Day 21: Played the manly Christian Warriors today. saw v. attractive fellow in the third row and stopped to have a friendly chat. wasn't gone more than five or ten minutes and whole team fell apart. silly bints. can't do anything without me.

Ruttinz saw me talking to muscle-clad fan and got all jealous. even went so far as to feign a broken neck. soo not interested.

good news - even though we lost, still the prettiest.

CHRISTIAN WARRIORS 2 - STILL THE PRETTIEST 0

Lawrence the Elf started the day by racing down the right sideline. Bishop Albright and Saint Paul raced over to greet him. Saint Paul, in his haste, tripped over his robes ..... twice. A distracted Lawrence then (forgetting he was a CATCHER) tried to pass for a TD and dropped the ball. Saint Paul and crew then escorted Lawrence into the crowd where he watched the remainder of the game. Warren the wardancer soon followed and the Warriors were able to take a 1-0 haltime lead.

The 2nd half started with a wild melee that saw the Warrior fans toss the ball from sideline to sideline. The Warriors managed to retrieve said ball and score for a 2-0 lead. Then an overzealous convert tossed Gidean's bible onto Elf Roger's head, SIing him for the remainder of the game.

The rest of the game was pretty uneventfull except for elf lineman Ruttinz who yelled "I'd rather die than pray to your god" and promptly jumped on a jagged rock and died.

Pity

They are Still The Prettiest, but we are the holyest.

Dark Flames of Hashut 2 - Slave Uprising 1

http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=match&id=272827

Ah, the sweet sound of rattling chains and little Goblins crying in misery. The slave rebellion has been broken (along with a few Goblins) and the Masters reasserted their authority.

A tight game against a really good coach, the Dwarves' Tackle proved too much for the poor little Gobbos (that they lost one of their Trolls on each of two drives didn't help much either....) and little green bodies were flying off the pitch left and right, fortunately none hurt too badly except the freebooter who was hired for the match whose broken leg and niggling injury likely ended his career.

The entire game was played in a driving blizzard which kept both teams conservative in their movement for most of the game. Flames' player Marghub Abd-al-Fattah almost sent the game into overtime, however, when, attempting to get over the goal-line before the Slaves' wizard could roast him, he tripped and fell on his second GFI, while trying to score the winning touchdown. Luckily for the Dark Flames, Bull Centaur Sa'adah Muhyi-al-Din managed to stun the Goblin with the ball, Grubsnack, without it bouncing out into the crowd and the Flames' Hobgoblin Naqash scooped the ball up and ran in the winning TD.

Great game Shaq, we look forward to our re-match when the cross-over games are finished (where it looks like you're going to get Chaos Dwarves again for the first round.... Rolling Eyes ).

Da mastas caught us... and beat us to a pulp... Dey just knew how to catch us. And those taitorous Hobgobs.. you'd think dat they would help us, and escape... back in chains between games, with a Chaos dwarf for a coach.

A close game, but tackle skill killed me. It seemed whenever I'd doge from someone who didn't have tackle, I'd always make it and not need it. Whenever I'd dodge away from someone WITH tackle, I rolled a 1 or 2.

Sorry Christian Warriors... Looks like you'll get someone else to play now... Sad

My hat's off to Lurking Grue, who used those !$%#&@% dwarves to their fullest... Smile

Alright.

Well, we had three games left unplayed at the end of an extended round, which is becoming sort of par for the course.

I believe, through observation and conversations I've had with some of you, that we have a core (and, in truth, I believe it's a fairly large core) of coaches who are committed to the league and I'd like to continue, for their sake as well as mine, but I guess I think I need to know where we stand and how you think we should go forward.

I haven't done it yet since I think their feedback could be valuable, but I more or less plan to continue to cull the coaches who are not playing. However, at this point that would leave us with five teams in each division except European Saints, which would have four.

Which, actually, isn't as bad as I'd feared, at least it's somewhat balanced, but if I managed to work out a schedule for it I'm beginning to lose confidence that I wouldn't have to work out another change after the sixth round.

So, what I'd like now is to hear from each of you, whether you're interested in continuing or not (for those of you who might be concerned, this isn't intended as the beginning of the end -- I'd be willing to continue even with a severely reduced roster) and anything that you might have to offer as to how we can improve the league and/or make it more stable.

A few issues I find myself pondering:
    * Is eleven days too few to get the games in?
    * Am I being too harsh in booting people after missing two games and thus destabilizing the league? Is there another, better solution I'm missing?
    * Am I overreacting and everything is really fine?
    * I don't wish to offend, I expect it's not a reflection on the coaches but on the difficulty scheduling, but I'm thinking I made a mistake inviting the Aussie coaches to join if they thought they could play according to one of the other regions' schedules -- a lot (though by no means all) of the missing seems to involve these coaches -- is this a common perception?

Eleven days are not to few for me. If you are going to make a round longer, I dont know, if I would play in this tournament. If I have a long time between matches I loose relation to my team.

I think you should boot people who miss many games. And you should look for coaches who have the time to play. If they need 2 weeks, then take them and make the round 2 weeks long. But never keep coaches who dont make their games.

I think if two coaches are willing to play a game they allways can find time to play it. I allready played in this tournament agains an australian coach and the timeshift was not a problem.

I agree on all points with NNNchef.
And a round should not be more than 2 weeks or it become to long between all the games.

If a coach is not playing his game without a good reason, i'm fine he will be kicked. One game per 11 days is fine for me.

I really would like to see this league continued. Preferably with fewer coaches who are committed then with new coaches who will disapear at sight of their first casualty of their team.

As a coach who has just missed a match, I would like to see the league go on(preferably with me in it) One game per 11 days should be fine(unless you're computer dies:cry:)

11 days ought to be more then enough...

I'm sorry I haven't been around enough lately to play my matches.
I'm around to be caught, I just can't actively hunt for my opponents lately.

Wouldn't mind being booted to even the numbers or some such.

I would love this league to go on! I'm having a lot of fun with it, and reading the various match reports is funny as well... and besides, I have some gobbos to pay back.

As for 11 days, that is long enough. Kicking out coaches who miss 2 games is a good idea, as it will keep the season rolling... and people will have to compromise when it comes to time... so don't you worry about that.

Bendrig (and others) - it doesn't matter if you are around alot or not. Being in a league means taking responsibility and contacting your opponent (PM) to say - i can play at X, Y, and Z times this week .... which one works for you.

Too many people pop in and out of chat "hoping" to find your opponents. This doesn't work.

Grue - 11 days is more than enough - if something unusual occurs to one of the coaches they can PM you to let you know what's up and then make an exception. (because real life things DO come up - we all know that). I wouldn't add ANY new coaches because there is no guarantee they will be any better.

I would cut down to an even amount of teams. Ask everyone who wants to stay committed to send you a PM. Those that do will be the remaining coaches. Then try and work out a schedule as close to the original one as possible. (ie - 2 divisions from NA with 5 coaches each instead of 6 works. The only diff is 1 team from each divsiion would play a cross over type match each week. or 1 team gets a bye week. It's up to you.)
