Fluffwise, the catchers actually fit.
Slann catchers were portrayed as 'interceptors' (as well as catchers I guess). However Slann hands are not suited to throwing the ball, so they were never given throwers. Catchers are also the only Slann players to be ag4, which fits with my catcher. Slann had special intercepting rules. They've also tried to replicate that with VLL, but not so successfully. I do really like what they've tried to do with slann, it's a whacky and weirdly described pack, but they always were.
Goblins and Halflings used to both get catchers. However not throwers, as stunties do not make good throwers (aka the stunty passing rule). Everybody however loves a stunty chucking a ball aimlessly and a big crowd of stunties fighting over it.
On a similar theme, skaven couldn't take kickers, as their feet aren't suited to kicking. However, there was a Skaven Kicker miniature! |

I like the catcher idea |
That would be the most game breaking addition ever. |
really? would they become Tier 1? |

It would be interesting to see the win% of fling teams with +ag halflings vs the win% of teams without.
Having 4 +ag halflings guaranteed along with the Strong Arm trees would I believe (without working out all the possibilities) make a TTM OTTD an odds-on action with a re-roll and a decent kick. |

I don't have my books with me, but I believe they didn't have right stuff. We set the stunty catchers up that way.
It's a 'look I'm a positional, no way is it my job to risk my neck like that' type deal. Where as a standard fling or goblins, needs to be as amenable as possible to get on a team. |

Yeah, I like the way the Leeg ones work. The Plasmoid NTBB ones are just ag4 halflings though. |

Big guys should be gold though, in my opinion. Who wouldn't want to field a Minotaur or an Ogre? The rules make them a liability, but the fluff makes them awesome. I think they should be the latter |

I've repeated this many times, but it looks like I have to do it again...
AG4 out of the box mean every team will have AG5 players (just like most fling teams have AG4 players now, after a few games). And with 3 other AG4 to catch the ball, you will end up playing absurd games where you one/two-turn as soon as you have the ball since that would be safest option. Games would be determined by whoever snakes a pick up or landing roll (snake the landing, and lose the game; or steal a touchdown after a TTM if your opponent snake the pick up).
So yeah, that would be dumb, lame, and I wouldn't play flings anymore if that change was to be adopted.
Simply because teams like this would ruin all the fun:
Catcher 1: +AG (and / or +MA): Catch, Sure Feet, Sprint
Catcher 2: KOR, Sure Feet, Sprint, Diving Catch, Catch (or SH)
Catcher 3: backup for catcher 2
Catcher 4: backup for catcher 1 or 2
PS: HM, the "flings had catchers in the 2nd edition" argument is flawed: they indeed had catchers, but they didn't have any tree. |

You could add a tree if you wanted, there was fluff for trees. My point is they didn't or there's reasonable fluff for them not having 'right stuff'. |

I personally like to see positional players in teams that do not have them.
Such as halfling catchers. All teams having lineman and at least 3 positions would be interesting. |

What I'd like to do, is have races with build options.
Halflings for example
0-2 ogre option
0-2 tree option
0-4 catcher option
0-1 Star tree option
0-1 chef and hot pot option (maybe)
Famous teams (take the 2nd ed player option)
as an example for flings |

I like races to have positionals, but not for the sake of it. Some races don't suit them, like Vamps for example.
It'd be great to have roster options possible, but then I'm a big fan of the Ally rules from the BB Compendium where you could steal a % of players from other rosters. My Chaos All-Stars had Dark Elves, Chaos Dwarves and Rat Ogre
Maybe not the most balanced in hindsight, but really fun.
The roster I've changed the most is probably the alternative Pact one, but that is a bit of an outlier. In general I steered away from adding new player types.
I'm hoping someone will post their own go at it soon |

mister_joshua: Orc Linemen currently show a quantity of 6+. I'm assuming that is a typo, and that Orc teams aren't required to carry a minimum of 6 linemen?
Some interesting stuff there! |

good, because I haven't read it
some good points there.
However, wouldn't score-as-fast-as-possible halfling play just end in a 1-2 grind loss? |
