Bye bye teams!
Much to piggy's chagrin I will post a blog entry about retiring my teams (but not quitting!)

We had a sermon in church today about Fixing our hearts on things above not things below, and I realised that once again I was seeking glory by playing bloodbowl. Seems pretty pathetic to see it written down, but there we go. My thoughts even when not playing were sometimes about my bloodbowl teams and that is a good indication of idolatry. So, bye bye teams!

I shall be thinking more about Jesus and trying to gain glory for him by telling anyone who wants to hear about the great news of Jesus' death and resurrection. If you want to know why this is so amazing, then pm me and I'd be very happy to chat to you.

Enjoy bloodbowl, and remember, I'm praying that you learn to enjoy Jesus more!

(Oh, I'm not quitting before anyone asks, but I will be here less as my wife is due in 2 weeks with our second!)

Kids will do that...........i mean stop you playing BB not going to church.

My 4 year old hates church and my 1 year old just sings in the wrong places, so i'm teaching them BB instead....only joking i send them round my mums.

Wow, another one!? NICE!!! With all that time your better half spends at your parents, it's a surprise you've found the time!

See you when things have calmed down mate. :D

Yeah now i have a chance to win a major. Now only need another 500 coaches to find faith or get knocked up.

gratz on the baby, now get ready to play who is the favourite child game
Posted by Purplegoo on 2009-06-15 08:21:05
You kept the right team to seek real glory anyway. ;)
Posted by Melmoth on 2009-06-15 09:40:06
First of all: Congratz on your baby. I really hope all is going well for your wife, for you and for your new family member.
Second: Wanted to write something on this religious thing but felt my english is worse then the things I needed to say to this. So: Good luck with your way but be careful.
Posted by DanTitan76 on 2009-06-15 09:46:36

I only see one good reason to do what you did.

Take care of your wife, and I hope you enjoy the cute gorgeous blond little Woodroffe!

WTF? You listen way to much on the priest...
I'm sure BB is excluded from the gloryseeking below.

And no, I'm not crabby cause you beat me with a team that would win XFL or GLT or what it was... =o)

Another baby? Don't you know where they are coming from? There are safer ways, you know.. ;)
Posted by Archevol on 2009-06-15 13:28:26
Gratz on the new podling!

The Jesus thing isn't news tho'. It happened a while ago and I'm sure I've read about it in the papers since then...

BB is a boardgame. It is easy to separate what is idolatry and what is a hobby you love. I'm sure you want to follow your beliefs as closely as possible. However, I'm also sure that you can see the difference.

I'm sure you've also felt the same feeling doing everything for which you have a particular talent (I think that's a given, here).

If you get attached to the pixels, that's because you're probably a more pacifistic person than you'd care to admit. And everyone deserves to feel pride when they achieve something in a competitive peergroup, which this is.

That doesn't mean you idolise success, a game, or pixels. Just means you're human.

I look forward to speccing your next success on the pitch. 8)

You Jesusfreaks are so utterly crazy. =]

I honestly envy you for your ability to believe in all that stuff, tried umpteenth times myself actually, but it never worked out. Unfortunately it's completely impossible for me to take that stuff seriously, sigh. :(
Posted by Russo on 2009-06-15 18:22:25

Well mate, if i had known what an impact I would have made on you BEFORE I came down and visited you I would have chosen to stay away!!

I mean I feel very sorry that my magnificent aura has messed you up so much. Its actually very commomn amongst those that have been in my physical presence to show signs of loneliness and depression.

but don't worry your desperate plea for help in retiring all your teams has not gone unnoticed. To make up for inflicting this pain on you I have decided to come and live with you and your wife as your washer-upper. That way you will be happy once more :D

Seconded.

erm pete blood bowl is just a break from reality! i see it as something fun to do when the rest of the family is in bed.

I cant wait to see some new pics of the Young'un and i Am so happy that a good man like yourself will be a father of 2.
best wishes to ya mate ;-D

besides after a chat with numerous other coaches ! we all agree you have only retired all your teams to look after your CR!
;-)

Posted by SillySod on 2009-06-15 20:42:03
Considering that Petes CR is lower than my CR that seems unlikely :P
Posted by Frankenstein on 2009-06-15 20:44:16
And don't you dare to retire the Legends of Soul, laddie, as their voices, beside your baby's smile, are evidence for the existence of some kind of divinity.

Hallelujah!
Posted by PeteW on 2009-06-15 21:00:07
Hehehe. Thanks guys.

The Legends are staying until their mission to destroy Britnoth's team is completed.

And yes I agree, BB is just a hobby and it should be played just for fun. But like most good things, us human beings have the ability to corrupt it. And that is what I have done with ranked.

Either that or I am just crazy... ;)

Frankenstein - I'll pray for you buddy!

All the best on the arrival of your 2nd kid Pete! Perhaps with your teams retired the mysterious luck drain that has afflicted all of my teams, and indeed, my entire life (I haven't won the jackpot on the lottery yet, so I must be unlucky) will fade away. It's well known that you are not only the luckiest coach on here, but also coaches playing against you appear to suffer from some kind of anti-luck.

Or you might just be a good player, but I'll not readily admit to that ;)

Don't stay away long, and keep your profile updated with news of the little uns' arrival - am sure there are plenty on here wanting to wish you and yours well :D

Cheers!

congratz on the growing family pete!

Praying won't help, Pete, as I'm a pastafarian ;)
Posted by paulhicks on 2009-06-17 23:19:15
Pete,

firstly mate i had no idea your second was on the way so grats on that mate :D

secondly regardless of faith its always good to sit back and take stock of the fact taht bloodbowl can sometimes take over our lives.

however if bloodbowl has become more than it should be for you again (and believe me i understand that) then stopping playing althogether is not the answer imo.

you see if you simply stop and fight to avoid it then:
a) your likely to fail and once youve played one game you may as well play as many as you like ( a bit like quitting drinking and having just 1 beer or dieting and "just having 1 day off this week") and

b) bloodbowl is stil controling you.
you see if you dedicate all your energy to avoiding a thing then that thing is still in charge of you. the true key is to learn self control (im such a hypocrite as im yet to do this#) and to self limit yourself.
setting a limit ("1 game per night then the computer goes off no matter what" to begin with is a good one) might be the way to go.

of corse all this is just my opinion.
TBH i just have a lot of respect for anyone who prioritorises correctly when it comes to family/ gaming

cya on the pitch soon i hope but if not then more happily: see pics of the new one soon i hope :D

Thanks Paul!

For me, deleting my teams helps me to not think about them, because I can't achieve anything! Plus, I still have some admirable goals to achieve:
1.) Maintain highest fouler score in WhiteIsle
2.) Maintain highest casualty causer in WIL
3.) Destroy Britnoth's team.
4.) Maim as many players as possible.
5.) Regularly retire my teams and restart to annoy Purplegoo.
6.) Did I mention fouling?

For me, unlike alcoholism, BloodBowl wasn;t the problem, but my desire for glory was. So I can still play bloodbowl happily without worry, as long as I am doing it in an arena of fun and not glory.
