There is a white bar blocking bottom of the client window making. I'm unable to chat either in game or spectatormode (and don't know what other elements are hidden).

From the FAQ

Q: The client shows a terribly ugly "Java Application Window" statusbar at the bottom. Can I remove it?
A: Yes, you can. Go to your Control Panel, and open up your "Java" settings. Switch to the Advanced tab and expand Security. In there, you will find a checkbox to remove the security banner in the sandbox mode. Toggle that off and you should be rid of the status bar.
Something similar should also be possible on other operating systems.

Q: Using Linux and the Gnome Desktop a white bar appears at the bottom of the screen, prohibting the use of the chat.
A: This is a known issue with Gnome and the Java JDesktopPane (InternalFrames) in that Gnome renders a toolbar inside the application. The only workaround at the moment is to use a different Desktop (e.g. KDE) or Windowmanager.

Correct, working with Xfwm, too.

Q: It is only Gnome -feature then or semi-bad layout design in client.

This bug have just been found in Gnome and Kalimar have found no way around it. Apparently Gnome does not translate Java the same way as all other OS:es.

The reason is in fact the desktop (JDesktopPane) used inside the client to place internal windows (JInternalFrame). A desktop in Gnome has a statusbar apparently and there is no way around that. This statusbar disturbs the application layout however. It works in all other environments, but not in Gnome Sad
