Hi All,
What is the "Added die roll tallies near the end of the log file."?
Is it this?
D6: 1(34) 2(25) 3(22) 4(25) 5(23) 6(17) Total(146)
D8: 1(5) 2(5) 3(0) 4(2) 5(4) 6(3) 7(5) 8(2) Total(26)
What is used for?
Thanks,

A lot of people requested it so they can see how the rolls are spread. This was due to extensive discussion whether the randomness of the dice rolling in the java client is actually random. From your example, we can actually see an unlucky game, but the spread is pretty close. Here is another spread which is even closer:
D6: 1(159) 2(129) 3(144) 4(167) 5(158) 6(150) Total(907)
D8: 1(5) 2(3) 3(4) 4(1) 5(3) 6(5) 7(0) 8(3) Total(24)
I think this shows that the random number generator is ok. |

Hey, so Ski has finally added this feature... good job! I remember Janzki asking for this waaaaaay back... Now you can show people the stats when they are saying stuff like "I rolled nothing but 1s the whole damn game!" ![Wink](./modules/PNphpBB2/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

i think the only problem w/ this is it doesnt seperate your blocks from your other rolls. i mean really, if you have block and your opponent has dodge, you're better off rolling a 2 than a 5. it also doesnt show that you rolled 2 skulls and a pow, thereby a success, even though you rolled 2 1s. 3s and 4s (and sometimes 5s) dont ever amount to anything, but when you're dodging/throwing/catching/landing, there can be a BIG difference between the two. but i still think its a step in the right direction. good job ski

It doesn't matter what you needed, or if the dice were d6 or block dice, the only point of including the dice statistics at the end (unless I am greatly mistaken) was to finally shut up those who persist in believing that the random numbers are not giving a proper random distribution. |

slackman42, isn't that sort of thing reflected in the luck percentages? |

no monty, the luck calculation is completely worthless. im not going to waste my time explaining it here, but lets just say if you roll a 1, use a rr and roll a 2 and your luck still goes up, theres something wrong.

I think dice should be seperated from blocks. In my last 8 games, my FF rolls has been 1, 4 times. For one team it went 6 games in a row, regardless. Block dice of 1's perhaps skew it. Or perhaps, its more the luck factor
needs to be redone.
Sure rolling low on armour breaks is good, but rolls that cause turnovers should make the luck meter even worse. |

Though this is the spirit of these kinds of statistics, it's unfortunate that you'd need a good 100,000+ rolls to prove anything about the Java Random() functionality. Including these numbers after 150 rolls only gives a whiner more chance to whine, because in so few rolls you're bound to see streaks. People who tote "I'm rolling all 1's" will only ever look at the 1's distribution anyway. They won't see when things go smoothly because of good rolls because that's what should've happened anyway! Right? ![Smile](./modules/PNphpBB2/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |
