Well, Silly, I'm open to negotiations. Keep in mind, I'm the guy who is most proud of his no-tree fling team! Pulling off the occasional win with a "non-standard" army is awesome in my mind! I am getting in to it with 4 co-workers all over the age of "over it by next week" so...... we'll see. I also LOVE miniatures. I own D & D miniatures I've never gamed with! So, let me know what you will part with, for what, and money orders may arrive! (might wanna move to PMs, though) |

Harlequins are nowadays an elite choice for the standard Eldar army. But if I remember correctly, there are only standard harlequins, and then there are Shadowseers. No Jetbikes, Solitaires or Death Jesters anymore... |

Oh I think there are, I've got the new Eldar Codex and I think it has at least Solitaires and Death Jesters. I'm not sure though, I should check. |

Please check it if you have time. I don't have the codex and now it's eating my brain away not knowing. |

You can have up to 10 Harlequins as an elite choice and can upgrade 1 to a death jester, 1 to a shawdowseer and 1 to a Grand Harlequin, and as you are allowed 3 eleite choices you could have 30 harlequins in an army.
They have got a bit worse in the change from 4th to 5th edition though as the rending rules have got abit of a nerf.
Having played 40K for almost 20 years i think that 5th edition is probably the best of them. Sure 2nd edition was cool, but a lot of people forget how long it took to play and the rules for close combat and vehicles were very clunky, not to mention the pain of working out what happened to blind grnades every turn.
Mind you i still think 40K is GW's weakest game, fantasy and LOTR are both much better as are most of the specialist games.
I have a huge Black Legion Chaos army and a space marine army of my own devising as well as a 200 strong Squat army that will get painted up some day. Plus loads of other bits and bobs that i've bought for various convesrions, sadly not for sale though mac. |

I do have some eldar and some nids (about 1500 pts of eldar and 1200 pts of nids), but packaging and shipping from europe might make them too expensive for your liking.
That being said, I'll join the chorus of people warning you away from W40K. The reason I could be pesuaded to part with my figures is that it's, frankly, shite as a game. Sure, it seems fun the first few times when you're still learning the rules. But eventually, it all boils down to building an army and placing them on the board. Nearly all armies have some sort of über 36" or 48" range weapon, that makes maneuvering redundant, and picking the right units for your opponents army (for eldar, that would be dark reapers and brightlances vs. marines, chaos, necrons, scatter lasers vs. nids and imperial guard etc) will winn you 9 matches in 10.
Warhammer Fantasy is not without its faults, but as a game it's still better designed. If the thought of painting several hundred figures for 2-3 regiments doesn't appeal to you, there's an alternative though. Prvateer Press has 2 quite excellent miniature games, that use similar rulesets. You can even play armies from the two rulesets against each other, if the fancy strikes you. And starting armies usually consist of 1-2 large models, 1-5 medium-sized models, and 1-10 small models so it's cheaper and faster to start up than warhammer. Plus there's resource management (Focus for Warmachines, Fury for Hordes), multible abilities to choose from for every unit, and nearly every unit has tons of wounds, but loses progressively more abilities as they get injured. I find it way more fun than W40K, and I strongly reccomend you give it a try if you can find it demoed anywhere.
[edit]
Oh, another sweet thing about Privateer Press games: Every miniature comes with little stat cards that summarize the stats and abilities of the unit. Buying a new codex every 2 years is a thing of the past. |

#@*$*% Heck, Ulm! I made a commitment to these people, now you show me Hordes! A curse on you, and all your progeny! May you feel obligated to give me free miniatures for all eternity!
P.S. smiley, smiley, and all that. These guys aren't pre-painted, are they? |

Well, mac, if you sway that easy you weren't really commited from the beginning... And your friends probably know you as well as we do... perhaps even better.

Yeah, they lectured me. It's largely a money thing, though. My solo entertainment budget is small, so a $50 play out of the box army is very appealing..... |

If you need a reason to play 40k then it does have one thing in its favour: loads of people play it, if you move suddenly then you can still be sure of finding some games. However, I still advise against it
Mac, are you and your mates just looking for something to play between yourselves rather than as part of a larger club? If so then have you (or your mates) looked at some of the other specialist games? They are a ton of fun and several of them dont break your wallet. The one I'd recomend is Gorkamorka because its relatively light on both troops and terrain while packing in ALOT of fun. Also if you're looking for options (which you arent, but just in case ) then Elfball is pretty cool too.
Dunno if that was useful but it was worth it just for the potential confusion it could cause you |
