cage for a -3d on the ball-carrier, rerolling into all Pow and Pow/Push to dump the ball free. The attempted pickup in three tackle zones was not successful, though, and Nehekhara got the ball back. A failed Colorado GFI the next turn guaranteed the second touchdown, and a Skulled block ended Colorado's game before they could try for Throw Team-Mate.

Butte Kickers 2 - Har Ganeth Korsairs 1

A Blitz and a short kick gave Har Ganeth the ball to start the game. Butte tried getting in the way, but Har Ganeth blitzed down the only Kicker in the backfield and transferred the ball to the other side of the field. A foul KO'd the downed Kicker, but also got a Korsair ejected from the game. Butte set about causing damage, removing several more Korsairs from the field. Har Ganeth stalled, but a failed GFI on a journeyman prevented them from screening on turn 4, and Butte's return blitz found a Pow to KO the Korsair ball-carrier. The ball bounced away from Butte and into the end zone, and a Korsair dodged in to pick it up and score. Butte started their next drive on turn 6, moving in immediately, but a Korsair dodged through for a 1d to down the ball-carrier. Butte got the ball back off a bounce, but it went to a Kicker who had already acted. Har Ganeth took him down with a -2d, and Butte could not make the next pickup, leaving Har Ganeth ahead at the half, though seriously outnumbered. Har Ganeth failed their first pickup of the second half, then snaked a dodge after grabbing the ball the next turn, but the Kickers also failed a pickup. They got the ball a turn later, but a -2d blitz from Har Ganeth again sprang the ball. Blodge and Side Step were problematic for Butte, but they managed to get the ball, and a snaked Korsair dodge let them score on turn 5. The kick landed in Har Ganeth's end zone, and one Korsair went back for it. The rest charged in, but were quickly cut off. Har Ganeth's ball-carrier went for a back corner, but their blitz on the nearest Kicker was Skulled, and his hit in turn found a Pow to dump the ball free. He grabbed it on the edge of the end zone but with no MA left. Har Ganeth finally called for their hoarded wizard, bolting the ball-carrier for a CAS, and took the ball back, but a snaked GFI put it back in play for Butte's turn 8, and the Kickers' ball-carrying specialists transferred it forwards to win the game.

AWC West vs. NWC East

Essen Exsanguinators 3 - Surrey Serpents 0

Surrey moved the ball up, but Hypnotic Gaze gave Essen a turn 2 blitz on the ball-carrier, KOing him and stealing the ball themselves. The Serpents fell back, surrounding the Exsanguinator ball-carrier. Essen moved him back towards midfield the next turn, but he was again cut off. A failed handoff dumped the ball onto the field, but into multiple Exsanguinator tackle zones, and Surrey Skulled a 1d block through reroll before they could try a pickup. Essen took down the Serpents near the ball, with the last one Side Stepping onto the ball, bouncing it into the arms of an Exsanguinator. Essen transferred the ball forward, stalling until turn 8 to deny a possible OTT. Surrey removed multiple thralls from the field during this time, though, leaving Essen shorthanded for the second half. Essen didn't make forward progress for a couple turns, with more thralls leaving the field to blocks, failed dodges, and Blood Lust. Surrey's kroxigor hit Skull/Skull on a block and failed Loner, and Essen passed the ball forward. The Serpents fell back to cut off the Essen ball-carrier, but the Exsanguinators used Gazes to enable a cross-field pass and took a 2-0 lead. The Serpents took possession and moved in, but Gazes and GFIs again let Essen blitz the ball free. The bounce allowed Surrey to recover it, but Essen blitzed the ball free the next turn as well. Essen then made multiple dodges, 3+ pickup, 4+ pass, 4+ catch, and more dodges to get the ball back near Surrey's goal line. The Serpents could only arrange a 1d on the ball-carrier, and did not find a Pow to stop the third score.

B.Aires Tangueros 2 - Lindisfarne Midnight Sons 0

Lindisfarne KO'd two Tangueros on the line and grabbed the ball. A third Tanguero was KO'd the next turn by Lindisfarne's top player, +ST berserker Hrolf Hardcat, but he then CAS'd himself on a failed dodge, drawing the apo to keep him in the game. The Tangueros fouled the other berserker out, using their bribe to keep the turn going. The Midnight Sons moved the ball in, but a blitz with their snow troll Frenzied into a 1d Skull, with loner failing as well, and B.Aires blitzed a path to the ball-carrier, marking him with multiple Tangueros. The AG4 ball-carrier snaked a dodge away. B.Aires grabbed the ball but failed the pass forward. Lindisfarne got it back, firing a Long Pass up to get it back to the other side of midfield. The receiver was right next to a prone ST4 Tanguero, though, who blitzed up to knock the ball free again. B.Aires took possession, surviving a return blitz and moving the ball up into a clump of Tangueros. A failed GFI from Lindisfarne let the ball move up further, but B.Aires ended turn 7 with only one Tanguero in scoring range. Lindisfarne's blitz couldn't take him down, and he dodged away to take a pass for 1-0. B.Aires started their second-half drive. Lindisfarne's first hit back was Skulled, and the Tangueros Badly Hurt a skilled lino and surfed a rookie for RIP. They did not protect the ball, though, and Lindisfarne got a 2d blitz on the ball-carrier, but suffered a brain-fart, rerolling Pow/Push in search of Pow when the blitzing player actually had Tackle. B.Aires moved the ball up more, but gave up another easy blitz on the ball, again survived. An attempt to hand the ball off to the skaven renegade was dropped, and B.Aires finally used their wizard, KOing the nearby Midnight Son runner. Lindisfarne killed a ST4 marauder and marked the ball, but did not try a pickup, and B.Aires used their elf to steal it away. Lindisfarne's final blitz failed a GFI, and B.Aires took a second touchdown.

AWC East vs. NWC West

Argentinian Caudillos 5 - Hollywood Roundup Gang 0

Pouring Rain looked problematic, as did the opening kick, to the very back of Hollywood's territory. An initial pickup fail crowded the ball forward a bit, but the Roundup Gang still got to it first. Both Down between two rookies did not work out for Hollywood, with their player out Badly Hurt and the other only knocked down. Argentina surrounded the Hollywood cage. A 2d hit from a Roundup Ganger came up Skull/Skull, reroll Skull/Both Down, and Argentina declined Wrestle to end Hollywood's turn abruptly. More, AV7 again proved a cruel mistress, with the Caudillo's armour holding, and the Roundup Ganger's breaking for another CAS. Argentina knocked the ball free and grabbed it. Hollywood took down the ball-carrier, but failed a dodge on the way to the ball, and Argentina got it and scored. The weather cleared up, and Hollywood divided their forces: some running in, some hitting on the line, the rest guarding the ball-carrier. Argentina harried the Roundup Gang, knocking the ball free once, but into the arms of another Ganger. A failed 3+ dodge on Hollywood's next turn let Argentina send the ball into the crowd again, and it bounced towards Hollywood's end zone, to be collected by a Caudillo for 2-0. Argentina started the second half in possession of the ball. Hollywood sent a wardancer after it, but he snaked a dodge to kill himself, apo'd to -AV. Argentina moved in and caused more damage. Hollywood's other wardancer made it to the ball-carrier on a blitz, but rerolled Push into Skull to stun himself. Argentina caused another CAS before scoring for 3-0. Hollywood was outnumbered 11-6 on the field by this time, and Perfect Defence denied them any good path forward. A failed dodge by Willow Rosebark ended one turn, and a failed GFI another, and the Caudillos took the ball for their fourth TD. Hollywood's final attempt at scoring had them trying a pass over a Caudillo catcher, who used Nerves of Steel and Catch to get the intercept, and Argentina made it 5-0.

Saphery Poets 4 - Stone City SkullCrushers 0

Stone City got a Blitz to start, but with a touchback Saphery retained control of the ball. The teams brawled for a bit, with 1d blocks failing on both sides, before Saphery passed the ball to a waiting Poet for a turn 5 score. Stone City moved the ball up, but did not get it into a cage, and Saphery blitzed it free. A failed 2d block from Stone City the next turn allowed an easy second score for the Poets. The SkullCrushers hit in the second half, but a failed 1d block ended their first turn before they secured the ball. A Poet grabbed the ball. He was taken down the next turn, but the ball bounced into another Saphery TZ, and Stone City failed the pickup. Saphery also missed a pickup, but the next Stone City attempt to grab the ball failed a dodge, and the ball bounced to a Poet. Stone City knocked him down a turn later and got the ball back, but Saphery made dodges, knocked the ball free, and grabbed it for 3-0. A Blitz on the next kickoff gave the Poets the ball, with a Both Down/Both Down block from a SkullCrusher giving Saphery their fourth touchdown. A failed pass by Stone City in the time left almost allowed a fifth TD for the Poets, but a failed GFI stopped that.

Just a heads up RRD.

There is a way to include the prior point totals from the 1st half of the season in the 2nd half standings.

You may want to look into this as it will keep the site up to date with your offline standings. It also makes it a lot easier for coaches to see exactly how far behind/ahead they are of their competition, and since the tournies are now intra-conference it will make it that much easier to see the WC slots.

I don't think you can do this for the TD/CAS numbers, but ryan should know Smile

At the midpoint of the season, with all teams having played seven games, we can compare the teams on an even basis, instead of needing to use percentages like I normally do. Let's see who is up and who is down, and who looks aimed for the playoffs as we pass into the back half of the season.

AWC

DW1: Argentinian Caudillos (4-3-0) - 11 points
DW2: Essen Exsanguinators (4-2-1) - 10
DW3: Vancouver Rot-Nucks (4-0-3) - 8
DW4: Colorado Chipmunks (3-0-4) - 6
WC1: Winchester Wicked Wrongdoers (4-3-0) - 11
WC2: Surrey Serpents (3-2-2) - 8

Just Out: Alethkar Shard Warriors (3-2-2), Slann Frogcisco 49ers (3-1-3), North West Walking Brawls (3-1-3), Nocturne Falls Honey Badgers (1-3-3), Los Angeles Reapers (1-3-3), Argentine Noldorins (1-3-3), Detroit Delvers (1-3-3)

The East is dominating the standings, with the Caudillos and the Wrongdoers both having more points than any other team in the AWC. With the pairings now up, we can see that those two teams aren't slated to play their second-half game until Week 14 - the last week of the season - so the fight between these two may go the distance. Regardless of who wins the division, though, I expect the other one to take a wild-card slot. North West has third place in the East, and would have to put together a nearly perfect run to take the division, but is still in the running for a wild-card slot.

The West is the other dominant division in the AWC, with Essen currently leading the division and Surrey edging Alethkar for the second wild-card slot, but a one-win lead could go away real fast against this kind of competition. Essen's first match of the new tournament is against Alethkar - the team that handed them their only loss in the first half - so the standings will have clarified some by this time next week. Slann Frogcisco, meanwhile, is in the same position as North West, as having the top teams concentrated in one tournament is both good and bad. On the one hand, they are facing harder resistance than they could have; on the other, every win they get is not only helping them, but directly hurting the competition for the wild-card slots.

Vancouver, despite being only a bit above 50%, has a solid hold on the North, three points up on their nearest competition (Los Angeles), and with the tiebreaker on them. The North is theirs to win. The South, on the other hand, will not be decided for quite some time. Colorado's six points is putting them on top of Nocturne Falls, Argentina, and Detroit, all of whom have five. None of those teams are likely to make wild-card, but any of them could win the division with victories over the others.

NWC

DW1: Nehekhara Guardians (7-0-0) - 14 points
DW2: White Rock Midnight (6-1-0) - 13
DW3: Green Back Smackers (4-2-1) - 10
DW4: Kansas Raptors (2-3-2) - 7
WC1: Butte Kickers (6-0-1) - 12
WC2: St. Luna Cardiac Cardinals (4-3-0) - 11

Just Out: New York Rats (4-2-1), Har Ganeth Korsairs (3-2-2), R'lyeh Regulars (3-1-3), Hollywood Roundup Gang (3-0-4), Lindisfarne Midnight Sons (2-2-3) - 6, Necropolis Priest Kings (1-4-2)

Nehekhara's perfect run has almost guaranteed them a playoff spot, but not necessarily the NWC North division win, with Butte's only not-win being the loss to the Guardians. Those two teams will have their second meeting in Week 13, nearly the end of the season, so the suspense will likely last until then. The Har Ganeth Korsairs still have a shot to get a wild-card slot, but their Week 7 loss has made that a remote possibility.

White Rock faces a similar challenge in the South, with St. Luna only two points behind them, but with a tie between them in the first half, the heads-up match - in Week 10, in this case - becomes even more important. The South is further complicated by the third challenger, New York, only one point behind St. Luna and gathering momentum

Green Back is a favourite to take the NWC West, with a win and a half on R'lyeh. The East, though - mirroring the AWC South - is a very close race, with Kansas having a one-point lead on Lindisfarne and Necropolis. With no hope of a wild-card slot, those teams will need to fight hard for the division win.

Your intrepid reporter was sidelined yesterday with a headache, but that just means more recaps for you today. Enjoy the first games of the new tournaments!

Week 8
NWC North vs. NWC South

White Rock Midnight 2 - Tamper Bay Baconeers 0

Tamper Bay stunned two Midnight on the line and fouled a journeyman out of the game, but missed the pickup with Zara the Slayer, and a Midnight stretched in to grab the ball. It took four Baconeers to take him down, but the foul on him did not break armour, and White Rock reclaimed the ball the next turn, screening at the goal line. The Tamper Bay trees had a long trip back, and White Rock successfully stalled until turn 8. The Midnight held the ball back in the second half while skirmishing with the Baconeers, only moving in once Stunty and Take Root had removed most of the threats. Zara the Slayer dodged free on turn 6 to viciously stab the ball-carrier for an MNG. White Rock snaked the turn 7 pickup, but Tamper Bay couldn't get to the ball, and White Rock made the turn 8 pickup for 2-0. Tamper Bay could not get the OTT.

Har Ganeth Korsairs 1 - Cleveland Children 1

Cleveland stunned two Korsairs and collected the ball. Har Ganeth moved up into contact, but Cleveland turned that around on them, using a reroll to allow a pair of 1d Pushes to surf one Korsair, and blitzing another down for a CAS. Har Ganeth still dodged free to take down the ball-carrier, and the teams brawled. Cleveland's wizard went 0-for-4 on a fireball, stranding their troll on the sidelines, and their way got worse when he failed Really Stupid. Har Ganeth chain-pushed him into the crowd, and then surfed a blitzer, drawing the apo to keep the crowd from ripping him to shreds. The pickup attempt hit a 1, though, and the ball bounced back towards Har Ganeth territory, and directly into the arms of a Child. Cleveland made GFIs to get near the end zone, hitting and marking. A Korsair hit the ball-carrier but could not take him down, and Cleveland scored on turn 6. Har Ganeth moved in, but Skulled a block before collecting the ball, and the Children swarmed the Korsairs. A failed Tentacles escape and then failed GFI ended Har Ganeth's turn 7 with only a couple players in scoring range. A perm on one of those drew the Har Ganeth apo, and Cleveland immediately permed the other as well, giving -MA to a Super Star witch elf. Har Ganeth started their second-half drive with only eight players. They removed a couple Children from the field on the first turn. Cleveland's ClawPOMBer took a Korsair out, but then KO'd himself on a failed dodge. Har Ganeth gang-fouled a Child for a KO before moving in. The teams jockeyed around each other, but a run and handoff finally got a Korsair clear with the ball. Cleveland inflicted more casualties on the Korsairs, but did not make it to the ball-carrier to stop the turn 8 touchdown. Cleveland almost got the win with Throw Team-Mate, but their reroll was used up on Right Stuff, and the last GFI into the end zone found a 1.

NWC East vs. NWC West

B.Aires Tangueros 1 - Saphery Poets 0

B.Aires brawled in. Saphery sent some players around to harry the ball-carrier. A snaked Poet GFI on turn 2 let B.Aires regroup. Saphery pulled the trigger on their wizard on turn 5, stunning two Tangueros and downing a third, but missing the ball-carrier. Poets pulled him down and grabbed the ball, but their ball-carrier was taken down in turn and the ball reclaimed by B.Aires. A Poet tried for a 1d hit on the ball-carrier, but only found a Skull, and B.Aires took the turn 8 touchdown. Saphery moved the ball in in the second half, but were quickly surrounded. They worked a Poet free with the ball, but the Tanguero rat dodged away to Wrestle the ball-carrier down, delaying the Poets enough for B.Aires to steal the ball the next turn. The Tangueros got the ball back up to midfield before the Poets took the ball back off a 1d, but B.Aires retaliated to retake possession. The B.Aires ogre failed a 3d block on turn 7 with the ball-carrier yet to act, not only ending the turn but perming himself for -MA through the apo. B.Aires tried a pass to score on the last turn, but found only 1s.

Kansas Raptors 2 - Necropolis Priest Kings 1

Kansas collected the ball but did not move in fast. Both sides inflicted damage, with two CAS and a KO each way by turn 4. A third Priest King took a casualty on a Both Down on Kansas's turn 5, again failing Regeneration, but the Raptor involved went down as well. Necropolis KO'd a skink and then killed the ball-carrier, leaving no skinks on the field, but failed their pickup. Kansas tried to protect the ball, but the second pickup attempt from Necropolis worked, and their ball-carrier took off down the field. Kansas's desperation kroxigor dodge didn't even make it past Bone-Head, and Necropolis took a 1-0 lead into the second half, but only after failing Regen on yet another CAS, leaving seven Priest Kings against a full eleven Raptors. Kansas moved in to deny Necropolis room to maneuver, and star player Hemlock took down the Necropolis ball-carrier with a Stab to knock the ball free. The Raptors had problems handling the ball, though, even with no Priest Kings around, and it took until turn 6 for them to get the ball and score. A short kick and a Blitz gave Kansas the initiative, but Hemlock failed a GFI and Loner while moving under the ball, and the bounce gave Necropolis a touchback. They handed the ball to a tomb guardian, who tried to blitz through his marker, but a misclick resulted in a dodge instead, which predictably failed. Kansas made rolls to pick up, GFI, GFI, and hand off, taking the turn 8 touchdown and the win.

Lindisfarne Midnight Sons 2 - R'lyeh Regulars 0

The Midnight Sons tore right into the Regulars, inflicting five casualties by the time they scored on turn 5 - all Badly Hurts, luckily for R'lyeh. A failed R'lyeh pickup let Lindisfarne run in and take possession, with the second score almost academic. With their KOs back, R'lyeh looked better for the second half, but still failed the first pickup. A snaked dodge from Lindisfarne gave R'lyeh the pickup on turn 2, though, and also let the Regulars MNG a Super Star berserker. The other berserker promptly KO'd himself on a failed GFI, and R'lyeh moved the ball up. A Skulled block kept them from screening properly, and the Midnight Sons knocked the ball free. R'lyeh managed to pick it up again a couple turns later, but failed a GFI to score. Lindisfarne got possession and ran the ball away from their end zone. R'lyeh never managed to spring the ball, and the game ended with no further score.

Green Back Smackers 1 - Hollywood Roundup Gang 0

Green Back punched in. Hollywood sent star Jordell Freshbreeze to 1d the ball-carrier, but he only found a Skull. The Smackers moved in, but failed a catch while trying to transfer the ball. Hollywood failed to bounce it away from Green Back's tackle zones, but the Smackers didn't try the pickup on their next turn. The Roundup Gang wardancer Leaped in to grab the ball out of three TZs, dodging back towards their own territory. They got the ball away and moved up, but Green Back amped up the savagery, CASing multiple Gangers, including killing a Guard lino. A lack of screeners finally let Green Back at the ball-carrier on turn 7, and they knocked the ball free, but failed the catch while passing it forward, as well as the pickup on turn 8, and the half ended with no score. Hollywood still had most of a team for the second half, due to inducing five extra players, and ran in quickly. The turn 2 4+ pass to score was fumbled through reroll. Green Back killed a catcher and ran in, but failed the pickup. Hollywood's wizard only took down one of the nearby Smackers, but their wardancer took the other one down for a Badly Hurt. Their thrower 1'd a dodge to BH himself, bouncing the ball to the wardancer. He was taken down for a stun, and Green Back got possession, moving the ball into a cage, then stalling for the turn 8 TD.

AWC East vs. AWC West

Argentinian Caudillos 1 - North West Walking Brawls 1

North West KO'd two Caudillos on turn 1; Argentina responded by niggling a rookie ghoul. The Caudillos managed to Wrestle down the North West ball-carrier on turn 2, and then bounce the ball away from the Walking Brawls, but failed a dodge to grab the ball themselves. North West MNG'd a Super Star catcher, who bounced the ball into the crowd, but it came down near the Walking Brawls, and was collected by a ghoul. Argentina again arranged to take down the ball-carrier, but again failed a dodge. North West bounced the ball into the hands of a Caudillo, but Tackled him down with their blitz. North West again collected the ball with a ghoul; a Caudillo again knocked it free, this time grabbing it on the bounce themselves, but again failed a dodge. North West grabbed the ball and transferred it forward into a cage. Argentina made the Leap in to 1d the ball-carrier, but did not find a Pow, and North West moved the ball into scoring distance. One Caudillo managed to mark the ball-carrier. North West's first hit on him did not take him down; they tried again with the ball-carrier, but taking Both Down instead of a push was a mistake, as the Caudillo had Wrestle, dumping the ball free. A failed Argentina Leap kept them from taking advantage, though, and North West made the turn 8 pickup to score. A North West Blitz on turn 8 denied Argentina the pushes they needed for a OTT. Another Blitz to start the second half again put the Caudillos on the back foot. They still found good blocks, forcing the Walking Brawls back, but a failed 2d block on the second turn left their ball-carrier in contact with a standing Brawl. North West hit the ball-carrier a couple times, but declined to Wrestle him down, and the Caudillos dodged free to score on turn 4. North West moved the ball up, but the Caudillos refused to give ground, stopping the Walking Brawls at the line of scrimmage. Argentina made a no-reroll Leap and 1d Pow to put the ball into the crowd, and it bounced across the field. A Caudillo made the pickup, but fumbled the throw forward. North West could not free their agility players to either move into scoring range or threaten the ball, but did lightning bolt the only Caudillo in scoring range to force the tie.

Surrey Serpents 2 - Slann Frogcisco 49ers 0

The fans started the game off by stunning a player each with Rocks, including Slann Frogcisco's induced chainsaw. Helmut Wulf made good on turn 2, though, blitzing up to cut through the collar bone of the Serpent kroxigor, requiring the apo to intervene and prevent permanent damage. He was KO'd a turn later, though, and the first move of the next 49er turn saw their krox 1 a dodge and fail Loner. Surrey bashed the forward 49ers, content to leave the ball unthreatened in the backfield. Slann Frogcisco's next turns saw their krox repeatedly fail Bone-Head, and they rolled enough dice and got enough failures to prevent any forward momentum. The Serpents finally got into range of their ball-carrier, taking him down and scoring on turn 7. A Blitz to start the second half got the 49ers in deep, but Surrey moved them off the ball and took possession. More 1s on Slann Frogcisco's next turn got Surrey past the line of scrimmage. The 49ers managed to blitz in on the next turn, taking down the ball-carrier, but missing the pickup themselves. It was Surrey's turn for a failure, with their kroxigor finding three Skulls on a hit and failing Loner. Slann Frogcisco grabbed the ball and moved back up, but the 4+ pass was fumbled after a reroll, bouncing into the crowd and loose. Surrey grabbed the ball. A 49er took him down and caught the ball out of midair, making a Leap to get clear, but then failing a GFI. The Serpents took the ball back, and a failed Leap from Slann Frogcisco guaranteed the second score.

Stone City SkullCrushers 1 - Winchester Wicked Wrongdoers 0

Winchester knocked down some SkullCrushers, but failed the 4+ pickup through reroll. Stone City MNG'd a Wicked Wrongdoer on the blitz, but the return hit from Winchester niggled a blitzer through apo. Another pickup was missed, and Stone City ran in, using their wizard to take down a couple Wrongders. Winchester did some hitting, and missed another pickup through reroll. They repeated this on their next turn, leaving the ball still sitting on the turf after seven missed 4+ rolls. A SkullCrusher ran in, making two GFIs to successfully grab the ball in one tackle zone with a 4+ of their own. The return 2d hit did not take down the Stone City ball-carrier, and the SkullCrushers Powed the marker on their next turn and scored. Winchester restarted with three turns left. A touchback gave them immediate possession without having to make any pesky pickups, and they ran in. Stone City got players in front of the drive, forcing the ball-carrier to outrun his screen, and then made dodges and found a Pow to spring the ball, sending it into the crowd. Winchester could not make the dwarf pass to score. The weather turned rainy for the second half. Stone City used linemen instead of blitzers to do initial hits on the line, and the ensuing Both Downs ended their first turn early. Winchester pushed in. Stone City dodged their ball-carrier in and passed forward. Winchester pulled back and took the ball-carrier down, but Stone City again dodged over to grab it, making a long cross-field pass to a catcher. He was taken down in turn, but the pickup was again flubbed by Winchester. Both teams failed more pickups, and the ball was crowded far across the field, toward the Stone City end. A Wrongdoer made the pickup in the rain and one TZ, but then KO'd himself the dodge. Stone City got possession and moved in, but failed a GFI. Winchester made the pickup on turn 7, but snaked a GFI through Sure Feet while getting into scoring range, and could not grab the ball on the next turn.

Going into this game, I was on the fence as to whether to let myself love the Children or not. But I think the answer is now, yes, we're a real thing going forward. Maybe playoffs have to wait, but we plan on maiming all today's contenders so we can be tomorrow's champions! Been practicing in Ranked.

Welcome to our next look at individual player awards, where we recognize individual effort instead of team success... although the one often leads to the other. Here we go!

Quarterback - Passing yards + (2 * completions)

"Funky" Friedemann Friese of the Essen Exsanguinators has taken a large lead in this category. His 14 completions are slightly ahead of second place, but his 64 passing yards are almost double the nearest competitor, giving him a QB rating of 92. Jenif McDowell of the White Rock Midnight is second with 12 Cps and 34 yards for a 58 rating, but missed a week to an ankle injury, and it has yet to be seen how her reduced mobility will affect her throw rate. Crimsonwolf II (10 Cps, 28 yards) of the Green Back Smackers rounds out the top three here with 48.

Receiver - Total TDs (tiebreaker: total SPP)

Juan Manuel de Rosas II of the Argentinian Caudillos got his second hat trick of the season to continue to dominate this category with 10. New challengers have taken the second and third spots, though: the misnamed Larson the Claw of the Butte Kickers and Ratt Snell of the upstart New York Rats are tied with 8 TDs and 29 SPP on the season. Interestingly, Butte and New York are playing each other during Week 8 (which presumably means tonight). Shootout time!

Running Back - 5*TDs + Rushing Yards

Mr Boddy of the Winchester Wicked Wrongdoers holds on to the lead in this category thanks to his 207 rush yards and fourth-place 7 touchdowns. Like the Receiver category, we have had some turnover below him, though: stat-freak Emmitt Stiff of the Nocturne Falls Honey Badgers (6 TDs, 178 yards) is second, while +MA/Block/Sure Hands skink Mervyn Fernandez (6 TDs, 164 yards) of the Surrey Serpents has become his team's go-to ball-handler.

Blocker - Most CAS (tiebreaker: least blocks)

Nocturne Falls used a healing potion on their top player, Legend Reggie Wight, and he responded with a personal best 4 CAS in his latest game, giving him 11 on the season and a lead in this category. Hrolf Hardcat of the Lindisfarne Midnight Sons and Skillet of the Butte Kickers each put in three-CAS games recently for nine on the season, putting them in second and third - Hrolf winning the tiebreaker for efficiency.

MVP - Most SPP (tiebreaker: most MVPs)

I am becoming less happy with this category as a whole, since the random MVP allotment seems to be a very large factor in it. I am interested in what people think about changing it to only look at earned SPP - that is, SPP from Cps, TDs, Ints, and CAS, but not MVPs - with the MVPs still being a tiebreaker.

By the current formula, Mr Boddy is in the lead here, with his 38 SPP and three MVPs putting him over Juan Manuel de Rosas II (33 SPP, 0 MVP) and Crimsonwolf II (32 SPP, 2 MVPs). The proposed revision would put Juan Manuel de Rosas II in first, followed by a three-way tie at 24 SPP and 1 MVP between Larson the Claw, Ratt Snell, and Uwe "The Reaper" Rosenberg of the Essen Exsanguinators. Let me know what you think!

All Purpose - Cps, TDs, CAS (highest category counts normal, 2nd highest double, 3rd highest triple)

Crimsonwolf II (10 Cps, 3 CAS, 2 TDs) is tops here with a score of 22, ahead of a four-way tie between Uwe "The Reaper" Rosenberg (5 CAS, 4 TDs, 2 Cps), "Funky" Friedemann Friese (14 Cps, 1 TD, 1 CAS), Jenif McDowell (12 Cps, 2 TDs, 1 CAS), and Jenif's teammate Aaron Thude (4 TDs, 3 CAS, 3 Cps). Aaron deserves special recognition for being the only player so far to have at least three in each of these categories.

Yup. The official announcement, from the PM thread:

"The official stance of the NWFL is that the Healing Potion provided as part of the Two Million Match celebration is allowed for use on players in the league. However, any such use should be done while the team is in Postgame (P) status. Once a team has been Readied, no player on that team should be healed until after the next game.

Any incentives from other sources, including but not limited to the Potions, Resurrection Scroll, and Magic Sponge that were available as part of the Kickstarter campaign, are not allowed in the NWFL, as these were not made available to all players."

Have fun!
