straight to the topic, I'd like to discuss the insights of a house rule that would see a roll of 1+ freely rerollable and a roll of 0+ as automatic success without needing to roll:
2+ still have to roll, fail on 1
1+ still have to roll, fail on 1, free reroll
0+ no need to roll, automatic success
what's the good and bad you can see in introducing stuff that I'd call "chess-like" in a dice based game?
the pie is over there |

I might not be understanding it properly, but wouldn't this only affect Ag5+ players? |

I'm thinking about any kind of roll that could happen to be done at 1+ or better. Ag, St for break tackle, and so on.
yeah, it would be a huge boon for high ag players that would probably have to be balanced somehow. |

I think you'd have to change too much about the game for that to be a good idea at this point. It could have been an interesting direction for the game to have gone in though, as a kind of "alternate universe Blood Bowl". |

Ag 6 would be huge, be able to freely walk through people, even if they have tackle, and never risk snakes. |

Maybe the free rr for 1+ action could be ok, but automatic success is against the design of the game in my opinion.
Probably it would be better to replace the d6 system with d8, to represent more gradually the "nuances" of different Agility values.
An Agility table like this, for example, using the d8:
8 before or after modifiers always succeeds; 1 before or after modifiers: always fails;
AG 1: 8+ required on d8
AG 2: 7+ required on d8
AG 3: 6+ required on d8
AG 4: 5+ required on d8
AG 5: 4+ required on d8
AG 6: 3+ required on d8
the Action modifiers are the same as normal system (for example +1 Pick Up modifier, +1 Dodge modifier and so on). |

I agree that autosuceed is to powerful and it would be a huge buff to elves, but your system requires a complete rework of the game. If you wanted to do a minor modification I'd say keeping the system as is, but if you suceed on 1+ or better you get a reroll on a one, if you suceed on 1? the reroll need 6+ to succed if 0+ then 5+ etc. You could also use expading dice sizes so suceed on 10 becomes suceed on 2+ for a d7. Of cause flexible dice sizes only really works on a computer programed to do that since AFAIK there are no d7 or d9s (through you could replicate some of them). |

@awambawamb: what are your reasons for it? |

my reasons to do so is to add a bit of certainty to some actions in the game. you know that something can happen, so how can you mitigate it? like chess.

imagine yourself tackling a tractor. |

OMG, that violates my sense of Blood Bowl. Like, my mind rebels at this concept: I'd be pretty damn hard-up before I joined a league with this house rule. But it's a board game, you know, so go ahead and have fun any wrong way you want. |

I like to test stuff. I'll make sure to invite Jimmy Knoxville...
I also recognize that the implication of unavoidable results in certain situations might lead to ending the game earlier than T16. |

1s are always fails, 6s are always successes, therefore if you had a 1+ and rolled a 1, it would always fail, thats how I think of it. |
