Would you give BB7s a try?

I'd for sure jump into the special kick-off event right away!

Yeah, but I'd rather give it a try in open play, doing some friendly games first.

Sounds interesting, but I'd wait until it proves continuity.

Heya,

just a quick poll. BB7s will finally kick off again (under the new ruleset) soon and I'd like to get at least a little idea how big the player base will be in the beginning.

BB7s is a fast-paced, fun league where teams with only seven players face each other. Some basic characteristics:
  • 7 players per team
  • number of positionals cut down to half, no big guys (except for halflings and goblins)
  • no team re-rolls
  • no stars and wizard inducements, extra-training limited to 1 RR, chef only for halflings
  • no use of petty-cash
  • drafting system: players will get drafted to the professional leagues on a more or less random basis (at the moment as soon as they reach 4 MVP awards); practically the player gets retired
  • open play, mini-leagues, SMACKs and special events throughout the year

Some quotes from the evaluation of our recent test phase:

"I liked how fast-paced the games were and the fact that (even more so than in regular BB) each player counts -- a good performance from one guy can turn everything around. I also like how different skills have more/less value than in the normal game... it seemed more "open" strategically in terms of building. I loved the open field -- it's much harder to implement a caging-based strategy, and passing is more viable if your guys have the skills for it. And then there's the lack of rerolls... definitely an element of luck, but also a situation where you can't make a bunch of cheap moves to build SPP. You actually have to do the positioning. I like that."

"Quick game, no need to wait for the 2nd half an hour long while one team is crawling through the opposition is a bing boon."

"I like 7s in the new format. I think inducements works great for 7s even if the inducements under 7s rules are not as effective. And yes, early injuries hurt (as they did before), but really, is you can't take it with a smile, don't play 7s. There are lots of ups and downs in 7s, so early bad luck is never an excuse to give up, your opponent is only 1 dice roll away from failure too!"

"FUN FUN FUN"

Edit:
Added another nice quote.

Edit2:
Some information added to the characteristics.

You heard right, it has been zero RRs in the past and during testing. One re-roll might be discussed (it has been proposed), but I think the majority wants to keep it the way it is.

hi rabe, what about the gobbo, dark elf or skaven on a chaos pact team, could you use all, none, one or two of them?

Aw shucks, why not. Never tried it before, but some fast-and-furious could be fun.

Since you ask:

All three renegades are allowed (at once), none of the big guys.

Goblins and halflings even get both of their big guys!

Edit:
Not one, but two big guys for the stunties, my mistake.

Really not a fan of the 4 MVP rule, BB7s was the one place where I absolutely loved ageing because of how it was used. Seems there is much less chance now to develop and teams/players that skill slowly get hosed. (the likes of Saurus and BOs even moreso) Admittedly I'm biased as playing Chaos I need a fair few games to get competitive. High MVP# to total SPP ratio.

Saying that it'll help stop clawpomb and something needs to replace the draft, I can't figure any other way of doing it myself than having aging as a toggleable option for league admins even under LRB6. (similar to how they can pick the four optional rules now for the client).

Still, will give it a go no matter what if starting up again. The last time I played was an absolute blast!

Alternatively you just have a league-"admin" make an "aging" roll in chat.

I like 7s, I really love the concept. However I do think there's a balance issue. Also the removal of aging has removed one of the most natty parts of 7s.

Still anyone thinking about having a go, I would recommend it.
