Mighty Q: Great topic. Im behind you. Sometimes I wonder if some of the "evil" coaches are just plain evil because of all the cherrypicking? I know what a lot of cherries does to my stomach Wink

Arktoris: Point taken. You always have nice enthusiam for what you do Smile

While I do not play academy (take a look at my teams and tell me if I need more, cripes I got 16 U teams now that ladder and DivX are gone), I still think I can comment. I don't think you disagree with me on this, but with limited free time, and all of it spent on fumbbl, the best way I can help new players is to give my opinion in this format. Not everyone can go to Africa or a similar needy place (including plenty of spots in the US) to help out the poor, sick, or downtrodden, but if we are aware of someone taking advantage of people, the least we can do is speak out about it for change, sometimes even try to shame or expose those who take advantage, etc. IMO, It's the same concept as letting your children going to school to be taught by others but listening to your kids talk about school, look at their assignments/grades, and listen at PTA conferences. Just because I don't go to school to teach them too will not mean that just yapping with encouragement is a waste of time. In a forum, writing your opinion is an action. When I hear people gay-bashing in the main chat, I don't just watch and ignore it, but I also cannot find out who the people are and give then a diversity lesson. Instead, I type in, "there is nothing wrong with being gay." Anywho, I think I agree with you more than disagree, so I will stop ranting.

Uh, no, not at all.

I don't participate in [A] right now, because I don't feel like helping people with the baby steps right now. I did so in the past, and I might feel like doing it again sometime. But right now - I would not be much support to the division and probably wouldn't treat newcomers with the patience they deserve.

That doesn't mean I don't care about the division. I stay away from it, for now (which might or might not change) particular because of that.

And Celas said it so much nicer. Smile I am staying away from any discussion on how to improve academy, or change it - as I am not involved. But I'll protest against something that I feel is an utter misuse of the division and potentially damaging to a community I like as a whole.

Well Celas, you have a valid point. Especially about limited time budget. I apologize to those who took offense on my comments about inactivity.

I've only spent a whole two days in #fumbblacademy, but the only complaint I've heard so far, is the lack of opportunity to play.

Even if you don't have time to game with them....please come to the channel and talk. Tell them about good skill combos...what to purchase next....how to recognize cherrypickers....and how to determine if a game is a fair match up...etc etc.

We get half the coaches in FUMBBL asking those things in main chat anyway... Razz

I really hope people enjoy their Academy games for whatever reason they play them, because there is close to no conversation of any kind going on in the new channel. The socialising of the old school was what kept it fun for me. Without this "carrot" I'm afraid my impulse to help new people has fallen (this goes mainly for whole teaching games - I'd still help out if anyone had questions, but those are primarely asked in main these days it seems).

sad fact of the matter is, acadamy can be used to build unranked teams quite easy
and with no immediate losses on record, anything goes

Agreed with sk8bcn, watched Imerikol play some new rats with hes khemris the other day: only some advice in turn 1, then silence and fouling all the way to the end. Lame lame.

Maybe he's just trying to teach them what kind of teams to avoid. Just in an hour long proof kind of way they won't forget. Rolling Eyes

hmmm... now who is in charge of Academy? Is it mikafreak? well one thing i could suggest is something like a "FUMBBL Academy Teacher" which would appear just under your team name so new guys could easily see it, how would this be given out you say?

well once you have proven your worth as a teacher (lordsnotball springs to mind) then if possible, the league admin, would be able to add the logo to your team, or else, your coach info... trying not to turn it into a trophy here... or something could be added to the side as good coaches to play against in academy, failing that, aking them ops in the academy channel?

Not an image. At least not on coach info/team page. It's far too easy to fake that. Same with any form of text really.

It's that kind of attitude that says it's ok for it to happen. Well, it's going to happen so why not now.....

yeah why not.

Why A so? I mean if it was designed to help newbees out, but if cherrypicking ( Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes ) and team destroying ( Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes ) is ok then why A? They'd better go to R after all. They'll learn anyway and encounter those behaviors.

I STILL firmly believe that the Academy can only fill it's purpose if:
-experienced coaches try to help out
-not to bluid team
-not to feel so good since my team has a 23/1/1 record yeahhh I am so great... Rolling Eyes

Meech proposed a way to limit the behavior (if total games>100) then no move to U.

Kar' answers that it would limit the number of teams LFGing.

Kar' if you let the wolf -nope better said the hiena- come to the sheep, I don't see how it could be interesting.

Couldn't be a teacher rating be a nice solution?

if a player has less than CR 140 OR 50 registered game, he can vote for an experienced A player. good teacher/not a teacher.

experienced coach lfg would be highlighted + % of good votes (if votes are >=10)
