Macavity i have never played BrickWars, And i would argue that The who have lasted just like them and yet are not charging £200 bob a time to see them, also The Who have created and pionered so much more than them.

Many of you big fans for Zepplin i see but what in your view sets them apart from the Who , i mean they both have massive epic rock tracks( The Who; baba oreilly and wont get fooled again. Zepplin; Stairway to heaven), ledgendary albums( too many to name I'm sure for both bands) , but to me the who also have the shorter more catchy and accesable tracks , My Generation, Substitute and Cant explain to name a few. do Zepplin have anything similar

More catchy Tracks: Whole lotta love, Rock´n´Roll, communication breakdown etc.
But for me its more the experimental things like The Ocean, Kashmir, Achilles and of course No Quarter etc) that makes them special. Ever watched the Music Film "The song remains the same"? Never saw a rock Band play like this;-)

If we are gonna play the experimentation game , i will just put forward to albums of pure pioneering experimentalism , the first real concept albums Quadrophenia and Tommy a rock Opera, totally origional. And as for individuals in the bands i would argue that 3 of the who if not all were leaders in thier own fields.
Moon on drums he has a mupets character inspired by him "Animal"
Entwisle on Bass, Pretty much without question the greatest bassist ever whatever way you look at it
Townshend the only one who could really rival Hendrix in guitare playing and those who saw him at Live 8 shoudl have seen that even now he plays like a gad

Worst cover ever: Chantal Kreviasuk's "Leaving on a Jet Plane" Drum Machine + Folk Song = The Suck

Though that whole, "I'll be Missing You" was pretty freaky.... Who looks at a song about stalking, and goes, "You know, that would make a great love song with some minor adjustments"? Freaky-Deaky.

Townshed does not play like a god. He plays like a 16 year old with a book of power chords and a 3000 dollar guitar. Clapton literally plays like a god. hendrix too, and jeff beck if you like expirimental guitar sounds.

As far as the rest of the band, entwhistle is great, because he had to play both the bass and rhythm guitar at the same time to make up for townshend's crappery. In all though, there are much better out there, geddy, flea, and jack bruce to name a few.

Moon was also a great drummer, but he had the same thing for every song; beat the hell out of the skins and fit as many 32nd notes in as you can. I can't imagine him doing well on 11/8 time outside of a studio. You know who could do that? Ginger Baker.

So, after that, what do we have? Cream is the best british band of all time.

I am learning Macavity, i am learning.
Ok maybe in terms of technical ability Cream were the best (although i hotly contest this your clames on on townshends ability are false in everyway Destroyer Dabes) but what did they create a few phycadellic albums yeah but not many stand out albums that will be rememberd forever. The who have done that and so much more, i mean they hold the record for the loudest concert ever (held 1968 Charlton Football ground , not sure about the date, they were band from ever playing there again)
bahhh now who is the anorak.
and as for moons timing u just need to see the Kids are alright that proves that moon was not all about smacking Drums as hard and fast as possible, just a significant part. lol

And as far as cream go , u need an awsome front man, daltry out does clapton everytime. although i wont despute Mercury as the greatest ever

daltry's march is the only thing you need to see to know that he is not a great frontman Smile good god, did he think it looked cool?

as far as loudest ever; good job, townshend has impaired hearing. If only he had impaired eyesight as well, he could have claimed ignorance on his kiddy porn collection

Ok lets not go there Destroyer Dabes , he was researching a book , a book on child abuse as he was himself abused as a child , He was foolish to look at it but he was not doing anything evil, just foolish.

hehe, ok, his personal preferances have nothing to do with the music, your right, but I still don't buy that crap excuse. Apparently I'm writing a book about adult nekid women and its because I have an oversexed adult life Twisted Evil

at any rate, I will agree to disagree on the topic of the who, and I will leave you with this vague and overused reasoning on why townshend sucks. I have played guitar for ten years and I can play every townsend hook better then he did. Take it from a musician, townshend isn't good. respond to that!!

yup, well Im a big folk man too mac, might get a few Belle & Sebastian albums now, similar to Nick Drake, who was a really good guitarist himself, Roy Harper/Harpur was pretty good too, as far as I know Led Zep wrote a song about him Smile

Also, Im probably the biggest Louis Armstrong fan there is Smile

Also, I hate the streets, to whoever mentioned them before... peotry maybe.... but naaaa some of his songs sound like he is just reading off a sheet Laughing

Not a chance, the worst cover ever was Daphne and Celeste's teeny bopper version of "School's Out".

Well Destroyer , so that this doesn't get nasty I think we should agree to disagree on townshend , I know many musicians who say he is exelent, but I am not one so I can only give the opinion of a listener not a Player. ( he wasnt just a guitarist he could create music as an entirety as his later solo work proves).

So what if u can play all of his Hooks HE WROTE THEM and they are amazing , the mini opera Quick One While he is away is just ^ fonominal hooks crammed into 8 minutes and on Live at Leeds its mind blowing.

I hear what Mac and BrownRob are saying with folk music, Nick Jones absolute ledgend as was Nick Drake , but Richerd Thomson is a living ledgend in the folk scene.
