No. Not the movie. This 300.
For those of you who don't know, Sean Howard is a webcomic artist (honestly, if you like webcomics, go check A Modest Destiny. It's the best I've ever read) who has worked in the gaming industry before. Anyway, since he has an urge to make videogames (or something like that), he decided to post 300 game mechanic ideas in 300 days, hoping that he'd be so sick of it that he'd never want anything more.
So far (up to #16) I think there have been a lot of interesting ideas, but I'd really love to play the time travelling strategy game(Time Spy).
The way I see it, it could be RTS, although it would take a lot of computing power. Anyway, 2 guys play a normal game of RTS. But the catch is, you can say "Oh btw, your tank has a bomb in it" and the tank will blow up.
But the other part of your team (both teams have a commander and a spy), the time spy, will then have up to that time (say, it happens at 15:00) to actually plant that bomb into the tank. Blowing the tank up might have saved your base, but if you manage to f* up the time-space-continuum by triggering a non-existant bomb, your team loses.
Of course the time travelling thing would be tough to do in real time, but hey, The Specialists has slow motion in multiplayer  . Like mentioned on the page, the point would be that the spy can't be seen by any other units - they didn't see him while the commander played, and you can't change the past.
Anyway, what do you think of the mechanics posted so far? Are they all boring, or were there some interesting ones? Discuss plskthx |
