Best Elf Race in the Box!
Well, the summer is over - and so is my experiment to see which elf race would do the best in the box over a prolonged period of time (3+ months)

1. Embrace Joy (Pro Elves) - Games Played: 31 (24/3/4)
Certainly a bit streaky - started 15/3/0 before losing 2 straight games, won 9 straight, then lost last 2 games. Overall, a lot has to do with 1 bad game having carry over effects - essentially two bad games resulted in their four losses. They still proved to be the best of the elf teams - if only by a slim margin. They are the race I find most fun to play since they excel at scoring. As the stats show - their TD diff is more than +2 per game...means they are not winning 2-1 very often, but able to blow out a lot of opponents. This does expose them to more LOS blocks and hard to keep the team built up. For a while they had a MBPO catcher that inflated the CAS inflicted stats considerably.

Stats:
TD Diff: 64 (92 - 28)
2.97 TD/game
0.90 TD against/game

Cas Diff: -51 (31/15/10 - 55/42/10)
1.81 CAS inflicted/game
3.45 CAS suffered/game

2. Embrace Anger (Dark Elves) - Games Played: 28 (21/3/4)
Their survivability was much better than the pro elves for sure - and overall was the best at building up of any of the elf races. At the end they were 1920 TV, 12 players and 150k in the bank. By comparison, the other elf teams struggled to stay above 1750 and even if they reached that mark, they did not stay long. Something has to be said for the famed Dark Elf toughness - over 1 less CAS/game suffered compared to pro elves. A very different play-style than the pro elves - as most games were 2-1 wins. They lack the quick strike ability that I enjoy in elves instead having a toughness that allows them to bash with many teams.

Stats:
TD Diff: 36 (60 - 24)
2.14 TD/game
0.86 TD against/game

Cas Diff: -10 (30/15/5 - 31/19/10)
1.79 CAS inflicted/game
2.14 CAS suffered/game

3. Embrace Honor (High Elves) - Games Played: 28 (19/4/5)
It seems I should like this team with the faster catchers reminding me of pro elves, but the tougher armor on the linemen to give them durability like the dark elves...however, instead they seem to have the worst of both instead. Not as tough as dark elves and without the same high scoring offense. Instead they just plod along - really just a lesser elf in my hands at least. I always feel like I should be getting more out of them - but they just lack identity - and as their record shows, they were very underwhelming in the box.

Stats:
TD Diff: 33 (61 - 28)
2.18 TD/game
1.00 TD against/game

Cas Diff: -39 (22/13/4 - 49/21/8)
1.39 CAS inflicted/game
2.79 CAS suffered/game

4. Embrace Life (Wood Elves) - Games Played: 15 (7/2/6)
and Embrace Hope (Wood Elves) - Games Played: 11 (11/0/0)
After the disaster that was Embrace Life, we decided to just play with the other three elf races, but were convinced to give wood elves another shot - and Embrace Hope has shown their potential with 11 straight wins including winning Black Box Brawl LXXXIX. They currently are in second round of another brawl. Of note - Hope did not start with or ever buy a treeman...while Life started with and kept a treeman. Everything just started going wrong with Life as they lost a lot of players early and it cascaded...but Hope showed just how good wood elves can be if they do not suffer too many injuries. Is it just luck though? Hard to be sure how to feel about wood elves - they are the most explosive and unstoppable race at times...also seem to clear the pitch of themselves awful fast at times.

Stats (Embrace Life)
TD Diff: 4 (28 - 24)
1.87 TD/game
1.6 TD against/game

Cas Diff: -21 (18/4/2 - 24/16/5)
1.6 CAS inflicted/game
3 CAS suffered/game

Stats (Embrace Hope)
TD Diff: 23 (32 - 9)
2.91 TD/game
0.82 TD against/game

Cas Diff: -24 (6/3/1 - 23/10/1)
0.91 CAS inflicted/game
3.09 CAS suffered/game

Conclusion: It was fun to run all the elf races at the same time in the box. All else aside - I enjoyed the competition between the elf races as to whom would do best and enjoyed playing them in the box...and at the end of the day - having fun is what matters :)

Pretty accurate description of my experience with high elfs. :)

What is it about High Elves that keeps them from reaching their potential? Is it simply that 2 Blitzers is not enough and 4 Catchers is too many? The Dark Elves flip those ratios (although Witch Elves aren't exactly Catchers) and they seem to do so much better at TV above 1750. I like the High Elf Thrower, but the rest of the team just seems to be lacking... something.

Its just really hard to build up the HEs relatively speaking. I would say that a really high and well built HE can be better then a DE though.

In the unlikely event I ever coach a team to a 19/4/5 record, I'll be sure to remind myself how underwhelming it is. ;)

Good post though, as always, Azure.

A statistican will tell yov that the margin by which any race has performed compared to each of the others is reaaly too small to draw any clear conclvsions.

One or two good players are likely to have had a very stong effect as well, ie the impressive cas score for pro elves led by a pomb catcher.

However, interestingly the statistics confirm ovr own bias and expectations towards which race is good for what, good stvff.

I would read it as woodies, then Pro elfs. Anyway, the more claw you´d see the more those two teams shines of course. As in an environment higher up. I'm guessing the key is to get a big big war chest first however not just rush skill players, as always with elf teams (outside of box).
