Problem launching client

When I launch the client manually, my opponent gets an "invalid team" message and I get a blue screen. When I do a stand alone game it works fine. Also, the "play" launch button does not work, I get a "java.net.MalformedURLException: unknown prototocol : socket" error message and then an "unable to launch the application" message.

I use windows vista, java 6.21, recently reinstalled skijunkie and the patch, and followed the instructions at

but it always reverts back to the default option.

Any thoughts?
