I guess the real problem is the prohibitive cost of mercenaries. The extra 30K per merc is excessive when you're just trying to have your team at parity. Loner rookies aren't that great.

What hurts them the most is Guard/Mighty Blow becoming a secondary skill for them. It seems like an unnecessary nerf to me.

It takes a special effort to come up with rules that make ageing look good, but they did it.
