That's 5 different profiles for the same spammer. Probably not the best first impression for newcomers.

In fact, including the new blog, make that 6 profiles. Dirty spambots with their new tactic of not being bots...

Hi everyone. New coach of a skaven team. I never played before, but I see some videos and I really want to play BB. Wish me luck.

Welcome to the site Lustriano_de_plata. Try and ignore the recent spambots. If you've never played before then expect to lose a few games but it's a great community of fun players on here who are all more than willing to help you out.

Best place to start is possibly ranked division and play a few games there. It lets you pick which team you play against so I'd try and play vs a good variety. Don't get too attached to your team either as they'll probably take some knocks along the way.

Then it might be worth having a look at the 145 club which is a league designed for new players.

If you have any questions then it's a welcoming forum. Also have a look at the first post in this thread for good advice links. Good luck.

Hey Smile

So I thought I'd introduce myself. I actually first discovered BB back with 2nd Edition. I think I might have talked my folks into buying me it as a birthday or Xmas present. I dutifully painted my models. Badly. I think an attempt at the Reikland Reavers ended up with my plastic humans looking like bits of popcorn they were so gunked in yellow.

I found a little shop and bought some Dwarf blister packs and the death-roller. Obviously. Those guys were painted a little better, but for some reason I chose a very un-Dwarf rainbow warrior colour scheme. Why were 2nd Edition Dwarves so small anyhow? Did they literally have Dwarfism? I mean how does that even work.

I didn't actually play very much BB at all. I only had one friend into GW stuff, but hey I loved the idea and this crazy football-fantasy world. I cherished all the fluff in the rulebook and the handbook. I created my own teams, end zones and even pretend leagues. Long life the 'Moonhelm Orcs'.

A few years later I moved and a couple of years after that I met another kid who introduced me to anything and everything. Fantasy Battle, 40k, Epic. None of it really took with me, I didn't have hundreds of pounds to spend on an army. Then came 3rd Edition and Necromunda and I was hooked. Team/Gang based skirmishing ftw.

We alternated between my 2nd edition astro-granite and his 3rd edition pitch. I even went to the trouble of painting an old bit of wood my father had kicking around in the garage. After a weekend of work the actually kinda decent 'Crapwood Stadium' was born.

We played out a good few games on that swamp green grass. My 'Blud n' Gutz' Orcs, lead by the ST4 Blizter Grommit Spinebreaker, tended to play a distinct second to his ****ing flukey cheatin' b*****d Dark Elves. Ahem. We only ever had a couple of other kids even vaguely interested, so league play was tricky. My friend and I tended to have 2nd or 3rd teams. Besides my Orcs, my other major attempt at team building was the 'Mon Calamari Cruisers' - Wood Elves painted like Rebel Alliance X-Wing pilots.

A couple of semi-legendary games sealed our friendship. Usually with the Orcs constantly failing to break armour, eventually giving up on being Orc-y and somehow finding success via thrower Fagazh Sorethroat's unlikely long-bombs.

We would do what probably thousands of others did at the time and create fake Spike style magazines, with fake ads, new rules and invented star players. I mean you guys must have heard of Nippa Pedalpower the Goblin unicyclist, right?

Anyhow, my friend moved away. I kept an eye on Blood Bowl from a distant, but never really found the time for PbeM games or things like Chaos League. I got older and other things took over. Sometimes I'd visit my old friend, he'd found a proper league to play in and we'd play a game out of nostalgia. On these occasions I would tend to go home with my tail between my legs and my spuds torn off and handed back to me in a little bag.

Skip a bit brother...

That 'niggling injury' that Jervis caused in me 20+ years ago has blossomed again. My mind these past few weeks has been obsessed with creating new Blood Bowl teams, player names, gimmicks and so forth. I finally got it on with Fumbbl.

Sadly, I'm still rotten at this game. I mean SERIOUSLY rotten. Take a look at my profile! Check out those Orcs!! My girlfriend is showing the upmost patience as I slump upto bed of an evening, my bottom lip scrapping off the carpet as I mutter about the futility of existence. She's done so well to avoid the words "It's only a game".

Now the thing is, I know I'm still really new, I know there's much to learn and I know sometimes the dice just kill. I've been reading the strategy guides and trying to ape them. I'm asking in matches and being told by some polite, cool coaches that I've just had really bad dice roles in key moments, but it can't JUST be that.

I mean sure it feels like my thrower fails to pick up the ball 9/10 times.
It feels like my Orcs have some kind of pathological fear of scuffing an opponents armour. It feels like I must had peed in Nuffle's cornflakes in a previous life, but I know there's only one guy rolling these dice.

So this an appeal (for just £2 a month...). Guys. I need a mentor. I need a coach. I need to stop sucking this much! Heck I don't even care about the losing, I just wanna TD!

Help me Fumbbl, I only wanna be your friend.

(And then stab you in the back behind the ref's back).

Ok, here is the thing. I suck at this game. But if you don't want to, chat with your opponents. When you find a friendly one, ask for advice during/immediately after the game. Let them criticize specific actions right after you've taken them (I mean, let them take advantage of your mistakes first, and explain after). Don't try and figure it out on your own, take advantage of the experience available.

And never eat pie. Or waffles.

You don´t need A mentor. You need a bunch of them. If only fumbbl had an organization of amazingly heroic, incredibly good and mostly sexeh superheroes of mentoring.

Edit: What i want to say: Follow the link to the Fasculty of Academy instructors, and ask for training matches or advice via the link provided there. We are a lot of coaches willing to do training matches, constructively criticise your matches and so on - different timezones, languages and races we play, so one or more of us will be able to give you some advice... and Welcome to Fumbbl Mate!

@Swan: so, I watched the fist 3 turns of this game that you played vs madmatt13. For a start, zons are a fairly tough matchup at low-ish TV, with only 1 tackle. My top 3 comments are:

Orcs don't need 3 reserves at 1400 TV, with their blanket AV9. I would say 1 is plenty, as you shouldn't expect to lose many players. Also, I think two gobbos is a questionable use of TV - what are they for? It might be worth having 1 to try for the occasional one-turn throw-team-mate TD, although it's a fairly desperate play. I definitely wouldn't have fielded one at the start of the half, as it's just a weakness that your opponent can exploit.

In general, it's not good to blitz with your big guy, as they are unreliable with the really stupid, plus lack of block with loner. I noticed that you blitzed with your troll a couple of times in the first two turns, although it didn't do you much harm (but it could have).

My main comment is around positioning. On your first turn, you clustered your players around the ball, but didn't try to pick it up - why was that? That allowed him to swarm your position and surround you with his players, which meant you got kind of bogged-down and came under a lot of early pressure. I think it would have been better if you had created a tight 4-man cage and picked up with your thrower, whilst spreading out the rest of your players to prevent him from flanking you so easily. He blitzed your gobbo on his first turn and you got a bit lucky, because he failed the go for it. You were also very lucky on your 2nd turn to get away with a 6+ dodge with your black orc, which could easily have caused a turnover.

Also, always field 4 blitzers with orcs, as you need their blocking reliability and (relative) speed. I think you need to improve your match-choosing (picking) skills as well, as this was a tough match-up, playing up 200 TV vs zons with only 1 tackle. Choosing 4 cards for inducements was probably sub-optimal as well - you might have done better with either a chainsaw/bombardier, plus a bribe.

Just some thoughts ..

Welcome Swan, you'll fit in nicely around here Very Happy

Keep having fun in the same way with team creation naming and history - In fact, you should recreate those tabletop teams here, they sound awesome! Also make some team logos & pics for the players for extra fluffiness.

8 2 3 7 Sidestep (excellent co-ordination & practice), Leap (tricks) & Mighty Blow(bikes hurt when you crash them into other humanoids)

As far as getting better as a coach, check out that link that Reisender provided, they can provide you with quality feedback. Most coaches coming from a casual league background find Fumbbl a rough start, but you'll get there!

edit: here also is a link for new player information.
