Since i 've changed ISP , the mIRC i'm using let me connect to the chat but it looks like i cannot send and receive messages.
At connection time i'm getting the following messages :
Couldn't look up your host name
No ident response
To solve the problem i've tried without success to :
Re-install the mIRC
Modify the settings i.e. Options->Connect->Local info
leave the fields "local host" and "IP address" blank
tick the boxes "on connect, always get local host and IP address"
Lookup method: server
I also tried with my new e-mail address within the mIRC to no avail.
Switching to another chat didn't help too.
For info i'm running two computers :
Windows XP PRO SP2 with mIRC
Mac OS Tiger with Xchat (same issue)
Any suggestion would be appreciated. |

My suggestion is to try the java applet chat on fummbl and test if that works. If you are having problems there as well, then at least it's not mIRC, but rather ISP related trouble. Don't really know what to do about it, though. |

Same message and result.
Well i also contacted the ISP but they answer that this kind of problem is out of their scope of supply. |

I had similar problems with IRC, I started using chatzilla seemed to do the trick. |

Could be that the relevant ports (6667 to 6669 and 7000 iirc. Could someone confirm?) are closed.
Checking that should be within your ISP's scope of support.
Also: Are you running any firewalls on your computers, or is there one set up on your router? The ports could be closed off there. |

This is not a problem with your computer(s). This is an issue which resides solely on the IRC server. Basically, you need to tell the IRC server that your IP address has changed (because in your case, you have a new ISP giving you a new IP address).
Take a look at the registration and authentication page of the user guide. In particular, scroll down to the Hostmasks part. |
