Obviously this would take some lead time and a lot of promotion beforehand, but I'm wondering if it's ever been tried:
A 24-hour tournament. Everyone starts with fresh teams at 0h00 BBT and has 24 hours to play as many matches as possible. Team records are checked and the tourney ends at 0h00 the next day. If the results from the last game haven't been uploaded yet, tough titty.
It'd be like a regular tournament, except time management would become a crucial factor -- the longer you take with one match, the fewer games you'll play overall. Anyone can play anyone else, but you have to bat the cycle before you can play the same opponent again.
I think it would start getting really funny after about the 18-hour mark. |

Shep, you're a genius!! I could never manage to participate (since either work or time with the woman would be cancelled), but I'll bump the thread in hopes that it happens! |

If it does, it won't be until April -- I am in and out of town on business until then, and can't afford to roast a whole weekend on this until my life stablilizes.
But I'm pretty psyched for a 24-hour beastly marathon in two months, boy! I'm sure you can break up with your girlfriend by then. |

Isn't "Girlfriend" the Amazon star player with spikes?
Or was she the Witch Elf freebooter? |

Resurrecting this idea (after several months)
My life is calming down a bit... how would people feel about 24 hours of mayhem on Sunday, May 14? From 0h01BBT to 11h59BBT ... 24 hours, as many games as you can swing, 12 or so teams. Not a fixed "round robin," but you have to bat the cycle before you can play the same team twice.
Obviously this will require very, very dedicated coaches for a very, very short timeframe. OTOH, you won't have any trouble finding games.
Stable Internet connections and the ability to connect direct an asset.
Caffeine addiction also an asset.
The one flaw in this cunning plan is if somebody drops out after 8 hours or so... what do we do? Kinda screws the whole "round robin" concept.
Probably (U) teams at TR100. LRB teams only. Max two teams of any given type. |

I'd like to try it. But I don't see myself as being able to go 24 hours. Now what would be REALLY insane is a 1 v 1 24 hour tournament. You'd be able to play like 60-100 games each. |

Very interesting - Chances are I'd be up for it .... though i think the last few hours would be a challenge for me
8:30am local time is a nice time to start .. as long as its a saturday
One thing to consider -- if you start at 0:00 BB time, there will be some people starting as early as 11:00 the previous day, and as late as 11:00 the following day. This could rule some people out simply due to it being a friday when they start, or a monday when they finish. Not so good if you work during the week |
