Stunty kind of makes +AV a risky idea unless he's already got good skills and you want to protect him. I'd always go MA over AV, hope he gets a +ag and use him for trollthrowing.

There is really no downside to choosing +av over +ma here.

In the end it's a very cheap player type, that will quickly be overpriced with any skill up. Increasing his survival chances is significant and the boost from av6 to av7 is the statistically most significant boost a player can get for survival.

The question with protective skills is usually what makes a player worth protecting. A ma7 player for instance may rather be worth protecting. A ma8 player even more so. So there is your dilemma, but it doesn't necessarily have to end up with that one choice:
+Ma is something you only need on limited amounts of players. On a carrier and potentially a receiver.
Players may obtain other skills. You will find yourself in a struggle to decide whether you want to keep a healthy goblin around once he has too many skills. After all two skills already double his value at his incredibly high vulnerability rate.
There is also the consideration with block which is also 30 TV and probably offers better protection than +av.

It's tough but my advice would be to potentially take +av over +ma post Block skill up.

But in general it will never be a terrible choice.

FYI - goblins are AV7 and MA6, not AV6 as Wreckage alluded to. Still, going from AV7 to AV8 is pretty good, but so is going from MA6 to MA7. I think it really depends on what the goblin already has. If it is the first skill, this choice will set his development. I think I'd go +MA on a rookie and try for a TTM specialist because it requires less doubles. But Wreckage makes a good argument for +AV on an already skilled player, especially one with Block or Wrestle.

I d go for MV over AV as first skill or on a +AG gobbo. For a block one I can see the case for AV but I think I'd still go MV. Personally, I have taken AV just once on an injured gobbo that sets up with the trolls in the los.

The reason AV doesn't work is your opponent will then go and pick on someone else. He won't run out of AV 7 players to blitz. AV MIGHT be worth it on a player you want to leave in contact with the opposition. I.e. big guys, particularly the wild animal ones with av 8.

+MA and there's so many reasons

1. Better TTM
2. Better Assist/Really Stupid handler/fouling range - sideline to sideline.
3. Skill access to skills that make him even faster

AV isn't terrible if you want to stick him on the LoS, I think. Higher AV on the line means you're less likely to be playing down menz from the very first turn, and he can keep soaking up those blocks either being in the way or by marking dangerous Big Guys and the like. If he survives that abuse, he can get SS/DT to be a real sticky bastard, or maybe get some doubles or other +stat to be worth protecting as a quality player.

And if he doesn't survive the LoS, great, TV bloat problem solved! Assuming the rest of the team is rookies I'd probably take the MA, but there's a place for +AV gobbos, I think.

+AV everytime. Gobbos weakness is partly their armour - the more armour they got - the less likely they are to leave the pitch!

I think +AV for TTM because his armor is less likely to break when he crashes to the turf.

MA5 is pretty bad for TTM from the los (60% chances to throw the midget far enough)
MA6 is quite good already (about 83%)
MA7 is amazing (94%)
MA7 + Sprint is godly (you are SURE you will throw him far enough)

But... Trolls have 2 neg traits that can screw your TTMs, they don't come with Strong Arm, and AG3 landings are a prayer to Nuffle.
