FUMBBL :: Online Blood Bowl League

After more than 30 hours of HTML fetching plus with some extra hours of programming, I can start to announce some stats of FUMBBL/2013! Originally I wanted to timed it for the birthday but I failed this time.

Perhaps you remember my post of FUMBBL Masters which I promised to redesign after the end of year.

Well, let's see the Top Performances of 2013!

To enter the analysis, a coach have to have at least 26 matches with a particular race in a division, which means he or she played with that race in at least every two weeks. This made the sample.

For the coaches who entered, W% was calculated in the default manner:

W% = (won + draw / 2) / games_played

Next, I determined mean and standard deviation of win ratios. You can see those values inside the brackets of the "Qual" line below each performance table.

To represent performances, I introduced Score. First part of the score is the Base:

Base = 1000 · log(games_played) · W%²

To get the Score, Base has to be multiplied with a logistic Multiplier (Why? Go to OenarLod's post.):

Multiplier = 1 / (1 + exp(-2*(W%-W%_mean)/W%_stdev))

Next, a Qual score was determined with games_played=26 and W% = W%_mean + W%_stdev. You can see the Qual value below each performance table. A coach have to have a Score greater than or equal to Qual to get onto the top list.

Finally the Scores were determined for each coach of the sample and those who qualified were listed. Enjoy and prepare for more stats soon!

Thanks for the interesting data! I just take it as a given that those tables show me who excels with a certain race.

Now, I know that the qualification score varies, but what does one roughly need to get in (besides at least 26 games played)? A winning ration between 45 and 55%, depending on the contenders?

I didn't get the match part and admittedly didn't even try - in English I understand even less of it than in German. I'm just curious what I should aim for, in case I want to be on that table at the end of 2014! Very Happy

If you have the minimum of 26 matches, you have to have W%_mean + W%_stdev to get onto the list which means you are in the top 15.9% by win%. However, you can trade some win% with games played: As you can see, CroixFer made to the Ranked Vampire table with a W%=60.84%. With only 26 games played, a coach would need 0.4820 + 0.1885 = 67.05% to get onto that list.

Since the mean and standard deviation of the win ratios are based on all maches of the year, there is no exact barrier there. You have to beat the rest of the coaches. Just try to make a good performance, thats all! Smile

Alright, thanks for the explanation!

A winning ration of 70% shouldn't be a problem for either me or the Agility Monsters. I think I'll aim for 75%, to have at least a little challenge.
